Chapter 43: The System dug a trap
Bai Meiyue had been ignoring this notification the entire day as she did not wish to make a decision carelessly.
[Would you like to use the ancient artefact to upgrade the Barter System?]
She read the notification word by word before asking in her mind, “What are the benefits of upgrading the Barter System?”
Don’t blame her for being wary. Though the Barter System was a good thing, it was too good to be true. Bai Meiyue had no desire to be caught in a mess that was similar to taking a loan from a loan shark. If this system was similar to such a messy organisation, then Bai Meiyue didn’t want it; she was quite happy with the current situation!
At first there was no response, which made Bai Meiyue wonder if she was ever going to get a reply but then a mechanical voice dinged in her head and she heard it say,
[There are many benefits for upgrading the Barter System, host.]
[Your current Barter level is Level 1, which means that you can only barter personal belongings or the belongings that are occupied by the other barter hosts.]
[However, if you were to upgrade your barter system, then this limitation will slowly be removed and you will be able to see much better barter requests. For example, if you were to raise your level to level 2, then you would be able to barter goods that are found in the black or thief market.]
[And if you succeed in levelling up to level three, then you can put your own barter request without the limitation that you have currently as a level 1 host and even chat with the rest of the hosts without entering the barter arena. At the third level you can also request the host to help you with their skills. Temporarily. ]
[At the fourth level you can buy livestock, slaves, and many more things that you cannot at the present first to third level.]
[The fifth level allows you to barter in bulk; that is to say that as long as you fulfil a certain request, then you can receive goods in bulk.]
[The last level is where you can use the collected points and barter with the system’s management itself. Many hosts have actually bartered off stars and islands. And in some cases they actually asked for a planet in exchange.]
The more Bai Meiyue listened to the mechanical voice in her head, the brighter her eyes became. A planet? If she could really exchange a planet, then wouldn’t her son be able to live a normal life?
Bai Meiyue suddenly became really excited as if she had been injected with chicken blood. She asked the system, “Then how am I supposed to upgrade the Barter System?”
[By exchanging precious artefacts, gold, or rare and unique objects that could be resold.]
[Once the host collects the desired number of points, she will be able to upgrade the barter system to the next level.]
Bai Meiyue almost immediately understood what the system was trying to tell her. While she could receive barter goods by exchanging goods with the same or lower value with other hosts, she needed to exchange rare goods with the barter system to collect enough points for the next upgrade.
There was no limitation when she was bartering with the system.
She thought about it a little and then exchanged the artefacts that she had received from the warehouse.
[Thank you for your patronage.]
[The cost of Artefact Bartered: Hundred million yuan.]
[Collected points: ten thousand.]
[Would you like to upgrade the system?]
Bai Meiyue: “…”
Though Bai Meiyue had a feeling that she had been ripped off, she still tapped on the yes button.
[Thank you, host.]
[The Barter System has been upgraded to level 2 and now you can see barter requests from the black marketeers.]
[Points required for the next upgrade: 100,000]
Bai Meiyue: “…”

She was so angry after seeing the last notification that she turned off the system and rolled into bed. However, even after doing so, she was not calm enough and started hitting the pillow on which she was sleeping.
One hundred thousand points? She sold a hundred million artefacts and gained only ten thousand points. By the time she gained that many points, her son would be in his thirties, and she would be a grandmother!
Sure enough, that Barter System had dug a trap for her. Now that the temptation of exchanging a planet was in front of her, Bai Meiyue couldn’t even ignore it!
Damn that system!
While she had to worry about how to collect points, another worry was added to her list when Bai Meiyue woke up the next day. Her mother and brothers looked at her as if she were on her last breath and they were already arranging for her funeral. For the next few days Bai Meiyue felt like she was participating in a badly arranged funeral.
Throughout the entire week, their faces were covered with gloomy clouds while her brothers went in and out of the house looking for clues to sue Chen Yuya.
Yan Wanning, on the other hand, cooked all kinds of delicacies as if wishing to wash off the bad taste of the bad events that happened in Bai Meiyue’s life a few weeks ago.
While they were looking for clues, Fang Qing found out that the Bai family had sold their house and lands and panicked. She started calling Bai Zhan wanting to know where he was hiding but unfortunately for her, the one who picked up the call was Bai Meiyue.
So, when Fang Qing started scolding Bai Zhan, Bai Meiyue coldly told her that if she did not want her entire family to be thrown in prison for scheming and forcing a man, she better restrain herself.
Of course, Fang Qing did not believe Bai Meiyue’s words, as she didn’t believe that there was a law that protected men.
In response, Bai Meiyue simply sneered and told her to try and make trouble before blocking her number.
Time continued to flow like a running stream, and the typhoon that marked the start of the apocalypse started to get closer and closer. Rain started to lash against the land, leading the entire city to be filled with gloom as weeks passed by without the sight of the sun.
One morning when Bai Meiyue returned after purchasing the winter clothes, jackets, and suits, she found her mother waiting for her in the dining area with a tentative look on her face.
Seeing the look on her mother’s face, Bai Meiyue felt her heart jump but she still pretended to be calm and walked over, “Mom, whats the matter?”
