Chapter 55: System’s Warning
Lucius then looked at the trembling white beast. He was quite satisfied with the hack just now, but he wanted more.

]He then immediately turned to the system and said, “Hack it again. Make its claws sharper and its muscles tougher, but this time, by ten times.”

Lucius was surprised after seeing the system’s response and was quite angry at the same time. “Denied? Why can’t I hack the beast further? Aren’t you the Beast Hack System?”

Lucius still didn’t understand, as the system’s words were too simple now, but he began to read the words more carefully.

Lucius then thought it more carefully after reading it and finally he could conclude something as he looked at the word “essence”.

“Beast Essence, huh? It seems that the essence that the system meant is the base of the beast or, I can even say, the soul of the beast.”

Lucius then turned toward the system again and said, “So, you don’t just hack the beast but their essence or soul, so no wonder all of the beasts that are felt normal afterward.”

Lucius soon understood it, but he soon frowned after thinking more about it. He felt like something about the system was not right.

“If the system denies hacking to prevent a beast’s death from too much or heavy hacks, then why didn’t it stop me a few months ago?” He said it in confusion.

A few months ago, Lucius had hacked some beast to go on rampage to destroy a village for revenge. The beasts that had been rampaging for a while also suddenly collapsed and died.

“They died just after rampaging for a moment and that had put too much burden on their bodies, making them die so easily. They could be said to die because of the hacks, so why didn’t the system stop me?”

Lucius then immediately turned to the system and asked, “Explain it to me. Why didn’t you stop me a few months ago but stop me now? Why allow one and forbid the other?”

Lucius then understood it immediately, just after reading it. He was then chuckled, “I see. So, the hacks I used to force those beasts into a rampage were just temporary hacks.”

Lucius then continued, “They didn’t alter their essence, only their behavior or physical capabilities for a limited time, with a price later on that were their deaths.”

He then folded his arms and smirked, “But the permanent hacks, which are the ones that truly shape the beast, are bound by its essence. The soul can only bear so much before it breaks.”

Lucius smirked as he tapped his chin. “Really Interesting. It prioritizes preservation of the beast’s essence for permanent modifications. A built-in safeguard to maintain my resources.”

Lucius then turned back to the system, “You must know it, right? Tell me how to strengthen a beast’s essence so it can endure more hacks.”

Lucius smirked after seeing it, “Evolution, huh? It is just as I expected, but I never thought about beast fusion? So, you really can fuse beasts, huh? Interesting.”

Lucius then began to summon another white beast from a second beast ring. The new white beast then appeared and when it looked around, it was surprised to see the one beside it.

It could see that the one that was bigger than him was the same as him, except it was bigger, stronger, and also had a pair of tiger claws.

Lucius, who looked at the surprised white beast, was amused as he crouched down and said, “Even among your kind, fear is instinctual, huh? Don’t you worry, as you won’t be left behind.”

Lucius then turned to the system and said, “Hack this one as well. Make it eight times larger, toughen its muscles by five times, and add a horn to its forehead—sharp enough to pierce steel.”

The system soon reduced the required points and began the hacking. The new white beast immediately let out a panicked cry as it began to feel pain.

Its body then began to grow rapidly into the same size as the previous white beast and its muscles were also tightened to the same level.

But there were some differences between the two white beasts, as this one had a horn that power didn’t lose to the tiger claws.

Lucius was satisfied after watching the transformation. He then began to scan the new white beast to see if he also had the same stats as the previous one.

Lucius also glanced back at the first modified beast, scanning it as well. Its species had also been changed, as it was now listed as a “Large White Tiger-Clawed Beast.”

Lucius then concluded, “Too many hacks can rewrite the essence of the beast that can even change the species. It can be said as an evolution but it is not, as it doesn’t raise its star level.”

He then looked at both beasts and clasped his hand. “Species names are irrelevant as they are just names to identify both of you.”

Lucius then suddenly smirked, “What matters is potential and the power that you will have after some hacks, so why don’t we continue our experiment?” Lucius said as he watched the two trembling beasts.
