Chapter 68: White lotus

At 9 pm, Lei Yan came to a stop in front of the penthouse that belonged to the Bai family. Behind her were Lu Yu and Lu Yin; though Lei Yan said that she was going to be fine, the two siblings wanted to follow her. Well, Lu Yu genuinely wanted to protect and as for Lu Yin, Lei Yan knew that this girl was only following her to present a good image in front of her parents.

As for why? Haha, she might be young but she could see through Lei Yan’s intentions right away. This young woman liked her brother and wanted to use her as a stepping stone to please her brother and parents. As if she were that easy to fool!

Compared to Lu Yin, Lei Yan liked Sister Bai more.

When Bai Meiyue opened the door, she saw Lei Yan and two other people standing behind her. At first she frowned but before she could say anything more, Lei Yan stepped forward and handed her the antique vase that she had brought with her.

“Sister Bai, this is for you.”

When she heard the notification, Bai Meiyue’s eyes lit up and she decided to ignore the two extra baggage before saying to Lei Yan, “Thank you.”

She took the vase and then placed it inside the house. When Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan saw that their sister had accepted a broken vase, they were a bit confused. Why was she taking such things in exchange? Shouldn’t she ask these people to share half of their supplies?

Though the two brothers were confused, they did not say anything and let their sister do what she wanted. Anyway, it was Bai Meiyue who had the boat, and she was the one who was in charge of dealing with this matter, so they might as well leave this matter in her hands.

The six of them walked downstairs as the elevator of the building was no longer working. They didn’t see anyone; most likely these people took advantage of someone and took over their house.

The water had slowly accumulated to the fifth floor and it was yet to be known if this water was going to go down or not.

Bai Meiyue used the backpack that she had brought with her and used it as a cover to take out the extra raincoats and handed it to Lei Yan and the other two people.

She said to them, “You can no longer purchase medicine at the shops so be careful and don’t catch a cold. If you get caught in rain, then it will be problematic.”

“Thank you.” Lei Yan took the raincoats and handed them to Lu Yu and his sister. Sure enough, it was Bai Meiyue who was much wiser; she even thought of such a thing and here they thought that as long as they were quick enough, nothing would go wrong.

Once they finished wearing the raincoats, Bai Meiyue turned to look at Lei Yan and asked, “Where do you want to go first?”

“To the closest mall, Sister Bai,” This was their first outing and Lei Yan didn’t want to take too big of a risk. She had no idea whether those mutated rats were hiding in the water or if they were already hibernating. She might as well take a short trip to understand the current situation and be done with it.

If the conditions outside were alright, then she would continue going out and hunting for supplies. If not, then she would have to think of a way to drag Bai Meiyue with her.

Bai Meiyue nodded and started to deal with the inflatable rubber boat. However, just as she finished setting the boat, someone behind her cleared their throat.

“Are you guys going outside? If so, can you bring us with you?”

Bai Meiyue’s eyes turned cold as she turned to look at the person behind her. It was a husband-and-wife pair who were looking at the rubber boat with a greedy look in their eyes. Though the two of them hid their intentions quite well, Bai Meiyue was sharp enough to notice what was going on in there. She sneered and then turned to look away.

She did not want to bother with people like them who wrapped their murderous intentions in a kind smile.

However, Lu Yin, who stood next to her brother, raised her head and looked at the couple.

As if realising that someone was willing to pay attention to them, the husband smiled in an awkward manner and then said to Lu Yin, “My wife is pregnant, and I am worried that she will not have enough to eat. Can you please be kind and help us a little?”

When Bai Meiyue heard his words, she turned around and looked at the man before saying, “Young man, why are you telling us about this? If your wife is pregnant, then as her husband, it’s your responsibility to take care of her health. As you can see, we are six people, and we only have one boat. Even if we want to help you, there is little to nothing that we can do as we have no space.”

Bai Meiyue knew that the woman being pregnant was a lie after all; in the apocalypse, she had seen such a thing a bunch of times. Lie about being pregnant and then steal the supplies of those who took pity on them. She was not that stupid.

Unfortunately for her, there was someone who was just that stupid!

Lu Yin turned to look at Bai Meiyue and then said to her with some slight annoyance, “Miss Bai, aren’t you being too harsh?”

Bai Meiyue paused and turned to look at the woman who was questioning her with an accusatory tone and turned to look at her. She blinked her eyes and smiled at the young girl before remarking, “I don’t think that I am being too harsh, Miss Lu. If anything, I am looking out for us.”

However, Lu Yin’s expression, which was filled with disbelief and slight contempt, showed that she didn’t believe a thing that Bai Meiyue was saying.
