Chapter 229: Chapter 229
Aiden looked like shit the next day.
He had refused to leave the room, he sat beside Ariel’s bed, staring at her pale face and thinning skin. He didn’t look any better himself; he looked like a fair version of himself: dull, weak, depressed, and unhealthy.
Everyone was worried for the couple.
Jess had managed to convince him to let Jace go home with Grandma Nari, the hospital wasn’t somewhere a kid could make home.
That evening, everyone was present; they were all sitting on the benches in front of the hospital room, waiting for Eva, who had gone in to try and convince Aiden to go have a shower and eat something.
They all had their fingers crossed, the silence in the hallway was deafening, anxiety slowly clawing its way deep into their hearts.
The door suddenly opened and Eva stepped out of the door, alone.
She bit her lips as she looked up at everyone and slowly shook her head.
There was a collection of disappointed sighs; they were already expecting the outcome, and he refused again.
“This isn’t good; at this rate, we have no choice but to sedate him,” Jewel announced.
“Babe,” Gideon whispered beside Jewel.
“I’m not your baby…yet,” Jewel whispered back.
Gideon sighed, “Guys, I think we should let him be; it’s his wife, for crying out loud; what if she d- Jewel?!” He coughed and tapped Jewel’s neck on his neck.
“Why not complete your stupid statement? What if she what? Died? Then what? Huh? Mr. Bad news?” Jewel glared at Gideon.
“He might just be the only one dying from the way you’re strangling him, let him go, Jewel,” Viktor gently pushed Jewel away from Gideon.
Gideon glared at Jewel, frowning, “What is wrong with you,” He removed his face from Jewel, angry.
“Everyone,” Jess called, drawing all attention to her.
She was standing alone beside the bench, her hair neatly packed in a low pony, and her all-black outfit made her stand out amongst the crowd.
“We’re listening,” Jewel replied.
Jess cleared her throat, “We’ve been here since morning, and so far, we’ve been of no help to either Ariel or Aiden. I think we should all leave and never come back,” She nodded her head at the confused faces.
“What do you mean?” Eva asked.
Another voice replied, “We’re only making the whole situation worse. We are putting a lot of unhealthy pressure on Aiden, and we are a constant reminder that his wife’s life is hanging on a thread. As Jess said, we should leave and never come back until we’re called to. Right, Jess?” Moon stood from the bench and walked toward Jess.
Everyone wore a frown. They were not yet accepting of Moon’s return but they couldn’t dispute the fact that her words were very valid.
Jess shrugged her shoulder, “Yeah, that’s right,” She nodded.
“Then, we’ll be leaving,” Jewel stood and stared at Gideon, who was still sulking and reluctant to follow him.
“I said, we’ll be leaving,” Jewel tapped Gideon’s shoulder.
Gideon closed his eyes for a second before standing up, “I’ll see you later, guys,” He shook Viktor and Ken’s hands and nodded at the quiet Gregory before walking ahead of Jewel.
Jess followed suit, not speaking to anyone in the group.
Outside the hospital, Gideon walked right to his car and got into the driver’s side, sitting quietly.
He heard a knock on his window and sighed before looking at Jewel.

Jewel raised his brow, folding his arms.
Gideon rolled his eyes and got out of the car, “Move, I need to walk,” he said, not looking at Jewel.
Jewel scoffed, “Did you roll your eyes at me?” He peered at Gideon’s face.
Gideon shook his head, “No,” He replied.
“I hope so,” Jewel rolled his eyes before walking over to the other side of the car and waiting for Gideon.
Gideon went over and opened the door for Jewel, “Please, enter,” He murmured.
Jewel smiled brightly, “Aww, that’s so thoughtful of you, such a gentleman,” He touched Gideon’s shoulder before getting inside the car.
Gideon kept a straight face as he closed the door.
He walked back to his side, got in the driver’s seat, and shut his door. His hand was about to go to the steering when Jewel cleared his throat, stopping him.
He turned to Jewel and leaned over. He drew the seat belt across Jewel’s chest and clicked it in beside him.
