Chapter 44: Lei Qian needs to take responsibility

Yan Wanning flinched; she didn’t think that she would be busted so easily. She sighed and said to Bai Meiyue, “Come here and sit down; I have cooked some nourishing porridge for you with soymilk.”

Though Bai Meiyue knew that her mother wanted to say something else, she still walked over to the table and sat down obediently. Yan Wanning served her a bowl of porridge before sitting opposite Bai Meiyue. She interlocked her fingers on top of the table before beginning to speak in a casual voice, “Your brothers have been looking around for clues for a while now, Yueyue.”

Yan Wanning didn’t want to come out as someone who was accusing or questioning her daughter. She calmly looked at Bai Meiyue and tentatively said to her, “And they were able to find something through the grapevine of the company where you worked. This house, it wasn’t given to you by the company but you purchased it with the money that the man who took advantage of you gave you as compensation, right?”

Bai Meiyue was indeed clever with her words and she had indeed hidden a lot of things from her mother and two brothers but it was just as Lei Qian said, there was no fire that could be buried with paper.

The company employees knew the truth so even if Lu Ling arranged for the assistants to lie to Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan, the workers wouldn’t. After all, they all liked to gossip about others and condemn those who were higher than them.

So, it was not difficult for the two brothers to find the ins and outs of the matter.

And not only did they find out that Bai Meiyue purchased this house with the money that she had received as compensation, they also found out who gave the compensation to her.

“It was Ah Qian who gave it to you, right?” Yan Wanning asked without beating around the bush.

Bai Meiyue paused in her actions of eating porridge; she looked up and asked with a frown, “Who are you talking about?”

“Don’t try to lie to me, Meiyue!” Yan Wanning slapped her hands on the table. She understood the concern of her daughter; after all, Lei Qian was not a simple man. But that doesn’t give him the right to sleep with her daughter and take advantage of her youth like this before sending her packing with just a mere monetary compensation.

She drew in a breath and said to Bai Meiyue, “Your brothers and I are going to talk with Ah Qian.”

Bai Meiyue licked her lips uneasily; she had no desire to keep Lei Qian in her life. That man was meant for great things, whether before or after the apocalypse; if he stayed with her and Bai Cai, then she was worried that their lives would always be in danger.

“Mom, there is no need for you to talk with him. This matter is not his fault and he had already compensated me enough—”

“Don’t even talk about yourself like that.” Yan Wanning’s eyes turned red when she saw how casually her daughter was talking about such a horrendous incident. “You are not a low-class hooker who can be bought with money. And if Ah Qian thinks like that, then he has another thing coming for him.”

Yan Wanning was like a momma bear who was about to fight to the death for her cub. Bai Meiyue didn’t even need to use her toes to know what kind of thoughts must be going through her mother’s mind right now. Bai Meiyue was certain that all the brownie points that Lei Qian earned by helping her mother and brothers last time were now down the slump.

Indeed, Yan Wanning was no longer as optimistic about Lei Qian but what could she do? That man had taken advantage of her daughter so certainly he had to take responsibility for her daughter.

As for this house, even though it was a house that she and her sons could never even think of, they were going to return it. Her daughter’s virtue was not something that could be purchased through such a thing.

“Mom is right, Yueyue,” Bai Jixuan had been working on the empty balcony and helping Bai Meiyue fix the greenhouse, which needed to be built on the empty space. He would also look at her with an expression that was full of guilt and they had caught him trying to talk to their mother many times! If not for Bai Meiyue stopping him, they would have long found out about this mess!

They understood their sister’s concerns as well but the two brothers grew up with their mother and they had seen how hard life was for their mother after she was abandoned by her father.

The two brothers couldn’t watch their sister jump in the same fiery pit as well, right?

And from the fact that Lei Qian came to offer Bai Meiyue to work in his friend’s company, it could be seen that the man was not as irresponsible as they took him as.

If only they knew the truth earlier, then they would have long talked about whether Lei Qian wanted to take responsibility for their sister or not. Of course evading the responsibility was not an option.

That man would either marry their sister (daughter) willingly or they would make him!
