Chapter 87: A Deal to get new supplies
Bai Meiyue turned on her feet and bolted right out of the hospital. Now that the patients inside had turned into zombies, she did not want to waste any more time there.
While running, she sensed someone chasing after her. She turned around and swung the dagger in her hand, causing the man who was running after her to stumble back and fall on his bottom.
Xie Yi did not expect that Bai Meiyue would be so ruthless. He was just trying to get out of here without becoming a meal of those monsters. However, he dared not to act as haughty and smug as Lu Ling for fear that he would be thrown into the group of zombies like Lu Ling.
He raised his hands in surrender and then pleaded to Bai Meiyue, “Miss, Miss, listen to me, please. I am Xie Yi… and I have nothing to do with that man. He called me here because he needed someone to arrange the matters of the deal that he had to handle this evening. I and Lu Ling have nothing to do with each other. He and I only work together on certain deals and nothing else, so please take mercy on me.”
“A deal?” Bai Meiyue felt like the man was joking with her. How could Lu Ling arrange a deal in this situation?
However, the man didn’t seem to be lying.
She narrowed her eyes and then aimed at the dagger at the centre of the man’s forehead before stating, “You better tell me about this deal honestly or else I promise that my dagger will be the one doing the talking if I were to run out of patience.”
“I will talk, I will talk!” Xie Yi’s hands were still raised in the air. If it was someone else, Xie Yi would have tried to snatch the dagger from their hands and attack them. But he had seen Bai Meiyue’s ruthlessness just now and he dared not to make a move without understanding the real strength of this woman.
He swallowed hard and then explained the situation to Bai Meiyue, “It was official Zhou, Zhou Jinchuan. He and Lu Ling arranged a deal between the two of them and I was supposed to take the truck filled with weapons and antiques to Official Zhou and, in return, take the gold that the man had prepared and bring it all back to Lu Ling.”
“Gold?” Bai Meiyue’s eyes lit up when she heard Xie Yi’s words. However, a second later, her eyes turned cold and she nudged Xie Yi’s forehead with the tip of the dagger. “How can that be possible? With the world falling into chaos like this, how can someone still have the time to smuggle goods?”
“Miss, it seems like you are still a bit naive,” Xie Yi spoke in a hushed whisper. “The higher officials already knew that there was something wrong at Cloud City, and they were prepared for it for months. Only commoners like you and I were unaware of this situation leading us to be in danger.”
“As for the officials, they have enough money and supplies stored in their houses. Forget about smuggling weapons; even now they are living their lives like they used to while you and I and people like us are trying to survive this disaster.”
Only then did Bai Meiyue recall the past. If she was not wrong, a few bases appeared just four or five months after the apocalypse started. Back then she thought that it was because these bases were established by supernatural beings, but now that she had heard this information, she realised how selfish the higher-ups truly were!
Not only did they block every bit of information about Cloud City, but they also went behind the backs of people and arranged for a better life for themselves.
Selfish bastards!
It’s no wonder they had the time to establish the organisation behind all sorts of illegal activities. With adequate supplies, why would they worry about anything?
“Lu Ling arranged the deal with Official Zhou? That’s what you said, right?” Bai Meiyue asked as she nudged the man with the dagger’s tip again and Xie Yi nodded his head like a chicken pecking rice.
Bai Meiyue narrowed her eyes and slowly tried to recall all the information about Zhou Jinchuan.
She turned to look at Xie Yi and questioned, “Is it that man—the one with a large mole on his chin?”
“That’s right, Miss.”
‘Ah, it is that Zhou Jinchuan,’ thought Bai Meiyue, wishing she could find that man at this very moment and hack that man to death. ‘As expected of that shameless man.’
Aside from the people of the organisation and the Bai family, there were a few people whom Bai Meiyue hated just as much. And Zhou Jinchuan was one of those few people. She had no idea if Zhou Jinchuan was a member of that organisation that took her son away for the sake of experimenting but Bai Meiyue was certain that Zhou Jinchuan did have some kind of relationship with those people.
At least he supplied weapons to someone with a high position in the apocalypse.
Not to forget, Zhou Jinchuan had the perverse hobby of playing with underage girls. Back then, while pregnant with Bai Cai, Bai Meiyue did not have the time to nourish herself as all the good things were taken by Bai Xue and the Bai family, leaving her looking like a junior high school girl.
After all, she was short to begin with, and with continuous starvation and no decent nutrition going in her system, she became even thinner and weaker than she was before the apocalypse.
Once she went on a mission, Zhou Jinchuan, who was a lackey of those people from the organisation, set his eyes on her.
Because of this, she was knocked out cold and sent to his bed. When she woke up, she found herself tied to his bed and thrust into a situation where she couldn’t even fight back as she was drugged. Bai Meiyue was scared out of her wits back then because not only did she have to protect her child but also herself!
Fortunately, she was able to learn how to control her powers at that crucial moment and kicked that man out cold before running away or else she would have been ruined by him.
Even so, she would never forget how that man touched her face and swore that he would kill her child because he didn’t like the idea of doing her when she was carrying another wild man’s seed in her belly. Back then, she wanted to kill Zhou Jinchuan but was stopped by Bai Xue, who told her that their family would be in trouble if she was to kill Zhou Jinchuan and she agreed.

How foolish!
Clearly, Bai Xue and the Bai family had a hand in that matter. If not, why else would they coax her to not hunt Zhou Jinchuan down?
