Chapter 54: Helping someone in need

“It has only been raining for a few weeks; why is everyone going crazy like this?” Bai Meiyue heard someone say behind her and her lips twitched slightly. She didn’t know whether it was because these people were just worried or their human senses were tingling.

After all, humans were quite miraculous creatures; if they were not, then how could they awaken into supernatural beings and adapt to the apocalypse? Maybe these people sensed that something was wrong even though they had no idea what was going to happen in a few days.

Bai Meiyue didn’t join in the gossip and quickly rushed inside the supermarket when it was her turn and started grabbing whatever she could and started putting it in her shopping cart.

“What the fuck? How can a dozen eggs cost two hundred yuan? Are you trying to rob us?”

“Look at this! A single ear of corn is being sold for fifty yuan; these people are out of their minds.”

“A bag of rice is being sold for one thousand yuan? Are they crazy?”

“Get lost! Look at the prices of the water bottles. It’s actually a hundred yuan per bottle.”

“Mom! Mom! Where are you?”

All kinds of curses and cries of children echoed in the supermarket, but Bai Meiyue didn’t pay attention. Despite the prices of the goods, she picked them up and placed them all in the shopping cart.

What a joke. In the apocalyptic world, money would become nothing but pieces of paper. What would she do by keeping these useless bits of paper?

“Why are you grabbing these packets of rice noodles? Can’t you see that I have already put them in the shopping cart?”

Hearing the familiar voice, Bai Meiyue turned to look behind her and was surprised to see that it was none other than Meng Suisui and her brother, Meng Qibao.

Beside them was another young woman, who shared the same features with the two siblings.

“What do you mean?” Bai Meiyue heard the old woman whose hand was being held by Meng Suisui. “Let go of my hand! How can you be so rude!? Look at this, the young ones are bullying the old. Oh my hand! It’s going to be broken! I just took it because I can’t reach the counter. How can you bully an old woman like this? Can’t you let this old woman off? It’s not like I committed a sin?”

Meng Suisui had never seen such a thing before; her face turned red and she tried to quibble, “How—how can you lie like that? I didn’t even use that much force.”

The old woman was about to say something else but Bai Meiyue walked over and twisted her arm before snatching the rice noodle packets that she had snatched from Meng Suisui.

“Owww! Oww!!” The old woman didn’t expect that someone would really twist her arm and her expression turned terrified.

“Try to find your match next time, old lady,” Bai Meiyue sneered as she pushed the woman away. “You dare make a fuss the next time in front of me, I will really break that arm of yours.”

She then turned to look at Meng Suisui and said to her, “This is not the time to make reasonable demands; just snatch whatever you can and run.”

After she finished speaking, she walked away and then snatched the cabbage heads that were sitting on the aisle.

She only helped Meng Suisui because that woman had once helped her as well. However, she was not going to protect Meng Suisui.

Meng Suisui looked at Bai Meiyue while standing in the same spot before gritting her teeth and saying to her brother and cousin.

“What are you looking at? Just grab whatever you can!” As she spoke, she even snatched the vegetables and eggs that were placed in the shopping cart of the old woman.

Meng Qibao followed the order of his sister but Meng Anzhi remained put; she found such acts to be really despicable and disgusting.

“Hey! That’s mine!” The old woman tried to snatch the things back but Meng Qibao snickered, “Where is the proof, old lady?”

He and his sister brushed past the fuming old lady, not forgetting to snatch the last bags of vermicelli and dumplings off the aisle.

Meng Anzhi followed the two of them, still looking disgruntled with what her cousins had done.

Was there a need to follow the advice of a fallen actress?

Though Bai Meiyue had cleared her name, Meng Anzhi, who was Su Hu’s fan, did not believe it. She, like many brain-dead fans, thought that Su Hu was still innocent and it was Bai Meiyue who sold her body and later lied that it was Su Hu who schemed against her.

When Meng Suisui and her brother stepped out of the supermarket, they found Bai Meiyue walking ahead of them.

“Miss Bai!” Meng Suisui called out to Bai Meiyue, who turned to look at her.

While Meng Qibao simply stood next to Meng Suisui and eyed Bai Meiyue warily and curiously. But Meng Anzhi simply glanced at Bai Meiyue as if she were looking at a lowlife and then turned her head to one side before saying to her cousin, “I will be waiting for you in the car, Sister Suisui.”

She neither greeted nor acknowledged Bai Meiyue as if it would be enough to insult her.

Meng Suisui became embarrassed when she saw Meng Anzhi act in such a way but she didn’t say anything. She was worried that Meng Anzhi would say something more to offend Bai Meiyue.

She had seen what Bai Meiyue could do when she was furious; thus, she silently agreed with Meng Anzhi, who walked away. However, before leaving, Meng Anzhi didn’t forget to glare at Bai Meiyue.

Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes without giving face to Meng Anzhi before ignoring her. She then turned to look at Meng Suisui before saying, “Is there something that you wanted to say?”

Her voice was exceptionally cold, which made Meng Suisui even more embarrassed and she explained in a low voice, “Please don’t mind my cousin, Miss Bai. She is a hardcore fan of Mister Su. Thats why—”
