Chapter 47: Under Lockdown
On the other side, Lei Qian was staring at the black sky with a gloomy look on his face. He couldn’t help but recall the warning that Bai Meiyue had given to him and his worries started to increase even more. Was there something wrong? Was something going to happen? And did Bai Meiyue know something?
He had a lot of questions that he wanted to ask but as Lei Qian raised his phone, he realised that he had no chance to contact Bai Meiyue. He had no idea what was going on in Cloud City, but the second he entered the boundaries of this land, the network was cut off, making it impossible for him to contact anyone.
In fact, if not for the fact that he was from the Lei family, Lei Qian was certain that he wouldn’t have been able to enter the city at all. As the security around this city had suddenly strengthened! He knew that something was wrong but Lei Qian couldn’t put his finger on it.
‘Never mind, I will just have to wait until I can see Yueyue again,’ thought Lei Qian.
“Master Lei, we have brought the rations that you asked us to.”
Lei Qian had taken Bai Meiyue’s last message seriously when she had asked him to stock up on resources. Thus, he had asked his assistant to buy as much food as possible and he had done the same thing at the cloud city as well.
However—
Lei Qian looked at the pitiful amount of rations that the two bodyguards had brought and frowned. He asked, “Is this all?”
“This is all we could find, Master Lei,” replied one of the bodyguards uneasily.
When Lei Qian heard the response of the two guards, his expression turned grim. Though the rain had been continuing for more than two weeks, he didn’t think that the situation would turn dire in just a matter of a few weeks!
While he was worrying about his next step, a plump girl came to stop next to him and said to Lei Qian, “There is no need to worry, Brother. This is just a matter of a few days. Once the rain stops, everything will go back to normal.”
Lei Yan didn’t take this rain seriously. After all, even though the rain was going on a bit longer, other than the city flooding, what could be the worst-case scenario? They had enough ration to survive flooding.
“It will be better if you do not speak,” Lei Qian snapped as he glared at his sister. “I told you to stay quietly at home but no! You just had to come here and cause trouble for me and you even dragged our parents! Lei Yan, how long are you going to be so immature? Can you listen to me for once? Now because of your selfish actions, we are all trapped in this city for days.”
“Just because I am here to help you out, you shouldn’t be so lax! Have you thought about what if this city gets flooded? What will we do then? Do you think we can survive on this little ration?”
Lei Yan lowered her head guiltily. After all, she had indeed acted a bit rashly by going against her brother. Even though her brother told her to not go anywhere, she did not listen to him and dragged her parents to play. Now that she was caught in trouble, she couldn’t do anything and could only wait for her brother to come and rescue her.
“Alright, there is no need to scold your sister,” Mother Lei didn’t want the two siblings to fight; thus, she stepped between the two before saying to them, “I know that you are upset but your sister didn’t know anything and she is right. Isn’t it just a bit of rain?”
Mother Lei could not understand why her son was getting so agitated over such a small thing?
Father Lei didn’t say anything. As he knew his son better than his wife and daughter, if Lei Qian was panicking, then there was obviously something wrong with the current situation!
“Mom,” Lei Qian heaved a heavy sigh. He turned around and looked at his mother before saying to her, “Do you really think that it’s just a simple matter of extra heavy rain? The entire city is under lockdown! If I hadn’t used all the connections that I had, you all would still be trapped in this place.”
Thinking of this, Lei Qian was thankful to Bai Meiyue, who suggested him to go and look for his family. Unlike his father, when he was young, he joined the military under the orders of his grandpa because he looked too much like a girl.
Thus, Lei Qian had some connections in the military and it was all thanks to Chief Xu that he was able to get past the checkpoints.
If he hadn’t travelled here, then with his father’s connections, his family would have never been able to get out of this city.
When Mother Lei heard that the entire city was under lockdown, her expression changed, and she suddenly became worried. She asked her son, “But why—what’s going on?”
Why did the city suddenly go under lockdown?
“I have no idea,” Lei Qian could only shake his head and offer a sigh to his parents and sister. “However, since we don’t know anything, we might as well take advantage of the fact that the situation hasn’t turned too bad and get out of here.”
He then turned to look at Lei Yan before sneering, “If you dare run away from home once again, I will break your legs. I will see how you will leave the house with your legs broken in half.”
Lei Yan knew that her brother was not joking with her and nodded seriously; she no longer dared to make a peep and got into the vehicle obediently without making any more fuss.
Mother Lei and Father Lei also got in the car that seemed to have braved all kinds of storms and didn’t question Lei Qian about why he was in such a hurry.
However, just as they slid inside the car and the bodyguards were about to start the engine —
