Chapter 212: Chapter 212
Ken walked up to Gideon, who was speaking to Jess with his arm around her waist, his throat contracted painfully, his heart heavy.
‘Have I lost her?’He asked himself.
“Good evening, Gideon,” Ken greeted politely, offering Gideon a handshake.
Gideon was busy looking at Jess’ face as he spoke when he heard Ken’s voice; he had to turn his attention away from her.
“Hi, Ken. Lovely evening, isn’t it?” Gideon shook Ken’s hand.
Jess ignored Ken, busying her eyes by looking around the garden and seeing how people were easily conversing.
“Yes, it is, I was wondering -”
“Here you are, Darling, I thought I lost you for a second,” Rachel’s arm sneaked around Ken’s from behind him, her head placed beside his arm.
She flashed a bright smile to Gideon and Jess, stepping closer to Ken.
Ken felt anger seep into his skin through the wind; his teeth were gritted, and his fists were balled; he turned to Rachel and glared at her.
“Your girlfriend is quite a beauty, Ken; you’re lucky,” Gideon admired.
Ken was stunned. Was no one ever going to hear him speak?
“Why, thank you, you’re so bad yourself, and your girlfriend is a stunner, too,” Rachel returned the compliment with a kind tone.
“Ah, Jess? No, please, I’m not worthy; I’ve had a crush on this one since high school; she’s never deemed me worthy,” Gideon chuckled.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know,” Rachel smiled.
Ken was somehow thankful for Rachel’s presence beside him at that moment, she’d just helped him clarify what was earing him up all this while.
“Maybe you could try harder now, who knows? You might be lucky,” Jess smiled at Gideon.
Ken’s happy bubble was busted; he watched as Gideon’s expression turned ecstatic as he heard Jess’ words.
“Really?” Gideon asked.
“Y-”
“Rachel’s not my girlfriend, Jessica, she’s just a friend who likes to confuse people,” Ken quickly explained.
Jess paused and smiled at him, “Aww, Kenneth, that’s such a mean thing to say to a lady, who you know clearly has feelings for you, isn’t that right, Rachel?” She asked.
Rachel suddenly nodded, happy that Hess was taking her side.
“Good, then make sure you do all you can to make him yours; he might be resisting, but you know men, they like it when you go after them; don’t lose heart, sister,” She tapped Rachel’s shoulder.
“You don’t know that, Jess, Ken might really not be interested in her, it’s just like me back in high school, the more I chased you, the more annoyed you became, sometimes, we have to learn how to take No as No, and not as ‘keep trying, I might change my mind.’ Right, Ken?” Gideon questioned.
Ken nodded, “Yes, that’s correct. Rachel already knows that I have someone I like, and I bet that person knows, too,” He pinned his gaze on Hess, slowly taking her in.
Jess felt her skin tingling with the way Ken was openly gazing at her as if he wanted to eat her raw; she was scared Gideon might realize that Ken was speaking about her.
Rachel’s face contorted in an ugly way when she saw Ken staring at Jess; she cleared her throat and said, “Ken, my feet hurt. Can you take me over to sit down? Maybe a glass of wine would do us both good for the night, what do you think?” Her voice was suggestive as she purred like a kitten.
“I can’t drink, I’m driving,” Ken said.
“Jess, here you are, come on, a few guests have some presents for you,” Jewel came along and held Jess’ hand.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, permitting me to take this goddess away,” Jewel smiled as he gently dragged Jess away.
“Let go,” Ken pushed Rachel away and walked behind Jess.
Gideon was left standing there, looking in the direction Jewel had taken Jess. He suddenly realized that it’s been more than two months since he last saw Jewel.
What has he been up to? He felt kind of bad for not reaching out to him the next morning after he had seen him drunk in a stranger’s arms.
He hoped he was okay; well, Jewel did look okay, so he wasn’t going to wallow in guilt. After all, they weren’t friends.
He sighed and went to find a chair.
After long hours of cool music and socializing, it was time to go home.
Gideon couldn’t believe what he was staring at.
