Chapter 208: The Ghosts of the Past
Ragnar, Savra, and Lucius stepped out to meet the Empire’s armies. They didn’t cower despite the overwhelming numbers arrayed before them.
At the head of the Empire’s forces stood King Astorius. He narrowed his eye as he glanced at Ragnar, who stood confidently in front of him.
Beside him, Karion stood with a faint smirk as he glanced at the Ragnar, knowing the fate of Volcaria later on in this war today.
Ragnar was the first to speak as he stepped forward and mocked the king. “So, is this your answer, Astorius? To think that you are so afraid of us.”
The air grew heavier as the Volcaria patriarch deliberately called the king name. Astorius immediately frowned as he took a step forward.
“How dare you, Volcaria! To dare address the king by name. Are you looking for death?
Ragnar smirked as he crossed his arms. “The moment you brought those armies to our gates, you ceased being our king. You made your choice, Astorius, long before this.”
The Empire’s soldiers stirred slightly at the bold declaration, but Astorius raised his hand, silencing them with a calm gesture.
Astorius smirked a little as he locked eyes with Ragnar. “It seems that you already know our answer, Ragnar.”
As Ragnar and Astorius continued to mock each other, Lucius remained silent. He stood slightly behind Ragnar and Savra.
He was glaring at King Astorius, studying him carefully. At first, he had dismissed the king as just another self-important ruler.
But as the conversation continued, something about Astorius’s face struck something deep within him.
Lucius frowned as he finally realized it, observing the king’s features further. It was not perfectly similar, but it was faintly similar.
It was the face of someone tied to a bitter memory he had long buried. “That face… It’s too similar to my original body! How the hell can he have that face?”
Lucius frowned as he remembered his past. Thousands of years ago, his body had been stolen, his soul forcibly removed by a cunning thief.
That thief had used a forbidden technique to occupy Lucius’s body just to obtain the Beast Hack System.
His soul was forcibly put into the seed that grew into the sacred tree. Fortunately, the system was tied to his soul, so the thief could not use his system.
Lucius clenched his fist as he remembered the memory. “So that cowardly thief survived long enough to have descendants? And this Astorius… he’s one of them.”
Lucius then smirked as a new realization appeared. “The technique must have been flawed. The fool could only transfer his soul once, leaving the body to his bloodline. And now, this king, this so-called ruler, is the result.”
The more he thought about it, the more his smirk widened and malicious intent appeared on his face. This revelation wasn’t just surprising—it was exhilarating. “This is perfect.”
He flexed his fingers as he thought. “Not only does he represent the Empire standing against us, but he’s also tied to my past—to the one who wronged me. Destroying him will be a personal satisfaction.”
As the exchange between Ragnar and Astorius continued, Lucius already planned something.
The king’s presence was no longer just an obstacle—it was an opportunity. An opportunity to reclaim a fragment of his stolen past and exact his long-awaited vengeance.
Lucius chuckled and smirked as his eyes were locked onto Astorius. “Oh, King Astorius, he thought, you’ve just become far more interesting. Let’s see how long you can hold onto that crown.”
Lucius then stepped forward confidently as he locked his gaze on Astorius. He smirked as he began to address the king directly without respect.
“Hey, you arrogant bastard king, Astorius. Are you sure that you want to start a war with Volcaria?”
Astorius immediately snapped his gaze toward Lucius and frowned the moment he saw the young man’s figure who dared to mock him.
“Who is this midget who dares to mock me and call me by the name without any respect?!”
Ragnar chuckled softly as he stepped forward with amusement. He immediately introduced Lucius to Astorius. “That ‘midget’ that you call is Lucius. He is an elder of the Volcaria family.”

Karion, who stood beside the king, burst into laughter. He pointed his finger at Lucius and began mocking Ragnar.
“An elder? Your family must really be desperate if you’re letting a kid play elder. Your family had already fallen this low even before we fought.”
Lucius remained unfazed as he turned his gaze toward Karion. He immediately mocked him back as he said some names.
“It seems I need to teach you some respect, Karion. You’re no different from your sons, Kaltrik and Kaelix, who were also arrogant bastards.”
The mention of his deceased sons caused Karion’s aura to flare violently. He glanced at Lucius and growled. “Damn you, Lucius! To think that you dare to mock my dead sons!”
Lucius chuckled softly as he leaned forward slightly. “Mock them? You are kidding me.”
Lucius then became serious as he stepped forward. “They are really arrogant bastards and let me tell you a little secret that I’ve been keeping Karion.”
Lucius smirked as he began to reveal his deep secret. “Both of your sons’ deaths were caused by me.”
Karion froze as he flared his aura violently in shock. “You… you dare to kill my sons?!”
Lucius raised his hand to silence Karion with a chuckle. “Oh yes. I killed them. And do you know what the best part was?”
His smirk widened as he leaned forward slightly and locked his eyes onto Karion. “They never even knew who was behind it.”
The room seemed to grow hotter as Lucius’s smirk deepened. “Their faces—when they realized they were dying… confused, helpless, utterly broken—were truly satisfying to watch.”
Karion was trembling in anger as he roared. “Lucius! You… you bastard! I’ll kill you!”
Lucius chuckled again as he continued. “Just hold a minute, Karion. I’m not done yet.”
Lucius reached into his spatial ring and pulled out two objects. The people immediately recognized that they were two severed arms that Lucius had just made with his hack points.
Lucius smirked as he gestured toward the grotesque trophies. “These are the arms of your sons, Kaltrik and Kaelix. I kept them as trophies. They were beautiful, aren’t they, Karion?”
The revelation was so shocking that even the Empire’s soldiers, who had remained stoic throughout the confrontation, exchanged uneasy glances.
Karion looked at the severed arms and realized that they were indeed his sons arms.
He glanced back at Lucius and roared in anger. “You… you monster! How dare you defile their memory like this?!”
Lucius’ smirk never wavered as he leaned back slightly. “Defile? No, Karion. I honored their deaths by keeping these. A reminder of how easily they fell… and how powerless you are to stop me.”