He was about to move back to his seat when Jewel grabbed his hand, “What?” Jewel narrowed his eyes at him.
Gideon didn’t show any expression, “Nothing.” He replied.
“Liar. Look at me then,” Jewel whispered.
Gideon gritted his teeth and looked into Jewel’s eyes; he immediately tried to look away from Jewel’s seductive, but it was too late; Jewel had already placed a hand on the side of his face.
Jewel smirked at Gideon, “See? It’s not nothing; you’re avoiding contact, eyes and body. Why? Are you sulking?” He smiled sweetly at Gideon.
Gideon blinked, “Yes,” He answered directly.
Jewel gasped dramatically, ” But why? Whatever happened?” He leaned his face closer, “Am I by any means the reason for your sour mood?” He whispered.
Gideon nodded, his eyes went between Jewel’s lips and eyes, “Yes, you are,” He replied.
Jewel chuckled, licking his lips, “Because I held your neck? Come on, it wasn’t even that hard; I bet you got hard from that,” he breathed out; his hand moved over to Gideon’s thigh, but Gideon gently slapped it away, surprising Jewel.
He sent Gideon a disappointed look, a pout forming on his lips.
“You don’t have the right to touch me… you’re not my ‘babe’ yet,” He smirked at Jewel and returned to his seat.
Jewel frowned, “Oh, so that’s what this is? Fine. We’ll see. I’m not going home with you, drop me wherever,” He said, leaning into the seat, huffing.
“Gladly,” Gideon replied and drove the car away from the hospital.
Five minutes into driving, he looked over at Jewel and found him sleeping; he scoffed and rolled his eyes before allowing a huge smile to mask his face.
“Crazy,” He muttered.
He was driving to his home, which was where Jewel had been living for over a week; Jewel was aware that there was no way Gideon would drop him off the streets; he just wanted to irk Gideon up and watch his reaction, and Gideon knew that, too.
Gideon loved Jewel too much to ever leave him alone, no matter how long it would take for Jewel to accept him as his boyfriend, he would wait; after all, he never planned on loving anyone else.
He reached his house and removed his seat belt before leaning over to remove Jewel’s own.
“Baby,” He whispered close to his face.
“Mm?” Jewel hummed, sleepy.
Gideon smiled, “We’re home,” He said.
Jewel nodded and slowly opened his sleepy eyes, “I told you to drop me wherever,” He sounded very tired.
Gideon smiled at Jewel’s stubbornness, “I know, and I brought you home,” He caressed Jewel’s face.
Jewel removed Gideon’s hand from his face, “I’ll go in just because I want to sleep, I’ll leave after that,” he said and got out of the car.
Gideon immediately left the car and hurried over to Jewel, wrapping his arm around his waist and walking him inside the house.
He had just made Jewel pay on the bed when his phone started to ring, he quickly left the room and answered the call from Jess.
“Jess?” He asked.
“I would love to know what’s going on between you and Jewel, but that’s not why I called. Ariel’s up, and no, you don’t have to come, Aiden’s not even with her, Just Carla. She doesn’t need to see anyone at the moment; I just wanted to keep you informed, and no, you don’t have to call; he doesn’t know yet. About Jewel, we’ll talk about that later,” She ended the call.
Gideon stood in his living room and played everything Jess had said in his head. Ariel was awake, but Aiden wasn’t aware; how possible could that be?
He wished he could really go see her, but he couldn’t since Carla asked for no visitors; he couldn’t tell Jewel either, he would ignore Carla’s words and march back to the hospital.
He sighed and slumped down on his sofa. Ariel might be his boss, his friend, but she had also become her family, and it was so with everyone.
Her two days of unconsciousness had weakened everyone’s spirit; somehow, she was the pillar of their relationship and even their relationships with their partners; somehow, they had found their lovers through Ariel.
Worried was an understatement of how they felt during that period. He was glad that she had finally recovered; it was a huge relief for them, and he couldn’t imagine how Aiden must be feeling; the man was barely living.
He sighed tiredly; hopefully, everything would turn out better from here on… hopefully