He was standing a little distance away from Jewel and Jess, who were totally wasted, they had a couple of other friends around them that were in the same condition as them.
When did they do this to themselves?
“I’ll drive you home,” Jewel said to Jess.
Jess shook her head, “No way, you’re drunk; I’ll drive you home,” She said.
They paused and looked at themselves and suddenly burst out laughing, “We ain’t going nowhere tonight, we’re drunk as fuck,” Jewel laughed, placing his head on Jess’ shoulder.
“Mmhmm, the grass is just perfect t for us to lie on,” Jess chuckled.
Gideon shook his head and looked around, technically, almost everyone was tipsy.
Aiden and Ariel had long gone with their kid, Viktor too.
So this was typically like an adult open party; very few people still had their brains in check.
He was about to walk toward Jess and Jewel when he spotted Ken and Rachel.
He wanted to save Ken from his clingy girlfriend so he went to propose something to him.
“Hi, Ken, still here?” Gideon asked.
Ken sighed, “Yeah, her,” He pointed toward Jess.
Gideon was surprised that Ken had been observing her, too.
“Wait, she’s the one you like?” He asked with a smirk.
“N-no, h-he doesn’t like her, h-he likes me,” Rachel’s drunk voice stammered from the chair beside Ken.
Ken looked at her and rolled his eyes, “Goodnight, Rachel,” He said and stood from his chair.
“No, you can’t leave me, who’s going to drive me home?” She whined.
Ken shrugged, “I don’t know, you can go back the same way you came,” He replied.
“But I’ll drunk, I can’t drive,” She tried to stand but fell back down on the chair.
“Not my problem,” Ken said and nodded at Gideon.
The men left Rachel, waving her clumsy hands at them to come back and take her home.
“So, you’re taking her home, right?” Gideon asked as they walked over to Jess and Jewel.
Ken nodded, “Of course,” He answered.
“Okay, then,” Gideon paused beside Ken, who was putting his phone inside his pocket so he could lift Jess.
“Do you need help… I guess not,” Gideon saw as Ken easily lifted Jess off the chair in a bridal style, holding her close to his body.
“That’s my crush, man, mind how you handle her,” Gideon pointed at Ken’s hands.
Ken chuckled, “You wish, I think you better take Jewel home, too, goodnight,” He said and walked away with Jess in his arms.
Gideon sighed, “Damn it, why do I have to take him home?” He muttered.
The last time he offered to help a drunk Jewel, he had said that he would never go to his house again and that he didn’t need Gideon’s help.
So, why should he help the ungrateful young man?
He stood in front of Jewel and stared at his face, so innocent and calm, but the moment he opened his eyes, he would become chaos.
Leaving Jewel wouldn’t be a sin; quite a few people were already sleeping uncomfortably on the chairs and tables, so why couldn’t they be one of them?
Gideon blew out a forceful air from his lips to calm his mind; maybe he was feeling guilty because he’d known Jewel to an extent, so leaving behind would seem like a bad thing to do.
He walked closer and tapped Jewel’s shoulder, “Hey, wake up,” He said to him.
Jewel didn’t respond.
“This would be the second time I’m picking you up while you’re drunk, ugh!” Gideon grunted as he lowered himself and lifted Jewel in the same way Ken lifted Jess.
“Damn, you must eat a whole cow as meat, fucking heavy,” He kept huffing and puffing until he reached his car, and after struggling to open his back door, he threw Jewel in like a sacred of potatoes.
“Shit!” He leaned his head on top of the car, catching his breath.
He was going to make Jewel pay him a huge sum of money eyes when he woke up, he wasn’t about to do this for free, no way.
He buffed loudly before closing Jewel’s door and getting in front of the car.
He was taking Jewel back to his place; it was closer; driving to Jewel’s place would take him longer, and he didn’t have the strength after lifting much weight. He needed to go home and sleep off the tiredness he felt.
He knew Jewel was going to go crazy when he woke up and realized where he was, but Gideon was ready for it; he was used to Jewel’s antics, and it wouldn’t bother him.
It wouldn’t bother him or he’d missed Jewel’s antics?
