Her gut was telling her that she was back to finish what she left behind.

And as she entered the car with her son, she made a decision.

She did care whatever it was she had to face; she was going to stand up for herself this time; whoever or whatever it was wasn’t going to mess with her the second time, they should be wary of her, and she hoped they had the sixth sense to stay away from her.

Tomorrow, she’d be meeting the client who brought her back here; she hoped they wrapped up their business deals within a week; she wanted to tour her son around the States and visit her grandfather.

Ariel had asked Gideon to find a suitable apartment for her before she came back and that’s where she was headed.

She reached the apartment and saw Eva coming out from the front car to go in with her.

She sighed and paused in front of the apartment building, “That’s enough, Eva.

I’ve done this much for you, it’s time for you to leave me alone.

This is your country; I’ve brought you back home.

Please, go back to your parents and leave me and my family alone; we don’t need you,” She said seriously.

Eva shook her head, looking at Logan and Mr.

Sloan who were standing beside the car.

I can’t, Ariel,” Eva replied in a low voice.

Ariel frowned, “What do you mean you can’t, Eva?” Eva moved closer to her and raised her hand to hold her but brought it back down when it was halfway.

She sighed and stepped back.

“I’m not going back to them, Ariel, you’re my only family now, you and Jace, and I’m not leaving you no matter how much you chase me away,” She gave Ariel a small nod and walked back to the car.

“I’ll just rent an apartment beside yours, just like Loagn is doing,” Eva informed and got back in the car, shutting the door.

“Unbelievable,” Ariel sighed, Exasperated.

“Come on, princess.

Let’s get you settled in,” Logan carried Ariel’s bags and started walking toward the apartment.

“Go on, child.

I’ll see you tomorrow, the sleeping boy must be heavy on your shoulder,” Mr.

Sloan walked up to her and kissed her cheek.

Ariel nodded, “See you tomorrow, Dad, goodnight,” She smiled and followed Logan into the building.

Logan patiently waited for Ariel in front of the elevator, and when she got to him, he opened it and let her walk in first.

They were quiet as the elevator went up, each in their thoughts.

Ariel was thinking about Eva’s words.

What did she mean when she said that she and her son were now her only family?

Didn’t she want to return to her darling parents anymore?

If yes, then why?

Meanwhile, Logan was thinking about why Ariel wouldn’t let him live in the same apartment as her.

After all; he would be sleeping in a different room, respecting her privacy; he just wanted to be close to her.

He thought acting like her would mean they’d be living together, but he guessed wrongly.

He wished he would be able to make Ariel fall in love with him for real within the three months of their fake dating.

The elevator opened, and Ariel walked out first; Logan quietly followed her behind.

She reached her door and unlocked it with her key card.

She sighed in satisfaction when the living room was just her style, not too decorated or flamboyant but classy, with just two sofas and a small table at the center.

She stared at the huge tv-screen knowing she was hardly going to use it, maybe Jace would.

“Um, which one is your room?” Logan asked beside her.

Ariel moved forward and looked around.

To her far left was a dining and a door behind the dining should probably be the kitchen, so it’s pulled out as a room, no sane person would put a room behind a dining, that was for sure.

She looked around and noticed short and slim stairs that led upstairs.

She was confused; Gideon never told her the “small” apartment she asked him to get would have a miniature upstairs that harbored her rooms.

“Hmm, I didn’t notice this; let’s go check it out,” She pointed to the stairs and was already walking up to them.

“Careful,” Logan’s gentle voice said from behind her.

“I am,” She chuckled.

She got to the top and saw the short passage with two doors facing each other and one facing her at the end of the passage.

“Well, we just have to open them and find out which ones are mine,” She shrugged and went to open the one beside her, but Logan held her hand.

“Let me, you’re carrying a child,” He gently lowered her hand beside her and slid past her.

He pushed open the door by the left and shook his head, “I guess this is Jace’s room, come in,” He held the door open for her.

Ariel stepped in and smiled, “Gideon is so extra,” She chuckled when she saw one side of the wall dedicated to a huge shelf that held all sorts of toys ranging from robots, Disney animated toys, cars, Lego building blocks, etc.

“Lay him on the bed, princess,” Logan reminded when he saw that Ariel was lost in admiring the toys.

“Oh,” She blinked away from the toy and carried Jace over to the bed, gently laying him down and removing his shoes.

