Chapter 148: Chapter 148 Chapter 148: Chapter 148 Ariel was pushing the cart in the mall with Jace sitting inside it, munching on a snack.
She was absentmindedly looking around the Isles as she walked by, her mind thinking about what Aiden had told her before he left her apartment a few hours ago.
“No matter what, it’s me and you in the end,” She was imagining what Aiden was planning to do to convince her to come back to him.
Honestly, he didn’t need to do much; she could already feel herself leaning toward him; the only problem was Moon and her child; that kind of family drama wasn’t what she needed at this point in her life.
“Boo,” “Oh!” Ariel blinked after she gasped, she looked behind her to find Jewel smiling widely at her.
“Jewel, you’re too old for this,” She sighed, shaking her head with a little frown.
Jewel shrugged, “One’s never too old for fun, darling,” He moved beside her and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Jewel saw the boy sitting inside the shopping cart and paused; he stared at the boy’s face, and then he slowly looked at Ariel’s; there was no need to ask a question that had an obvious answer.
“Good afternoon, sir,” Jace greeted in-between bites.
Jewel immediately wore a heart’s eyes at the sound of the boy’s voice.
“Hello, handsome, I’m Jewel, your Mummy’s bestie,” Jewel went over to stand in front of the cart so he could lower himself and speak to Jace.
Jace gave him an unreadable look before he slowly nodded, “I’m Jace,” He introduced himself.
“Aww, he’s so cute, Ariel.
Why did you hide such a cutie from me, can I hold you?” Jewel asked excitedly.
He loved kids, but he never got the chance to be around them because of work and lifestyle.
Jace nodded, raising his hands for Jewel to pick him up.
“Aww, look at his cheeks, so cute, just like the fa-” “Jewel…” Ariel pushed the cart and hit Jewel’s butt, causing him to frown and look back at her.
She slowly shook his head at him.
Jewel took a second to understand what she was talking about, “oh, right, no mentioning that person.
Jace, do you like toys?” He questioned the little boy.
“Yes, I do,” Jace replied, smiling, he already liked this beautiful uncle.
“Then, let this handsome and rich uncle spoil you today, let go,” He gently placed Jace back on the shopping cart and went over to Ariel.
“Move,” He used his hips to push Ariel away and took them art from her, “We have a lot to talk about,” He narrowed his eyes at her before he pushed the cart forward.
Ariel sighed and grabbed another cart for her shopping, she knew she had to tell Jewel something at some point.
She followed them behind, just in case Jace needed her to carry her, but from the look of things, Jace seemed to be enjoying Jewel’s funny company.
She decided to leave Jace with Jewel and quickly go to the food section to pick some things.
Ariel had picked a few vegetables and spices when someone gently tapped her back.
“Are you guys done?” She arsed without looking behind, thinking it was Jewel.
“It’s me, Ariel,” Eva’s voice replied behind her.
Ariel immediately dropped her smile.

She slowly turned to look at Eva, who was wearing a grey hoodie and black pants.
Her style had changed since after the incident three years ago; she’d abandoned the bright colors and was now a member of dark colors; even her hair was back to her normal brown color too.
“Are you stalking me, Eva?” Ariel asked.
Eva shook her head, “No, I’m here to shop, and I just happened to run into you…where is Jace?” She asked, looking around for the little guy.
Ariel couldn’t say Eva was lying; it might be true that she had also come to shop here, “He’s around,” She replied and turned to walk away.
“Ariel,” Eva called, holding Ariel’s back.
Ariel sighed; she knew that Eva wasn’t going to let her walk away just like that.
“What is it again, Eva?” She asked.
“Um, now that we’re back here, you know, we haven’t really talked about what happened in the past between us.
I did wrong and I want to make it all right.
I’m ready to confess to Mr.
Chaz that Jace is his child and you never cheated on him.
He should know we set you up,” She suggested.
Ariel raised her brow at Eva, “You’d do no such thing, Eva.
You’re indeed admiring your wrongs, but the business between me and Aiden doesn’t concern you or anyone else.
Have you asked me if I want him to know about Jace?
Or you’re just stirring up trouble as always?” She questioned.
Eva shook her head, “No, no, no, trouble is the last thing I want from you, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have concluded on your behalf.
But, I’m just trying to let you know that I’m always here if you need me, no matter what you want, I’ll do it for you, Ariel…you’re my younger sister, and I love you,” Eva said in a soft voice.
