Chapter 69: Don’t tell me what to do
Lu Yin raised her chin and then spoke in a sweet yet derisive voice, “Miss Bai, I know that you are trying to look out for us, but there is no need for you to be this cruel, right? I mean, this poor man’s wife is pregnant and he just needs a little help from us. We can adjust a little; isn’t that fine?”
When Bai Meiyue heard Lu Yin’s words, her lips curled up in a mocking smile. Dear, dear, who would have thought that the ace assistant’s sister would be a green tea? She was so profound in the art of spilling tea that Bai Meiyue was afraid that she would choke on the green tea.
She sighed and then turned to look at Lu Yin.
“First of all, Miss Lu. This boat belongs to me and my family. Who gets on it and who doesn’t is up to me and not you, alright? If you want to help others, then you are free to find an inflatable rubber boat and use it as a ferry to help others.” Bai Meiyue was not related to Lei Qian or Lu Yu. Nor was she inclined to be dependent on these two men; thus, she had no desire to suck up to this spoiled princess who was yet to wake up from her daydreams.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, Lu Yin’s face turned red with embarrassment.
“You—”
“Secondly, if you are coming with us just because you want to help others, then I think you and your brothers do not need to come with us at all.” Bai Meiyue smiled coldly. “At present, every family is about to run out of their supplies and have no choice but to be careful with their own supplies. Do you think that we have enough time and resources to care for others? No. Since you have the resources, then you might as well stay here.”
“Sister Bai!” Lei Yan immediately spoke up when she realised that the situation was turning bad. She glared at Lu Yin before turning to look at Bai Meiyue and said to her politely, “Please don’t bother with her. She has always been like this—my family and hers are running out of supplies; of course we don’t have the time and resources to care about others.”
As she finished speaking to Bai Meiyue, Lei Yan turned to look at the couple standing at the top of the stairs and snapped, “And you! You are the one who got your wife pregnant, so you might as well think of a way to solve it! Did you ask anyone before getting your wife pregnant?”
The couple: “…”
Lei Yan felt better after scolding the couple and turned to look at Lu Yin before sneering down at her, “Lu Yin, my brother and parents are not here, so there is no need for you to play this role of a sweet and kind girl, alright? Just tone it down a little.”
Lu Yin’s face turned even redder, and she turned to look at her brother, who simply sighed and said to her, “Alright, Yinyin. Be patient and nice, okay?”
Though Lu Yu was also annoyed with what Lu Yin had said and done, she was his only family member, and there was nothing he could do to her.
Seeing that even her brother was not supporting her, Lu Yin’s face turned pale and her eyes couldn’t help but turn watery. She looked frail with a hint of resilience.
However, unfortunately for her, the people in front of her were not her school friends. No one cared for her and got on the inflatable boat.
Lu Yin saw that no one was paying attention to her and stomped her feet before getting into the boat as well. After all, she also needed to buy some products for her personal hygiene and couldn’t stay back.
When the couple saw that their group had really rowed out of the building, their expressions changed.
“Ah damn! I knew I should have just snatched the boat. You stupid woman, why did you stop me?”
“How was I supposed to know that the woman would be so ruthless? We are both women but she is so cold towards others. No wonder she was abandoned by her family like that; she deserves it.”
Bai Meiyue didn’t hear the curses of the couple, but even if she did hear them, she wouldn’t have bothered. At times like these, it was more important to survive than have a good reputation.
Because of the power outage, the entire city was drowned in darkness. Bai Zhan could barely see what was in front of him with the waterproof torch tied in front of the boat.
The raindrops continued to fall on the surface of the water, causing ripples to form. Sometimes the half-eaten carcass of the animals would brush past their boats and both Lei Yan and Lu Yin would yelp in fear.
Lei Yan was still better as she bit her lip and tried to suppress the fear in her heart but that was until she saw a corpse floating on the surface.
She caught hold of Bai Meiyue’s arm and whispered, “Sister Bai, its terrifying. People—people are really dying.”
Bai Meiyue looked at the corpse that had half of its neck bitten off and her eyes flashed. Sooner or later this corpse would either turn into a zombie or stay the same; no one could be sure about the outcome.
However, there was nothing that she could do about it. If she was alone, she would have thrown a bomb at the corpse and watched it burn, but if she did the same at that moment, she was worried that the people in the boat would be startled.
Take it slowly. She needed to give little doses one at a time.
“You don’t need to look at it if you are scared,” Bai Meiyue said to Lei Yan but she offered no words of comfort. After all, this kind of sight was only going to increase from now on. “You can close your eyes and hold my hand if you are scared.”
Lei Yan took the offer at once and closed her eyes before shuffling close to Bai Meiyue. She really could not take such sights!
