Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Ariel was currently sitting beside Jess in the cafeteria.
She was quiet while Jess chatted about her latest designs and how some newbie took it to Aiden to complain that it wasn’t good enough.
Ariel knew who that ‘newbie’ was, but she was too lost in her head to reply to anything Jess was saying.
“Ariel, are you listening?” Jess waved a hand in front of Ariel.
Ariel slowly blinked, “I’m sorry, Jess, I think I just need some rest,” Ariel replied apologetically.
Jess sighed.
“Tell me the truth, when I suddenly entered Aiden’s office, both of you were about to kiss right?” She narrowed her eyes at Ariel, searching her face for any lies.
Ariel bit her lips; she knew she couldn’t lie to Jess.
Jess had seen her almost kissing Aiden.
After Aiden had told her that he made love to her because he wanted her, she had felt her resolve melt away, feeling as if they were on one page for the first time, she also realized that her feelings for Aiden ran deeper than she thought, and she was curious to know just how deep that feelings went.
She had let her guard down and was about to kiss Aiden when Jess suddenly interrupted them by barging into Aiden’s office, causing her to slip away from Aiden’s hold.
She knew something had changed between them, and it wasn’t just because of the sex; it felt like something only the both of them could explain only when they realized and accepted their feelings.
When did the feelings grow?
Everything was a surprise to her.
Aiden had never treated her nicely, neither had he wooed her as a man does to a woman.
So, where did all the feelings develop?
Was it just because of his handsome face?
Or because he is the first man except her father that she’d lived with?
Ariel was confused, even Aiden’s feelings confused her more.
Did he love her or not?
His words contradict his actions.
His actions since last night want to force her to believe that he might be grooming a very deep feeling for her, but his words still showed how careful and withdrawn he was to those emotions, leaving her trying to fix the puzzles together, and it caused her great headache.
“I see it in your face, just like his…you both have fallen for each other,” Jess smiled at Ariel when she still didn’t reply to her question.
Ariel quickly blinked and shook her head, “No, no, that’s not it, you’re misunderstanding,” She waved her hands in denial.
Jess chuckled, “Don’t worry, your secrets are safe with me.
After all…it’s my ship,” Jess winked and stood from the table, taking her cup to fill it with coffee.
Ariel sighed; she couldn’t convince Jess, for she knew that Jess was very sure of what she had seen in Aiden’s office.
“Oh God,” Ariel covered her hands over her face.
She was tired, tired of everything.
She didn’t think she was capable of going through these new dynamics of emotions with Aiden; it was exhausting.

It was simpler when they were just following the contract, and as it stands now, she was going back to how things were between them, she didn’t care anymore.
Wherever those feelings came from, they would return to their source; she didn’t want to explore them any further; the short, exhausting drama was enough to show her how strenuous it would be if she decided to test the waters with Aiden.
No, that was never her initial plan, so there was no way she was deviating from her plan.
“Look who we have here,” Before Ariel could turn to look at the person who had spoken behind her, she felt someone’s hand slap down hard on her shoulder and forcefully turn her around.
“Hello, best friend,” Eva was behind the girl who had her hand pressing Ariel down on her seat.
Ariel knew this would happen; she had been expecting Eva to come and attack her after finding out she worked in the same company as her, and not just the same company; she was working as the boss’ secretary.
She knew Eva; she wanted to be one who was close to Aiden, and seeing her in that position would be killing her inside.
She knew no one knew about her marriage to Aiden, and she would keep it that way.
She just had to find a way to avoid Eva and her fake friends.
“Let me go,” She said to the girl holding her shoulder.
Ariel thought she’d be scared out of her skin when next she saw Eva, but it seemed like the initial shock had worn off, and she surprisingly felt like Eva had no effect on her anymore.
She felt like she was ready to face Eva and her stupid drama, and was so ready to put her in her place when she stepped out of line.
But she was going to be very careful with her; Eva was as scheming as her mother, so Ariel wouldn’t want to indulge herself in situations that might expose her identity as Eva’s stepsister or cause her to lose her job.
“No one’s letting you go, bestie, why?
Are you not excited to catch up with me?” Eva stepped forward and gently tapped the girl’s shoulder who was holding Ariel.
“Move, Abbey,” Eva ordered.
Abbey glared at Ariel before stepping away to make space for Eva.
Ariel quickly stood, not wanting Eva to lay her hands on her.
She stood in front of Eva, naturally taller than her without high heels.