Ariel was quiet, for the first time, her sister said those loving words to her.
She’d craved to hear those words for years, yet when she heard it, she didn’t know how to feel anymore.
One thing she did feel was confused, she didn’t know if she was moved or irritated, it was somewhere between the lines.
She smiled at Eva, “I’ll keep that in mind, Eva.
But I want you to live your life, live for you, stop feeling like you owe people your service before you are accepted; you only live once, so do you, Eva, let the past be in the past,” Ariel said genuinely.
What was the use of hating someone who already hated herself?
She understood Eva’s feelings of loneliness; she’d been there before, too, and it wasn’t a good feeling.
So if there was something she could do to help someone from that, then she would do it.
Eva nodded her head, she looked up at Ariel and asked her.
“If I’m not asking for too much…can I hug you?” She slowly started walking toward Ariel.
Ariel watched Eva’s tired face; she looked like someone who hadn’t slept a wink for weeks, and she looked like she cried herself to sleep every night.
A hug can heal many unseen wounds and scars, so why wouldn’t she refuse a simple request that could make someone’s day?
Ariel nodded her head, “Sure, Eva,” She spread her arms for Eva in invitation when she saw her hesitation.
Eva cautiously walked into Ariel’s arms and hugged her.
She wrapped her arms around Ariel’s waist and sighed softly when she felt Ariel’s hand gently patting her back.
This was way better than the fights they’d had in the past; why didn’t she just choose peace in the beginning?
It’s definitely less draining than the troubles.
“Thank you, Ariel; you don’t know what this means to me.
You’re the only family I have now.
I’m forever grateful for your forgiveness, and you make me want to be the best of myself.
Thank you,” Eva whispered.
Ariel smiled, “Just be happy, Eva, that’s all that matters,” She patted Eva’s back one last time before she stepped away from her.
Eva nodded and swiftly wiped away the tears from her eyes.
She was about to say something to Ariel when a familiar voice called her from behind them.
“Eva?” Ariel saw pick flash across Eva’s eyes and knew that, just maybe, she should stay and stand beside Eva this once; she looked like she needed someone by her side at that moment.
Ariel already knew who it was before the woman proudly walked around them and stood in front of them.
“Eva Hudson?
How dare you run away from home after disappointing your father and me,” Catherine scowled at Eva as she stood in front of her.
Eva balled her fists and glanced at Ariel.
“I-” “You have no excuse, Eva, you’re supposed to be ashamed, you let us down and – wait…who’s this beside you?” Catherine narrowed her eyes at Ariel, an evil glint flashing through her eyes.
“No way, don’t tell me you decided to run away with this bastard-” “Mind your words, Mother,” Eva churned Catherine.
Ariel raised a brow in surprise, this was the first time she’d ever seen Eva speak back to her mother.
Catherine looked shocked, she glared at Ariel, “Is this what she’d turned you into?
You should be ashamed, Eva, she’s supposed to be dead, and you’re supposed to be the one who gave Aiden a child, but no!
What did you do?
You chose to run away with this coward and let that adopted child seduce Aiden, look how we lost that opportunity all because of your cowardice, and-” “And what, mother?” Eva stepped forward, an angry look on her face.
“Didn’t Moon pay off your debts?
Didn’t she help remove the shame from you and father’s face, why are you still making a fuss?
That was the only thing you both cared for, now you’ve got it, please, do not speak to me or Ariel.
I’m that tone; I’ve been fine for three years on my own; I don’t need you now, to nag me,” Eva delivered with a hard frown.
Catherine gasped, “I’m nagging?” She pointed Ted to herself with her thumb.
She stepped toward Eva, ready to slap her, “I’ll remind you that I’m your mother, you stupid – argh!” Catherine’s hand that raised to slap Eva was caught mid-air and she was suddenly pushed to the floor.
“You!” She glared at Ariel who now stood in front of Eva.
“We don’t do that anymore, Catherine, in case you didn’t hear the young lady, she simply asked you to leave her alone,” She reminded with a straight face.
Catherine sprang up from the floor and was about to attack Ariel but a strong hand held her shoulder.
“Excuse me, Mrs.
Hudson, I’ve been asked to remove you from this mall,” Gregory’s deep voice rang out from behind Catherine, and before she could talk, she felt her feet lift off the floor as she was being effortlessly carried out of the mall.
