Chapter 62: first lesson

Bai Meiyue was really annoyed; if Bai Cai hadn’t made a fuss, then she would have broken through another level of cultivation but now that her son was restless, Bai Meiyue could no longer keep her eyes open and needed to take a nap. So, she could only dress herself up and head to her bedroom.

Soon a week passed by; the rain, which was gradually decreasing, suddenly turned around and became heavier again. It showed no signs of stopping. It rained as if the sky had been torn apart and the endless rain was about to swallow everything whole.

In just a week, the water, which was already up to a person’s waist level, had tripled, and now no one could stop outside unless they had a boat, as many of the areas were severely flooded.

Soon the water supply of the apartment building was also cut off without any warning and the residents could only drink the stagnant water that was flooding the street.

Fortunately, Bai Meiyue was prepared for this; she filled the container that she had bought earlier with clean water, which solved the problem. She also asked her brother to fix the generator for the time being until the sun was out. Once the rain stopped, she was going to fix the solar panels.

It was a good thing that Bai Meiyue had already made preparations because after the water supply, it was the electricity that was cut off in a few days time, leaving the entire apartment building in darkness, with only a few apartments lit up.

Bai Meiyue didn’t receive any further news about Lei Qian, which meant that he was still unconscious.

Fortunately, Lei Yan and Lu Yu had taken her warnings seriously and had stocked up as much as possible. Thus they had enough gasoline for the time being to run a generator.

Bai Meiyue wanted to ask about Lei Qian’s condition but she didn’t want to disrupt the Lei family’s peace when they were already troubled enough as it was.

“What’s going on?” Bai Jixuan looked at the sky that was showing no signs of stopping. He and his brother planned to return to the village and buy another piece of land after taking a loan from the bank. But with the continuous rain, what was he going to do?

Bai Zhan was also worried. But compared to Bai Jixuan, his worries were different. The rain was showing no signs of stopping and if this went on, how would they survive?

Mother Bai looked up from the sweater that she was knitting and sighed. She remarked, “I have never seen rain as bad as this one. I heard from the neighbours downstairs that the water and electricity were cut off and the officials didn’t even announce when the supplies would be turned on. If I had known then, I would have stocked more water and gasoline.”

Bai Meiyue’s lips twitched when she heard the words of her mother. She wanted to confess that she had enough supplies but Bai Meiyue stopped herself; she wanted her mother and brothers to know and face the despair of not having enough. If she were to tell them that she had enough supplies to last for a lifetime, wouldn’t they grow complacent?

She trusted her two older brothers and mother but Bai Meiyue didn’t trust their kindness. Now that the entire city had flooded, she was sure that Fang Qing must have come to the city with her family to hide from the flood and to look for her brothers.

Knowing that woman, Bai Meiyue knew that Fang Qing wouldn’t sit still after she found out that the land and house of the village were sold off.

In her past life, Fang Qing came to the city as well. However, she didn’t come to the city to look for her brothers but her. Bai Meiyue didn’t know where Fang Qing ran into Boss Shu, who was a local thug.

And in exchange for getting supplied, Fang Qing actually sold her, Bai Meiyue, to Boss Shu. In her eyes, Bai Meiyue was a ruined woman and thus had no rights to be picky. Since Boss Shu was willing to take her as his ‘wife,’ Bai Meiyue should be really pleased!

Bai Meiyue still remembered how much trouble Boss Shu and Fang Qing caused her when she was pregnant with Bai Cai. Fang Qing even tried to forcefully abort the child as she was worried that Boss Shu would blame her and ask for supplies that she had already used!

A cold glint flashed in her eyes when Bai Meiyue recalled the past. Of course, she had a separate plan to deal with Fang Qing.

But if her elder brother was manipulated by that woman into giving supplies, then Bai Meiyue was afraid that she would not be able to stop him! Because she owned Bai Zhan too much, including his life.

Thus, it was better to create the illusion that they did not have enough for themselves and stop Bai Zhan from getting soft-hearted while dealing with Fang Qing.

While the Bai family was worried about the current situation, the doorbell rang.

“I will see who it is.” Bai Meiyue knew that in the current situation, only Lei Yan or Lu Yu could ring her doorbell and thus went to open the door. Sure enough, when she opened the door, she saw Lei Yan standing outside.

“What’s the matter?” she asked when she saw that Lei Yan was looking at her worriedly.

Lei Yan spoke quickly, “I just went downstairs with Brother Yu; we have an inflatable boat and wanted to try to get more supplies but then we ran into the property manager of the community.”

“It seems like the ground and the first floor have been flooded and the residents who live there have nowhere to go. Manager Ni is bringing them up, hoping that the people who live on the top floors will let these residents stay with them.” She paused and added, “It seems like he also allowed a few refugees to stay here who came swimming here. I heard many of them were bitten by dogs.”
