Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Chapter 16: Chapter 16 After they came back from the hospital yesterday, Ariel immediately escaped into her room and locked herself in.
She was not ready to have any friendly discussions with Aiden.
He’s messed with her brain enough.
The next morning, she planned to leave the house early as usual and avoid meeting with him; that was what she planned to do for the rest of the day, too, avoiding him.
She was glad he didn’t even like associating with her at the company; that would give her some space to think about everything that was happening in her life at this period.
In this kind of circumstance, she was glad they didn’t have each other’s contacts; he must have bombarded her phone with cold and commanding texts, asking her to agree to the babymaking process.
She wouldn’t have minded doing this with him if it were when she hadn’t met him personally, but now, his attitude disgusted her, even though he was hotter than the sun and spicier than chili, she wouldn’t do it.
She can’t risk giving a poor kid such a robotic and unfeeling narcissist as a father.
And her kid, too, no way!
She can’t subject her kind to such suffering!
Ariel slowly opened her door and peeked her face out, looking from left to right.
She sighed when she didn’t see Aiden, believing he was still asleep, she tiptoed down the living room, her eyes searching everywhere as she did.
Ariel rejoiced in her head; the living room was clear, too.
Now she just had to find a way to go through those gates without being sighted by him.
She slowly closed the door behind her, once again rejoicing when she didn’t see Aiden’s car outside, it meant it was still parked inside the garage.
Ariel moved with speed across the compound, not looking back at the house.
She quickly unlocked the gate and stepped out of the compound, she was smiling widely as she slowly closed the gate, feeling giddy over her successful escape.
Honk!
Honk!
Ariel almost lost her footing on the ground as she suddenly heard a car honking behind her.
She widened her eyes, slowly retracting her hand from the gate.
‘No, this cannot be,’ She thought to herself as she slowly turned to face the car.
To her utmost disappointment, Aiden’s car is steaming silently behind her.
Her heart sank.
All those efforts were in vain!
What was his deal this morning anyway?
Why was he waiting for her?
She was still standing frozen, trying to sort out how she was going to handle this situation, when the back door opened, and Aiden walked out of the car, smiling!!!
Ariel moved away as he approached.
Why was he smiling at her so early in the morning?

They both knew they didn’t like each other, so why was he behaving like they were some loving couples waiting to go to work together?
Or, is he a serial killer?
Only serial killers smile at their victims before they kill them.
“Took you quite a while, Darling,” Aiden swiftly wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead, smiling brightly at her.
Ariel was about to push him away when he subtly pointed his head toward his car.
Ariel tipped her toes and looked above his shoulder and found Grandma Nari smiling at them through the wind-down front window.
Ariel couldn’t control her facial features from frowning at the first glance before she quickly gave the old woman a bright charming smile.
She understood what Aiden was doing, just like he did yesterday.
So, she had no choice but to play along.
“Oh, Good morning, Grandma,” Ariel said softly, wrapping her hands around one of Aiden’s arms.
“I’m sorry for keeping you waiting; I was just a little tired and overslept” Ariel explained as Aiden led her to the car and opened the back door for her.
“It’s alright; Aiden said it was his fault; I understand,” Grandma Nari said, smiling.
Aiden entered the car, and Ariel turned to him, confused; she didn’t know what Grandma Nari was talking about.
Nothing happened last night; she had said what she said as an excuse, but she never knew Aiden had already plotted something against her.
Aiden saw her giving him a confused look and suddenly reached out his hand and drew her to himself.
“Grandma, you’re making her shy again.
We were just trying our best to make sure we give you a grandchild, but we ended up doing it over and over again,” Aiden said, holding her hand around her waist.
“What?!
We…” She paused, looking over at the old woman who was smiling knowingly at her.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to be shy, I was once like you.
Young couples never seem to get enough of each other, oh, how I remember my young days…” Grandma said, smiling fondly.
Aiden raised a challenging brow at Ariel, daring her to deny him in front of his Grandma.
“Ah, yes, Grandma, we-we…
we were really, um…
trying, yes, we tried all night,” Ariel nodded, dropping her head against Aiden’s chest and placing her hand beside her head, caressing Aiden’s chest.
Aiden felt her fingers caressing her chest and went still.
He looked down at his chest and found her comfortably resting her head there, his eyes followed her hand and watched her slim fingers tracing across his chest.
He didn’t mean to but he got lost in the movement, wondering why he was seeming to be enjoying what she was doing to him.
She looked so small against his frame, so small he felt like protecting her from the world…
“Oh, dear.
You must be famished, my daughter-in-law.
Gregory, take us to the nearest restaurant; she has to eat for the baby to be healthy,” Grandma Nari said.
Gregory briefly glanced at Ariel and his boss behind the car, “Yes, Mrs.
Chaz,” he replied, his eyes glancing back at the couple behind him before he moved the car.
He never knew there was this kind of soft side to his boss; if he didn’t know better, he would have believed the lies the couple were spewing to the old woman.
The look on his boss’ face was so real as if he was really in love with his contracted wife.
“Do you have anything in mind you want to eat?” Aiden asked Ariel, gently holding her hand against his chest, his warm hand wrapped around her cold, nervous one.
Ariel was surprised by his question, but she came off it quickly.
They were all still in the act.
“No.
I’m not a picky eater,” She said.
“Don’t worry, I know just the right food for women in your condition,” Grandma Nari said excitedly.
‘What was my condition?’ Ariel asked internally.
“Yes, Grandma, thank you,” She replied instead.
“Good job,” Aiden whispered into her ear, patting her hair.
He didn’t know why he couldn’t take his eyes off her since she laid her head on his chest, he lightly squeezed her hand that was enclosed in his, trying to warm her cold extremes.
Ariel frowned as the car moved.
Did he just praise her?
Why?
For playing along with him?
No, she believed he was still acting.
Well, he could keep acting; for her, she was done for now.
She tried to withdraw her hand and move away from him but he held onto her body tightly, holding her hand down on his lap.
“Don’t.
We’re still acting, remember?” He whispered to her, making it look as if he was kissing her cheek.
“Well, I’m done acting with you, Mr.
Chaz.
I need my space,” Ariel raised her face to him as she replied to him.
Aiden smirked down at her, seeing how unaware she was of their position.
His grandma would probably be thinking she was asking him for a kiss.
And he wasn’t about to disappoint her.
He leaned down and briefly pecked her lips, and in the next second, the car dangerously swerved.
Gregory’s eyes widened as the car suddenly braked but then moved smoothly again.
Gregory had caught the kissing scene behind the car and almost lost hold of the wheel.
What was happening?!
Why was his boss going this far with his pretense?
The acting was believable enough.
Now, it was so real that he was even starting to question his knowledge about the couple.
Perhaps they’ve decided to be real?
Aiden’s quick reflexes prevented Ariel from falling.
Ariel found herself wrapped around Aiden’s arm as he had caught her from falling off when the car had braked.
Aiden’s face whispered against Ariel’s ear; his warm breath sent shivers down her spine as he said, “If you try moving away again, I will kiss you for real, little wife.” His smile seemed genuine, but Ariel’s instincts screamed caution.
Gregory’s grip on the wheel tightened.
What was happening?!!
Ariel’s eyes darted toward Aiden, her mind racing.
Had she married a psychotic bipolar cause there was no other explanation for his smooth and swift switching of personalities.
She would tread carefully around him, unsure of what other dangerous personalities lay hidden beneath Aiden’s charming facade.
“Come on, my dear, I’ll select the best food for you,” Grandma Nari went and held Ariel’s hand as Aiden opened the door for her, and proceeded to lead her into the restraint.
