Chapter 86: Trial of the Cards!
“When the king said that, you seemed a little dazed,” Harold reminded William.
William heard the king’s words and was somewhat stunned.
Pick by himself? What does that mean? Harold glanced at William and reminded him, “His Majesty the King wants you to choose an item from the royal treasury yourself. This is the king’s favor, so you should express your gratitude.”
William finally realized and quickly bowed to Morton.
Wow, to let him pick from the royal treasury freely, that’s the collection of a kingdom. Even if he could only choose one item, it was still an incredible gift.
Why is the king so generous?
Morton looked at the handsome youth in front of him with a hint of meaning and said, “In the future, you’ll have to take care of Nichole more.”
After saying this, without waiting for William’s response, Morton waved his hand, letting the servant take William to the royal treasury.
After William left, Morton Fis fell silent for a moment. With a hint of interest, he said to Harold, “Our Viscount Cain is quite interesting.”
“Yes, a clever, rational, and somewhat cunning young man,” Harold replied with a smile.
“How did I not notice him before?” Morton mused.
“Haha, it means our eyesight isn’t what it used to be as we grow older,” Harold chuckled.
The king seemed to recall scenes of his youth when he and Harold worked together.
“Cedric, what do you think?” With the king’s question, a figure slowly emerged from the nearby wall. This seemed to be the king’s personal bodyguard.
“He seems to have a layer of gray mist around him. I can’t see through it, but judging from his aura, he should already be at the Silver Rank,” Cedric replied.
“Oh? You can’t even see clearly,” Morton said with some surprise. He naturally knew Cedric’s strength. It seemed that William had at least some high-level defensive items or equipment.
“An eighteen-year-old Silver Rank? Although not as good as Nichole, it’s still impressive,” Morton commented.
On the other side, Harold seemed to have caught something and asked tentatively, “Your Majesty, do you want to…?”
The king lowered his head in contemplation for a moment, then shook his head, sighing, “Forget it. Nichole is already so estranged from me. Let her make her own decisions.”
Harold nodded, sighing inwardly.
Jason, this child, is good in every way, but he’s a bit stubborn.
Harold thought so in his heart, but he didn’t have any hostile intentions towards William. Making enemies for no reason was not the style of the Harold family.
Moreover, Harold had already vaguely felt that this Viscount Cain wasn’t as harmless as he appeared.
On the other side, William followed the servant, moving deeper into the castle.
It seemed that the royal treasury should be directly below the castle.
However, William didn’t have any ulterior motives.
Joking aside, with the palace’s defenses and legendary monks and thieves outside, not to mention the countless alarms and trap magic arrays in the castle, even legendary thieves might not be able to pass through smoothly!
Following the servant, when they reached the bottom floor of the castle, a large metal door with a dark hue appeared before William’s eyes.
When William and the servant entered, the heavy door opened to the sides with a rumble.

There should be something like a tower spirit secretly controlling it?
William speculated, as he didn’t see the servant making any movements to open the door.
“Lord William, please!”
The servant bowed and gestured, allowing William to enter.
“His Majesty the King ordered that you can take one item from here. I won’t go in. Take your time to choose,” the servant reminded William.
“You can only take one. Remember, greed is inescapable here.”
With that reminder, the servant stepped aside and remained silent.
William nodded to himself, reminding himself that there were people secretly watching here, so he shouldn’t take too much.
Without thinking too much, William walked into the treasury door and was immediately dazzled by the dazzling treasures.
In the spacious hall, piles of gold coins were just the most common things here. Magical gems, rare and precious materials, were also commonplace.
Various rare materials were abundant, and William’s eyes caught sight of the prominently displayed red dragon claws and beorm fur.
Sets of magical equipment were displayed around, each emitting a shimmering magical aura. Many of them exuded the divine aura of the Church of Gods.
However, among the numerous weapons and equipment, there was a weapon rack that caught William’s attention. It seemed that a long sword had been placed here before, but it was now taken away.
After roughly browsing through the kingdom’s treasury, William had only one thought:
Wealth, too much wealth!
Is this the accumulation and heritage of the Fis dynasty?
William was sure that what he saw here was not all. The most precious treasures were not left here for him to choose freely.
At least, William didn’t find any legendary-level magical items or equipment.
Although legendary-level treasures were extremely rare and precious, William didn’t believe that the Fis Kingdom hadn’t accumulated a few. They were probably stored away.
William speculated, and Morton’s last words seemed strange, but maybe he was overthinking it.
Shaking his head and no longer considering those thoughts, William focused on the treasures before him.
After a quick scan, William frowned. He hadn’t found anything that suited his taste.
William wanted something that could effectively enhance his spell power.
Among the weapons and equipment, the ones before him were only of gold level, not much better than his jade staff and jade amulet, so there was no need to choose them.
As for other magical gems and advanced materials, William currently didn’t have the direct means to utilize them, so he reluctantly gave up on them.
Gold coins?
Unless William took all the gold coins from the treasury, there wasn’t much temptation.
Then, was it only… these left?
William turned his gaze to the items piled on the right side of the treasury.
This diverse pile of items emitting various magical auras should be the magical items collected in the royal treasury.
The Shadow Talisman he obtained from Joyce could also be considered a type of magical item, but its effect was extremely powerful.
William didn’t expect to get a magical item of the same level as the Shadow Talisman. He would be satisfied with something of considerable power.
William began searching through them.
Suddenly, among the magical items’ radiance, William saw a grayish box without any magical glow.
William was curious because such an ordinary-looking thing could appear in the treasury, indicating it was not simple.
Reaching out and taking the box, William gently opened it, revealing a pure black card lying quietly inside.
Taking the card in his hand, William examined it repeatedly, a smile appearing on his face.
He didn’t expect to find one here.
What a windfall!
Feeling the special pattern on the card, William silently recited:
Trial Card!