“So, how are you enjoying your marriage, dear friend?” Eva sneered, wanting to mock her emotionally for settling with a nobody.
Ariel widened her eyes in shock; she was surprised at how Eve got to know about her marriage, had the news managed to get into the wrong ears?
She didn’t know how to reply or deny, where was she going to start from?
“Oh, don’t worry, you don’t need to answer,” Eva scoffed, walking around her and sneering at her.
“You must be ashamed to let people know what a useless husband you married,” Eva laughed.
She turned to Abbey and said, “She’s so pathetic that she agreed to marry a disfigured man just to pay for her useless mother’s debts, and now, she’d so shamelessly come here to seduce Mr.
Chaz, unfortunately, Mr.
Chaz can never waste his time with such a dirty pig,” Eva and Abbey burst out laughing, mocking Ariel for her supposed condition.
Ariel frowned as she heard Eva’s words.
She was confused for a second, but she suddenly remembered the discussion she overheard her stepmother having with her father that night before her kidnap happened.
They had been talking about marrying her off in place of Eva to pay their debt.
So, this meant that they had somehow managed to know that their depth had been paid off, but they weren’t fully informed about who she had married.
That was good then, Eva could keep wallowing in her foolishness.
She decided to leave the psychos and find her way to Jess so they could leave together, but the moment she took a step to the side, Abbey drew her back, hitting her side roughly on the edge of the table.
“Argh!” Ariel screamed from the unexpected pain but immediately tried to remove the girl’s hand from her arm.
“Let me go, Abbey, I don’t want any problems,” Ariel warned, twisting Abbey’s fingers painfully so she could release her hold on her.
“Stay put, you bitch!” Abbey raised her leg and stomped her heel into Ariel’s foot.
“Argh!
What is wrong with you?!” Ariel angrily pushed Abbey off her, glaring at her.
“What?
That bitch dared to push you?” Eva fueled Abbey’s anger from the side, wanting to use her anger and achieve her goal of hurting Ariel.
She knew there might be cameras everywhere, so she couldn’t risk being the one doing the actions so that when they went back to the camera, she wouldn’t be the one who was found guilty.
Abbey heard what Eva had said and got angrier; she marched forward and raised her hand to slap Ariel, who was busy frowning down at her bruised leg.
“Hey!
What’s going on here?” Jess was returning to their table and saw someone trying to slap Ariel who was unaware and quickly went and held the girl’s hand.
“And who do you think you are?” Abbey angrily pushed Jess aside, causing the hot coffee she was holding in her other hand to spill on her clothes.
“Serves you right for meddling in people’s business,” Abbey sneered.
“Oh for God’s sake, what is wrong with you, Abbey?” Ariel was about to move toward Abbey but Jess held her back, shaking her head at her.
Eva was about to say something belittling when an elderly female staff at the cafeteria quickly ran over to Jess with a napkin.
“Oh no, what have you girls done?
Do you think it’s fun playing tricks on the boss’s cousin?” The woman asked with a frown as she offered to wipe the coffee off Jess’ shirt.
Eva’s face turned ashen and Abbey was frozen in place.
Cousin?
They never knew she was Aiden’s cousin; they would have never even crossed her path, but now, they were in big, deep trouble.
“Thank you, Grace, but you don’t have to worry, I’ll just watch it up at home,” Jess smiled at the lady and took Ariel’s hand, “Come on, let’s go,” She said and gently led Ariel away from the two dumbstruck girls.
“No, no, wait, I’m sorry, please, I never knew you were Mr.
Chaz’s cousin, I was wrong, please, forgive me,” Abbey was the one who ran over to Jess and held her arm, begging her.
Jess sighed, but before she could reply, Eva came and drew Abbey away from her.
“Stop trying to hurt her, Abbey, haven’t you done enough?!” Eva asked, staring worriedly at Jess.
Ariel was watching in shock, just when she thought she’d seen all of Eva’s dramas, she proved her wrong and showed her another crazy side to her.
“Eva!
It was you-” “Oh no?
Look how awful your clothes look right now.
I’m so sorry about this; I can buy you new clothes right away,” She stood in front of Jess and offered to take her with her.
“Eva, have you no shame?” Ariel asked, surprised by how fast Eva threw Abbey under the bus and was trying to suck up to Jess just because she discovered that she was Aiden’s cousin.
“You, stay away from this,” Eva pointed at Ariel.
“What’s going on here?” Aiden’s voice sounded from the entrance, causing everyone to turn their heads to him.
