Chapter 38: Hinting Lei Qian
Yan Wanning, however, didn’t reply to Bai Meiyue as she had already thought quite a lot about her daughter’s grievances. No wonder her daughter cried so wretchedly. Her daughter getting bullied by someone, the company trying to suppress the matter as they were worried that Bai Meiyue would drag them to court for joining hands together with Bai Qingshi.
Even Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan had the same thoughts: why would a company offer such a generous compensation unless they wanted to silence the voices of the victim?
“Yueyue, don’t worry. Even if we are poor, our daughters cannot be bullied. I will deal with this matter; just trust Mom.” Yan Wanning’s eyes couldn’t help but turn red. She had already heard the gist of the matter; her ex-husband tried to send Bai Meiyue to one of his clients. What kind of good things could those old men be? Oh, her poor daughter.
“Mom!” Bai Meiyue was speechless. Though her mother was correct, she didn’t expect that her mother would be able to see things so clearly. She held her mother’s hands and said to her, “Don’t think too much. I and the company’s CEO have always been on good terms. He knew that I was in trouble so he lent me his penthouse.”
The expressions of mother and sons were obviously disbelieving.
How could a little actress be close to the company’s CEO after all?
Bai Meiyue could only smile at them and explain in a calm manner, “What I said was the truth, Mom, brothers. This house was really given to me by my boss. I have worked hard for the company all these years and I have earned a lot of money, enough to buy ten penthouses like these. Even if my boss gives me this house, it is me who will be suffering a loss.”
“Do you really think that your mother is a fool? You cried so hard just now and even when you called on the phone, you were filled with grievance. Don’t try to fool your mother now. I know what kind of virtue that bastard has; he must have done something really harsh for you to cry like that.”
Yan Wanning didn’t trust Bai Meiyue’s words. In her mind, her daughter, who was not raised by her, was suppressed by her father and stepmother heavily and was bullied the second she turned an adult.
Now that she knew that Bai Qinghsi had such designs on her daughter, Yan Wanning was certain that the man must not have treated her daughter nicely and with that stinky mistress of his by his side, she could only imagine how poor Bai Meiyue’s life must have been.
Yan Wanning looked at her daughter, who was trying to stop her and felt even worse. Her daughter must have been tormented by Bai Qingshi and Chu Xia; no wonder she would rather be wronged than make this matter public.
“Alright, alright… I know that you want to give me justice but you still have to wait for the court hearing first. You can’t go and beat up Bai Qingshi when he is locked up in prison, right?”
Bai Meiyue gave up trying to convince her mother; she knew that even if she were to tell her mother that she was not bullied, her mother and brothers would not believe it. Since she had already lied and manipulated them into coming here, then a little more manipulation wouldn’t hurt.
Anyway, Lu Ling would soon be contacting her.
The first stage of the apocalypse was going to start very soon; thus, she only needed to wait till then.
She allowed her mother to serve Lei Qian the tea that she had brought from the village before chasing him out of her house impolitely, “I will see you out, Master Lei.”
“Yueyue, the weather is getting colder. You need to wear a jacket!”
Yan Wanning handed the jacket to her second son, who rushed after Bai Meiyue and handed it to her. Bai Meiyue donned the jacket and walked out in the corridor with Lei Qian and closed the door behind her.
“I—”
“Don’t even think about it.” The reason Bai Meiyue chased Lei Qian out of her house was because she noticed that the man wanted to confess to her mother about their entanglement.
She was already busy with her own things and had no time to bother with him or worry about the matters of a man.
“But—” Lei Qian looked down at Bai Meiyue and said to her, “This matter is not something that you can hide for a long time.”
“Then I will keep it under wraps as long as I can. I know that you feel responsible but you have given me money and even helped my family by bringing them and saving them from getting lost. With this you have done more than enough.”
“Do you really have to draw the line so clearly?” Lei Qian asked with a hoarse voice, which only made Bai Meiyue smile.
“Master Lei, you said it yourself. I am just a small actress riddled with scandals; even if the scandal happened due to you, your family will not accept me. So why should I continue to entangle with you? Isn’t it better to move on and live my own life?”
“But I never had such thoughts as evading responsibility.”
Bai Meiyue shook her head and instead of answering, she said to Lei Qian, “Master Lei, instead of worrying about these matters, I will give you some advice: You need to ask your parents and sister to come back. If you don’t, then I am afraid that you might regret it.”
When Lei Qian heard her words, his face turned sombre and he questioned, “What do you mean by that?”
Bai Meiyue didn’t explain. She simply looked at the man and gave him a look before saying to him in a calm voice, “If you trust me, then just do as I say; I will not harm you.”

Though Bai Meiyue had no idea how Lei Qian lost his family in her past life, she did hear about them getting stuck in Cloud City when the apocalypse broke out. Though Lei Qian’s family somehow managed to survive the tsunami, they were not able to survive the attack of the zombies.
And if she remembered it correctly. The zombies were first seen in the Cloud City due to it being a nuclear power station.
