Chapter 194: Daxton’s Bold Sacrifice
Lucius smirked as he put his hand on Daxton’s shoulder. “Don’t worry too much. I’m sure Matriarch Savra has something that can handle this situation.”
He turned toward Savra and asked. “You have something that can heal a severed hand, don’t you?”
Savra frowned slightly, leaning back in her chair as she crossed her arms. “If we’re talking about fingers, then yes.”
Savra then took out some potions from her spatial ring. “These can handle that easily. And they’re relatively cheap, considering our resources.”
She also frowned as she added. “But a whole hand? That’s a different story. Healing something like that is possible, but it’s going to be far more expensive.”
Lucius’ smirk didn’t waver. Instead, he nodded thoughtfully. “I see. In that case, I’ll just take one of your fingers instead of your entire hand.”
Daxton was surprised as he processed the shift in Lucius’ request. “A finger?”
Savra chuckled and smirked as she leaned forward. “If it’s just a finger, then you don’t need to worry.”
Savra held the potion. “We can heal the finger with this. It could even recover the loss of your blood.”
Lucius turned back to Daxton and smirked. “You see it, right? The Matriarch has promised that you’ll be healed.”
Lucius crouched down and glanced at him. “Now, the question is, what will you do? There’s no turning back once we start.”
Daxton tightened his jaw. He glanced between Lucius and Savra. He was quite relieved, knowing that his injuries could be healed, but still it was still tense.
Daxton then sighed as he resolved himself to the task ahead. “If Matriarch Savra guarantees it, then I’ll do it. No matter what the cost.”
Lucius smirked after hearing Daxton’s decision. He immediately prepared the bucket. “Then let’s proceed. You can do it now.”
Daxton nodded without hesitation. Without a word, he approached the bucket.
Daxton used a small knife and slashed across his arms. Blood spurted out in a vivid arc, splashing into the bucket. Daxton maintained his composure as the bucket was filled with blood.
Lucius watched intently and was quite surprised. He hadn’t expected Daxton to act so decisively, nor to endure the pain without so much as a wince. “Impressive.”
Once the bucket was filled, Daxton set the knife down for a moment. He took a deep breath before doing the next thing.
He picked up the blade again and pressed it against one of his fingers. Without hesitation, he severed his finger with one clean motion.
Lucius was surprised as he watched Daxton wrap the wound with a cloth he’d prepared earlier. “Impressive. You did it like it was nothing.”
Daxton glanced at him and smiled despite the pale complexion caused by blood loss. “It was because I’m the leader of the Volcaria soldiers.”
He glanced at his severed finger and injuries across his arms. “If I can’t handle something like this, then what kind of leader would I be?”
He just chuckled as he patted the back of his head. “It’s just that… sometimes I feel like a coward. But this? This, I can do.”
Lucius nodded. He respected him quite a bit. “I see. Rest assured, this will be finished soon. For now, drink the potion and rest.”
Savra watched the scene and tossed the vial toward Daxton. He caught it effortlessly, uncorking the potion with his teeth before downing its contents in a single gulp.
Daxton let out a slow breath. His complexion had improved and also his pain began to subside thanks to the potion. “That’s better.”
Lucius smirked as he turned around and went to his own laboratory. “Now, let’s begin the real work and make the best experiment possible.”
—
Lucius was now back in his laboratory. He looked down at the severed finger and the bucket of blood on the table before him.

Lucius smirked as he murmured to himself. “These materials are just to ensure that no one else dares to replicate what I’m about to do.”
He smirked as he leaned closer to the blood and finger. “By telling them that these are the ingredients, I eliminate the possibility of anyone that wanted to try to make it.”
Lucius turned to the system. “Absorb the energy from these materials and convert it into hack points.”

[Effect: Convert genetic material into hack points.]

Lucius watched the blood and the finger began to dissolve into light particles before vanishing entirely. “It didn’t give me that many points.”
He leaned back in his chair as he gazed at the empty table. “But still, every point counts.”
Lucius then smirked as he began to close his eyes. “For now, I’ll rest. When the time is right, I’ll deliver the pill to Daxton and the real transformation will begin.”
The lab fell silent as Lucius closed his eyes. He immediately went to sleep after a few days without it.

In the main hall of the Volcaria estate, Ragnar and Savra sat opposite one another. They were really curious about what Lucius was doing.
Ragnar leaned back in his chair as he tapped the armrest. “He always does whatever he wants. No matter the situation, no matter the stakes.”
Savra, who sat across from him, smirked as she rested her chin on her hand. “True. Even back then, the moment he arrived, he acted as if he owned the place. Bold and unrestrained.”
Ragnar nodded and smirked. “And after becoming an elder in our family? He’s only grown bolder.”
Savra laughed. “He’s completely unrestrained now. The things he does, the risks he takes—sometimes it’s as if he’s testing the limits of what we’ll tolerate.”
Ragnar shrugged. “That’s just who he is and honestly? It’s worked out more often than not. Whatever he does always ends up shocking us.”
Savra tilted her head slightly. “You’re not wrong. Every time I think I’ve figured him out, he does something even more outrageous.”
She then smirked as she turned around. “I can’t deny that it’s effective. Lucius has a way of turning his risks into results.”
Ragnar chuckled. “Exactly. That’s why we let him do what he does. There’s no point in interfering—he’ll just find a way to shock us again.”
Savra nodded as she leaned back in her chair. “I suppose all we can do now is wait. Whatever he’s working on, I’m sure it’ll be worth the trouble.”
Ragnar grinned. “Agreed. Let’s see what he comes up with this time.”
The two of them laughed as they were curious and amused by what their unrestrained elder would do next.
