Chapter 72: King of Thieves

Tong Huan heaved a sigh of relief and clutched the bag of the inflatable boat from Bai Meiyue. She bowed ninety degrees and thanked Bai Meiyue, “Thank you for helping me, Miss. I am Tong Huan; if we meet again, I promise that I will repay you for this boat.”

After she finished speaking, she turned on her feet and walked out of the jewellery shop. There was no fear on her face, as Tong Huan knew that with the current condition, even if everything was to return to normal, her boss couldn’t blame her.

The entire city was in a state of danger and everyone was fleeing for their lives, while the malls and supermarkets were the first targets of the fugitives and those who were on the run. Who cared if the shop was robbed?

“Are you the one who sold the jade hairpin the last time?”

The man didn’t greet Bai Meiyue and instead went straight to the point. He took out the pipe from his mouth and then exhaled heavily before saying to Bai Meiyue, “I would like to buy some jade from you and in exchange, you can ask for what you want. As long as I have it in stock, I promise that I will fulfil the barter.”

“Your stock?” Bai Meiyue narrowed her eyes as she felt that this barter was a bit more suspicious than the rest.

“Hey, there is no need for you to look at me like that,” the man raised his hands in the air. “I am harmless. I might look like this but I don’t mean any harm. And by stock, I mean—I am the leader of the black market. Unlike the low-ranking ones, I can use my entire stock to barter. Since you have accepted my barter, there must be something that you want from my dimension, right?”

Bai Meiyue had to admit that this man was really smart. Even though she didn’t say anything, he was able to deduce so much. She nodded and replied, “I want some safety pods, one that can protect someone through a tsunami or earthquake. Of course, if the pods are in good condition, I will give you a good-quality jade.”

It was a good thing that she had picked up so many pieces of jade just now. Who would have thought that they would come in handy so soon? Of course, she was not foolish enough to show her cards from the start. She would first see if the pods were worth it or not and only then would she exchange the jade with this man.

King of Thieves arched his brow when he heard Bai Meiyue’s response. He noticed how Bai Meiyue seemed to be guiding the conversation; from her tone, it was clear if he didn’t bring out decent safety pods, then the quality of jade would certainly match the quality of the pods.

He chuckled and clapped his hands before saying to Bai Meiyue, “Don’t worry, Miss. The Barter exchange system would certainly not let me cheat you even if I wanted to.”

With that said, he took out a small package from his space ring. The pack carried small oval-shaped toys that seemed completely useless. That was until the man picked out one at random and pressed the button underneath it.

Boom!

The oval-shaped toy turned bigger and bigger until it could fit a person and then Bai Meiyue heard the man say, “Finest safety pods, only used three times.” He raised three fingers and patted the titanium structure with his hand. “I stole them from a rich man who was thinking of buying the latest safety pods but don’t worry. That’s because he wanted to prepare for a meteor shower; unless something similar is happening in your world, I don’t think that you would need the latest model.”

He interlocked his fingers on the table and said to Bai Meiyue, “Of course, you can test the remaining pods as well; they have all the features that need to be used when in a —”

He was still speaking when Bai Meiyue snatched the bag from the table and started pressing the buttons.

“What are you doing?” the man questioned, looking stumped.

“Checking.”
