Once she finished sending the message, Bai Meiyue sneered and picked up the bowl of tea eggs. Though she didn’t know who this Zhao Yulan was, she knew that after being insulted like this, this woman would not sit still.

And once she came looking for her, heh. It would save her another trip to kill this bitch.

Bai Meiyue turned off her mobile phone and then walked out of the penthouse before walking over to the other end of the corridor. The top floor of the building was made in a triangular shape, with the top floor of each building being connected with two long corridors.

Only those who had access to the top floor could use these corridors.

But if the residents of the top floor wanted the corridor to be off-limits, then they could easily turn on the do not disturb option. As for how helpful this system might be when the apocalypse begins—

She walked to the other end of the corridor and rang the doorbell of the metal door that separated the main door of the penthouse from the common corridor.

The door opened after three minutes just as Bai Meiyue was about to turn around and leave.

The one who opened the door was a really cute girl who seemed to be in middle school.

However, there were traces of wild glint in her eyes, which proved that the little girl had gone through a life-and-death situation.

“Who are you?” Lei Yan asked as she looked at the woman warily; this was not the first time a woman had come to look for her brother.

Bai Meiyue calmly handed the bowl of tea eggs that she was holding in her hands to Lei Yan before replying, “I am Bai Meiyue. I live in the penthouse number 5003. You can say that I am Master Lei’s neighbour.”

After speaking, she was about to turn around and leave when —

“Assistant Lu! I caught her!” Lei Yan dumped the bowl on the side of the corridor and then caught hold of Bai Meiyue’s wrist as if she was afraid that Bai Meiyue would run away.

Before she could even ask what was going on, Lu Yu came running out of the penthouse. He took one look at Bai Meiyue and his tensed face relaxed in the blink of an eye.

“Thank goodness, Miss Bai! I am glad that you came here.”

“Assistant Lu? What is the matter?” Bai Meiyue swallowed her original words back down her throat and questioned, “Why are you looking for me?”

Don’t tell her that Lei Qian was really dying and these people wanted to get the money back from her? She had no money to repay!

“It’s Master Lei,” Lu Yu’s eyes turned red as he said to Bai Meiyue, “I—I don’t know what happened to him but he had been unconscious for more than seventeen hours and his fever was really high. We took him to the doctors but they couldn’t tell what was wrong with him and just said that it was flu but how can someone stay unconscious for so long if it was just flu?”

Bai Meiyue arched her brow when she heard Lu Yu say that Lei Qian was unconscious and was burning with a high fever. She questioned, “Was he bitten by the mutated rats?”

Lu Yu had no answer to this; he turned to look at Lei Yan, whose face turned pale and she nodded. “Yes, Brother Qian was bitten when he tried to save our mother from those monsters.”

Her eyes turned red when she thought about how her brother didn’t think twice before jumping in between the mutated rat and their mother when that thing attacked their car, causing the door of the car to open and Mother Lei to fall out.

She raised her head and looked at Bai Meiyue before asking, “Will Brother Qian be fine?” She instinctively trusted Bai Meiyue because it was all due to Bai Meiyue’s advice that they were able to escape that city.

Those mutated rats were indeed a pain in their bottom, with their bodies being so strong that even bullets couldn’t penetrate their flesh. If Bai Meiyue had not told them that the heads of the mutated rats were their weakest spots, Lei Yan was certain that she and her family would have died in Cloud City!

“Well, if he was bitten by those mutated rats, then you need to keep him in a separate room until 24 hours are up. Within these 24 hours, your brother will either turn into a creature similar to those rats, that is to say, he will turn into a zombie or if he doesn’t change after 24 hours, it means that your brother has quite a resistance and will to live.”

“The virus those rats were carrying in their bodies is quite strong and unique; in short, we can’t do anything regarding this matter. It will depend on your brother and his immunity. If his body is strong, then his immune system will be able to purify and deal with the virus, but if his body is weak, then I am afraid that he will turn into a zombie.”

Bai Meiyue had no idea how Lei Qian awakened in the apocalyptic world, whether he awakened like everyone else when he was pushed into a corner or after being bitten by a zombie.

Thus, she could not tell Lei Yan for sure whether Lei Qian would be alright.

“Z—zombie?” Lei Yan stammered. “You mean to say that my brother will turn into those things that we only see in the movies? How—how is that possible? There is no way—”

“Do you really think so?” Bai Meiyue asked with a curl of her lips. “Didn’t you already see zombie rats roaming around the cloud city? If I am not wrong, they might have already arrived in our city, right?”
