Chapter 381: Vaccine
Though Mother Bai wanted to start nagging Bai Meiyue, she still held herself back, for she didn’t want to make her daughter upset first thing in the morning. She placed a plate that held four buns in front of Bai Meiyue and said to her, “Eat. I heard from Ah Zhan that you need to go on another hunt. I really wonder why you have to work so hard when we have enough food and water.”

Bai Meiyue pulled the buns towards her and said, “Don’t worry, Mom, we will be fine,” even though her brothers and she had been going on hunts for a while now, Mother Bai was still just as fretful as she was when they went on a hunt for the first time. Of course, as a mother herself, Bai Meiyue understood her mother’s feelings.

“Of course, I know that you will be fine,” Mother Bai huffed. “But how can I be at ease when you all are facing those dangerous monsters outside?” Mother Bai’s ability had gotten better and better as well with the energy that Bai Meiyue released in the house every once and then.

The seeds that were sown an hour ago would be grown at the second hour, while her mother’s abilities had levelled up to the third level; Mother Bai remained unaware of it. Bai Meiyue didn’t relay it either because her mother’s abilities were not useful in a fight. She could only grow vegetables; the last thing she needed was her mother to feel that she was obliged to fight zombies.

Bai Jixuan smiled and hugged his mother’s arm. He said to her, “We know, Mom. But the world is already like this; we cannot sit in the house and eat, right? Don’t worry, I will bring some nice crabs for you this time around.”

When Mother Bai heard the words of her second son, she was really amused. She pinched his cheeks and then said to him, “Don’t. I will be fine if you three come safe and sound.”

A few days ago, Mother Bai told Bai Jixuan that she was missing king crabs. But she only said that casually; Mother Bai never said that she wanted to eat them.

When Bai Meiyue heard that her mother wanted to eat king crabs, she decided to use the barter points that she had in her hands to get some king crabs from the woman who still owed her. She was going to leave a box of them such that her mother could eat them when they were gone.

After they finished eating breakfast, Bai Meiyue went downstairs with her brothers. She ran into Wan Guofu, who was commanding the rest of the team; of course, like always, she didn’t see Yang Chunhua. It seemed like the blow that she received from Dacheng was yet to be eased.

Bai Meiyue sighed when she thought about how such a good woman was ruined by a jerk like that man. However, this was Yang Chunhua’s mess; there was nothing that she could do about it.

Smoothing the oversized shirt such that it wouldn’t stick to her bump, Bai Meiyue walked over to Wan Guofu, who was talking with Jiang Haidai. Though Bai Meiyue was not experienced when it came to love and stuff, she could tell when a man was interested in someone.

And from what she could see, Wan Guofu was rather interested in Jiang Haidai. Of course, as someone who was betrayed by a man, Jiang Haidai didn’t seem to have any interest in Wan Guofu.

She nodded at Wan Guofu when their gazes met, causing the man to flush red.

Soon, they agreed to leave. Bai Meiyue got into the RV with the rest of the team, which included ten nurses, Wan Guofu, Mo He and Yun Chuan, three doctors, as well as her brothers.

The RV was driven by Bai Zhan, as he didn’t dare to leave Bai Meiyue in the hands of anyone else. Compared to others, he would drive the RV much better as he knew that his sister was pregnant. If not for the fact that Bai Meiyue was willing to let them follow her, they would have never allowed her to go outside, especially when her pregnancy was slowly advancing.

While her brother was driving the RV, Bai Meiyue was reading the list that Shen Zhen had handed to her. She could understand what the instruments were for, but she could not understand the special list that Doctor Cui sent to her.

She turned to look at Shen Zhen, who was taking her blood pressure, and said to her, “What does Doctor Cui want to do with these instruments?”

“Didn’t he tell you?” Shen Zhen was surprised when she heard Bai Meiyue’s question, as she thought that Doctor Cui would have already told her. When Bai Meiyue shook her head, Shen Zhen smiled at her and then said, “It’s nothing. Originally, Doctor Cui wanted to give up on making a vaccine for the doomsday, but he changed his mind.”

Shen Zhen had no idea what prompted this sudden change, but Doctor Cui was rather engrossed in the research these days. She had no idea what was going on, but the situation was rather confusing.

When Bai Meiyue heard that Doctor Cui was willing to continue with his research, she was a bit confused.

What prompted this sudden change?

Bai Meiyue was reminded of the things that she had heard in the past. If she was not wrong, then the military base once released a vaccine that had a sixty per cent chance of stopping the doomsday virus from spreading. This vaccine was not fully developed and yet it was pushed forward and sold.

People were terrified of the changes, and even though the chances were only sixty per cent, they were willing to purchase it. If Bai Meiyue was not wrong, then she was certain that this vaccine was what brought the first pot of gold to the military bases.
