Chapter 97: Forced Awakening
Manager Ni could have never imagined such a thing to happen, even in his wildest dream. He looked at Fang Qing, who was beaten black and blue, before turning to look at the residents who betrayed him for a small amount of supplies.
His face turned red due to anger and Manager Ni glared at Bai Meiyue angrily. He accused her, “How can you do such a thing? That’s your brother’s wife, the mother of your nephews! How can you ask these people to beat her up like this?”
“Do you think that you can do anything just because you have some supplies in your hands?”
“Yup.” Bai Meiyue nodded without any signs of hesitation.
Though Manager might not know this, in this world, Bai Meiyue was one of the richest people now. With the zombie apocalypse breaking all over the world, only those with supplies can survive. So, yeah. She could do whatever she wanted.
Her response made Manager Ni even angrier. He spat on the ground and snarled, “You are really heartless. I have never seen a woman as heartless as you in my life. With such little kindness and compassion, you are simply inhuman.”
Bai Meiyue didn’t respond; instead, she caught the man by his collar and pulled him close.
She raised the dagger in her hand and dragged its sharp tip over Manager Ni’s cheek. A small cut appeared on his skin and Manager Ni, who was yelling, turned as quiet as a quail.
“I have tolerated you for very long; don’t try to make use of your authority to lord over me; I am not going to hear a thing that you have to say, do you understand?” She pushed the man away from herself and Manager Ni scrambled away the second he was freed.
The rest of the crowd also stood up to leave.
“Wait,” Bai Meiyue stopped them, causing the heart of the crowd to jump to their throat. Was she stopping them to beat them up too?
The crowd of onlookers nervously turned around and looked at Bai Meiyue warily.
All of them were prepared to be beaten up but contrary to their expectations, Bai Meiyue simply pointed to Fang Qing and said to them,
“Drag her away. Don’t leave her here to dirty my threshold.”
The people in the crowd breathed a sigh of relief and immediately started working.
Bai Meiyue was also about to turn around and leave when she heard numerous screams coming from downstairs. It happened all of a sudden and the crowd of people who were dragging Fang Qing rushed right back.
“Monster!”
“AHH! There is a monster.”
“Save us!”
“Help us!”
“Let us inside your house; quick step aside.”
Bai Meiyue did not pay attention to them nor did she open the door for them to hide; instead, she closed the door behind her and rushed downstairs. Bai Zhan watched his sister run downstairs and was dumbfounded. But when he saw Bai Meiyue disappear, he didn’t even stop to think about the consequences and ran right after her. He knew why the people downstairs were screaming.
Surely, those men eating monsters attacked someone. As for how they arrived here, it did not matter to Bai Zhan. He only cared about his sister, who had charged downstairs like she could fight the zombies.
Just the thought alone was enough to make Bai Zhan shake in fear.
He wanted to drag Bai Meiyue back home after all; there was nothing that they could do at this point.
It was better to save themselves rather than saving others.
The crowd who ran to Bai Meiyue’s floor watched the two siblings run downstairs but they did stop them. Instead, they all turned to break the door that was stopping them from running inside the corridor, which was safer than the one downstairs.
However, the second someone tried to break the lock, they were electrocuted so hard that they were sent flying in the air and ended up dying on the spot.
Seeing this, the others were too scared to move.

They could only huddle in the corner and hope that those men eating monsters wouldn’t come up where they were hiding.
On the third floor, zombies were hovering inside and outside the apartment. Bai Meiyue sneered when she saw that most of these monsters were coming out of the room that Manager Ni had given to refugees, allowing them to bring the ones who were down with flu.
She already warned that Holier than thou man, something like this would happen but Manager Ni did not hear a thing that she had to say to him.
Bai Meiyue looked at the zombies that were stiffly walking in and out of the corridor and clenched the hold of her dagger, feeling quite satisfied when she saw a zombie wearing Manager Ni’s clothes.
‘Looks like the man got his comeuppance way too soon,’ thought Bai Meiyue as she charged at the zombies that were closest to her.
Just as she used the sharp tip of the dagger to smash the head of a zombie, Bai Zhan came downstairs as well. He saw his sister being surrounded by the monsters and his heart jumped to his throat.
“YUEYUE!”
Even though he was so scared that his legs had turned into jelly, Bai Zhan didn’t hesitate and rushed downstairs to stand in front of his sister. He couldn’t let these monsters kill his sister.
However, just as he charged into the battle, Bai Zhan was filled with regret that he did not bring anything with him. If he did, then he could have smashed the heads of these monsters.
In his desperation, he could only snatch the gold bracelet that he was wearing on his wrist and wrap it around his fingers. He hoped that his punch would be strong enough to knock the stuffing out of the monster’s head.
Just as he was thinking about it, Bai Zhan felt a warm sensation spread all over his hand and looked down. Only to see his entire arm turning into that of gold! However, he couldn’t care less about it at the moment and charged at the monster that pounced on his sister.
“Get away from my sister!” he yelled before punching the zombie. The impact of his punch was so powerful that the head of the monster burst like a pinata.
