Chapter 192: Daxton’s Dilemma
Lucius turned his gaze to the system interface. “System, what if I want to get a new talent but I don’t want to revert to 1-Star? Do you have any solution for that?”
A new text appeared on the system interface. Lucius immediately read what it was to see if it was the answer he was looking for.
—
[Level Retention Cost: If the user wishes to keep the current level without reverting to 1-Star, the cost scales based on the target’s current rank.]
[Cost Breakdown: 2-Star: Base Cost × 10; 3-Star: Base Cost × 100; 4-Star: Base Cost × 1,000; and so on. For God-Level Talent, separate purchases are required at 1-Star, 6-Star, and 9-Star.]
—
Lucius leaned forward slightly and smirked as he read the explanation. “I see it now. So, the cost increases exponentially based on the user’s current rank. That’s quite reasonable.”
He tapped his fingers on the table. “My talent is God-Level. When I first got it, the base cost was 1 million hack points before point simplification.”
He glanced back at the system display. “When mine was upgraded to 6-Star God Talent, it cost 100 million hack points after simplification.”
He smirked as it all made sense now. “From what I can deduce, the scaling matches perfectly: Base cost multiplied by 100,000 for a 6-Star talent.”
Lucius stood up, as he was excited the more he thought about it. “No wonder it was so expensive. But if I were to upgrade a 7-Star King Talent to 7-Star Emperor Talent…”
He paused as he calculated it in his mind. “It would cost 100 for base cost times 1 million hack points, which results in about 100 million hack points.”
He turned back to the table. He smirked as he glanced at the Red Dragon materials. “Interesting. With just one of these 7-Star materials, I could create six to eight 7-Star Emperor Talents.”
He glanced back at the old paper and immediately ripped it apart. “This ritual is worse than the system.”
Lucius tapped the table again. “But still, the system seems to be too overpowered. Even something like a talent upgrade could be made easier by it.”
Lucius then glanced around as his smirk shifted into a frown. “But what should I do? I can’t just let anyone know about the system for talent upgrades.”
Lucis paced the lab as he was searching for some answers. He also glanced at the Red Dragon Serum and suddenly it hit him.
He smirked as he thought about a new method. “Wait a minute. I can use this method.”
He sat back again and smirked wider. “If this works the way I think it does, then not only can I hide my system but I can also strengthen our people.”
Lucius smirked as he returned to the system interface. “Let’s test this theory, shall we?”
—
Daxton was now entering the grand hall. He had been summoned unexpectedly, and he couldn’t understand what the Patriarch wanted from him.
The moment he entered it, he could see that not only Patriarch Ragnar but also Matriarch Savra were seated on their thrones.
Young Master Lucius was also sitting on a small throne beside them. Lucius’ appearance made Daxton quite uncomfortable being here.
Daxton kneeled down and lowered his head respectfully. “What do you need me for, Patriarch?”
Ragnar leaned back slightly. “It’s not me who needs you, Daxton. It’s Lucius.”
Daxton was a bit surprised there. He shifted his gaze toward Lucius, who was now observing him. “What do you need from me, Young Master Lucius?”
Lucius didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he used his system to scan Daxton. His status screen soon appeared for Lucius to read.

Lucius smirked as he read the data. “Quite good. As expected from the leader of Volcaria’s armies. His data wasn’t that disappointed.”
Daxton still didn’t know what Lucius wanted but was still waiting for him to speak. The moment he saw his smirk, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Lucius glanced at Daxton and smirked wider. He stood up and walked toward him. “I called you here because I want to give you something.”
Daxton frowned as he looked up. “Give me something? What is it, Young Master?”
Lucius stopped a few steps in front of Daxton and smirked. “It’s an opportunity that is also an experiment that could elevate you to an entirely new level.”
Daxton was surprised as he processed Lucius’s words. “An experiment? What kind of experiment is it?”
Lucius chuckled as he crossed his arms and tilted his head slightly. “The kind that’s unpredictable.”
Lucius also shrugged. “To be perfectly honest, I still don’t know exactly how it will turn out. That’s why it’s called an experiment.”
Daxton frowned as he read Lucius’ face. “So, you don’t even know if it will succeed?”
Lucius waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry. I’m seventy percent sure it will succeed, but still, there’s still a thirty percent chance of failure.”
Daxton stiffened slightly. “And if it fails?”
Lucius smirked. “If it fails, the consequences are… harsh. You may lose the ability to tame beasts entirely. Your connection to them could be severed forever.”
Lucius smirked as he stepped closer and extended his hand. “Now, what do you think? Will you take the chance?”
Daxton frowned. He immediately glanced toward Patriarch Ragnar and Matriarch Savra, searching for answers.
He knew that if anyone in Volcaria should know what Lucius was planning, it would be the Patriarch and Matriarch.
But Ragnar and Savra were also the same. They didn’t know what Lucius was trying to do. Both of them furrowed their brows as they exchanged a brief glance.
Ragnar leaned forward slightly, resting his chin on his hand as he sighed. “Daxton, truthfully, I have no idea what he’s up to.”
Savra nodded in agreement as she glanced at Lucius. “He didn’t tell us much, but knowing his. There’s always a method to his madness.”
Daxton frowned even more when he heard. He never thought that even they didn’t know about it. He didn’t know what to do or answer now.