“Ahh, my back hurts,” She grunted as she stretched herself, turning her upper body from left to right.

“Let’s go,” She said and turned away after making sure Jace was properly covered.

“Which room do you-” “That one, I know it’s the master’s” She smiled and confidently walked toward the room at the end of the passage.

“Yep, I was right!” She announced excitedly.

“Come on in!” She waved him in as she entered the white bedroom.

“It’s beautiful, it suits you,” Logan said as he pushed her luggage beside her white wardrobe.

There was a huge wall mirror on the left side of the room, and Ariel loved it; she wouldn’t need to turn around and around just to check her outfit after dressing up.

“Thank you, Logan,” she turned to him and spread her arms for a hug.

Logan didn’t hesitate, he was in her arms in a second, hugging her tightly.

He looked behind her in the mirror and saw how perfectly she fit in his arms; he wished this was real; he’d never felt this way for anyone before.

Ariel sighed and you patted his back, “Thank you for everything, Logan.

You know, without you, I wouldn’t be here.

I would have become a skeleton buried in the ocean beds, and maybe when you found my bones in one of your diving, you would have just taken a few pictures for a documentary and left me behind,” She said.

Logan chuckled at her story, “But none of that happened; I found you, a human, a beautiful, living human, and I was glad I did; you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever known,” He whispered beside her face.

Ariel smiled, “You know, I’m not the only one you saved that night, why…why me?

Why did you choose to fall for me, Logan?

I can’t give you what you want,” She whispered.

Logan slowly detached from the high but didn’t step back, he gently held her face in both hands and smiled down at her, “In matters of love, we don’t have control over it, even if we tried to control it, the heart will always want what it wants, Ariel, that’s the most complicated things about us humans, love will always be our weakness.

And my heart wants you, Ariel, not just my heart, my whole being craves you; I love you,” He confessed in a low voice; his emotions could be detected in his voice.

Ariel felt his sincerity, and she wished she could bring herself to love him back; he seemed honest, and deep down, she wasn’t going to lie to herself that she did feel something for him, but it wasn’t enough.

Like he’d said, the heart wants what it wants, and at that moment, it was just her brain telling her that she had to try and love him; her heart wasn’t saying a damn thing yet.

“I love you, Ariel,” Logan put a hand around her waist and gently drew her into him.

Ariel knew what was coming, and she wasn’t about to stop him this time; she wanted to know how she’d feel, too, and she wanted to find out how her body and heart would react.

She saw his face lowering to hers, and she stood her ground, staring into his warm brown eyes, their nose touched, and she still didn’t move away; she could see the hesitation in his eyes.

Their lips were just a breath away, and Logan paused, silently asking for permission; he saw that Ariel wasn’t moving away from him, and he took that as a green sign and gently pressed his lips to hers.

Ariel closed her eyes as she felt Logan’s lips on hers, this was her first kiss after three years.

Logan was gentle; he didn’t want to push his luck.

His lips were almost not touching hers as he moved them against hers.

However, the moment Ariel wanted to kiss him back, he stepped back, smiling.

Ariel frowned, staring at him in confusion.

He chuckled and scratched the back of his in embarrassment.

“What?

You suddenly don’t want to kiss me anymore?” She questioned with a raised brow, “It’s just a kiss, it doesn’t mean we won’t take things slow,” She shrugged.

Logan shook his head, still looking embarrassed.

Ariel found it cute and funny to see his cheeks flushed.

“That’s why I stepped away, Ariel, if I let you kiss me back, we wouldn’t be taking things slow tonight,” He looked down between his legs.

“Ohh,” Ariel gasped and looked away from him.

She must have been away from men too much to forget how these things worked.

Of course, Logan was aroused, he was a man who was alone with the woman he loved, and at night, what was she expecting?

“I’m sorry, I-” Logan chuckled, “No, it’s not your fault, it’s just a natural occurrence.

I guess it’s my cue to leave, I’ll see you tomorrow?” He smiled and awkwardly adjusted his pants.

Ariel was blushing, “Yes, see you tomorrow,” She nodded.

Logan nodded and walked out of the room.

Ariel quite followed him behind as he went downstairs.

“Goodnight, Logan,” she waved as he left the house.

“Good night, princess,” He replied with a short wave before he walked toward the elevator.

Ariel sighed and closed her door.

“Welcome back,” She muttered before going up to her room.

Tomorrow would be the beginning of a new unpredictable chapter for Ariel.
