Chapter 70: Preparations Before the Big Battle
In front of the Necromancer Tower where the ultimate boss, Azrael, resided,
William and Angela were making their final preparations here, about to face this being of unknown longevity.
William suddenly remembered something and asked the small bat perched on his head, “Lady Angela, how long have you been in this tomb?”
“I’m not sure, I’ve been here as long as I can remember. I’ve explored the entire tomb, but it’s boring. I’ve just been sleeping there all this time,” replied Angela.
Actually, William found it strange. As a vampire, why would Angela have inherited memories?
Angela accidentally revealed this while chatting with him.
Shouldn’t that be exclusive to those dragon clans?
Forget it, maybe Angela’s bloodline is special, not just any ordinary being; otherwise, the entire manor wouldn’t have promoted it to a golden-level boss.
With that in mind, William looked back.
Following him and Angela were swarms of dark figures, each emitting a terrifying aura.
These were all the monsters of the manor, all transformed into humanoid vampires and blood servants.
Among them were the two senior blood servants guarding the gate, with their pale faces and crimson eyes, fitting the stereotypical image of vampires.
When William was about to set out, he noticed that none of the manor’s monsters had attacked him or Angela. So, he asked Angela if she could control these creatures.
Angela indicated that it wasn’t a difficult task, given her status as a high-ranking vampire. She could command these mindless creatures, and she didn’t even consider these disgusting, shadowy figures her kin.
William then instructed Angela to gather all the manor’s monsters, even if they only served to absorb a single skill during the battle with Azrael.
The small bat naturally complied, transforming into its current form.
Perhaps it was a bit different from the real world, or maybe William didn’t recall anyone mentioning such an operation in his past life.
Honestly, leading a bunch of creatures that were supposed to be enemies to rampage through the realm felt pretty good.
On the way to the Necromancer Tower, even if they encountered roaming monsters, they didn’t need to avoid them from afar like before. These vampires behind them would swarm and tear those monsters to pieces.
If it weren’t for saving time, William even thought about returning to the Dark Palace to clear out the Headless Knights there.
But it was better to be cautious; he didn’t know how Nichole and Jason were doing right now.
Thinking so, William took a deep breath, preparing to enter the center of the Necromancer Tower.
“Lady Angela, where does Azrael usually stay?” William asked because in his previous life, after defeating the Headless Knight and Angela, Azrael would awaken and come automatically, without William having to seek him out.
The little bat on William’s head scratched its head. Truth be told, it had only been there once and couldn’t quite remember.
“It seems to be the room at the very top. I wandered around the tower in other places, and no one cared. But as soon as I entered that room, the necromancer would come out.”
So, because Azrael’s phylactery was in that room, Angela wasn’t allowed in.
“Then let’s go in. Be careful, Lady Angela, you let these folks behind us go in first.”
William instructed Angela to command the vampire minions to split into two groups: one to scout ahead and the other to surround William and Angela tightly.
“Just as planned, Lady Angela, you lead these monsters to lure Azrael out of that room. It’s best to lure him to the first floor. I’ll enter that room and destroy Azrael’s phylactery,” said William.

Angela nodded. If it was just to entangle Azrael, she was quite confident.
Fortunately, as a major boss, Azrael didn’t have the ability to summon minions. He was the only monster in the Lich’s Tower, so there was no need to worry about any other variables.
With all preparations made, William took a deep breath to adjust his mindset and then proceeded toward the Lich’s Tower with Angela.
One could say that this place prepared by Azrael after his transformation into a lich was quite something, right?
The entire tower was inscribed with dense arrays of magical runes, which had been operating normally for thousands of years, maintaining the tower’s cleanliness and tidiness. It didn’t look like the dusty and dilapidated appearance of other monster dens.
It was still the typical dark style architecture, but the Lich’s Tower’s main door was open outward and not sealed shut, with traces of attacks on it.
Angela whispered, “I opened it last time, it was quite a struggle.”
William just wanted to give Angela a thumbs up; this made things much easier.
Commanding the vampire cannon fodder to enter the tower first, there seemed to be no anomalies, probably because Angela had already cleared all the preset magical traps.
Entering the tower’s gate, they were greeted by a black, bare hall and stairs leading upward, without any fancy or special decorations.
Azrael probably thought that for a lich, there was no meaning in enjoying such things.
As for researching equipment and the like, there was still time to arrange them after successfully transforming into a lich.
William didn’t care about the chance to loot; he took out his staff and began casting various buffs and protection spells for himself and Angela.
Curiously, Angela looked up at these magical lights, feeling her abilities indeed enhanced, albeit not by much.
So, this is the magic from memory? It’s so beautiful! Much nicer than its blood magic.
Her determination to look outside grew stronger, and Angela casually cast buff spells on herself and William.
[Blood Magic · Bloodline Surge]: Activates the bloodline energy within the user’s body, temporarily increasing strength, speed, and perception by 30%. Duration: 30 minutes. Enters a 30-minute state of weakness after the buff ends.
[Blood Magic · Veil of Blood]: Increases the user’s evasion rate by 30%. Also, 20% of the damage dealt will be converted into a blood shield, resisting physical and magical damage. Duration: 30 minutes.
[Blood Magic · Bloodthirst]: 50% of the damage dealt by the user will be converted into health recovery. Duration: 1 hour.
So, this is the power of a golden-level vampire? Indeed strong!
These skills, which were annoying to deal with in previous lives, now felt quite satisfying to William.
The feeling of being filled with power was indeed nice. William and Angela advanced together towards the upper levels of the Lich’s Tower.
The tower had a total of five floors, with the topmost being where Azrael conducted lich transformations and where his phylactery was located.
The large group of monsters arrived at the top floor. William stood with Angela on one side, commanding the cannon fodder to go and open the door.
A black metal door embedded in the wall, not locked, was pushed open by a struggling minion.
Suddenly, his figure seemed to be struck by something, flying quickly and hitting the nearby wall.
A chilling gust of wind blew through, and a figure clad in black mage robes appeared before William and Angela.
Azrael!
