Chapter 49: Chapter 49 Chapter 49: Chapter 49 After driving around aimlessly to clear his head, Aiden got home late that night and went right into his office.
He saw the covered food Anna had placed on the dining table for him but he didn’t look at it for the second time.
Hungry?
No.
A heartbroken man doesn’t feel hungry.
As he sat on his chair and stared at the dark screen, he remembered the first time Ariel had come into his home, into his office, this was the same place he had typed and printed the contract, and now, he had been the one who tried to cross the line between them.
He never thought he’d be the one who caved in first and asked the same girl he had scorned severally for a chance at love.
He chuckled softly, shaking his head.
But, was he really the one who crossed the line?
He highly believed that Ariel’s feelings had changed at some point, too.
He didn’t just start liking her out of nowhere, or was he the one who started it first?
Well, it didn’t matter anymore, whether it was her or him; it was of no use any longer.
He smiled sadly at himself; what had he even been thinking?
He had let himself become delusional.
Women never loved anyone.
It was good that Ariel was kind enough to tell him the truth, instead of pretending to accept his feelings and using them to get what she wanted from him.
Then, in the end, when he must have been head over heels for her, she would heartlessly dump him and go be with whom she loved.
It’s good it happened; it was a wake-up call to him; he was almost fooled.
How could he easily be forgetful of what happened between his parent?
She wanted to follow the contract right?
Fine, then she was about to see the real meaning of a contract marriage.
He was going to stop caring about everything concerning her, she no longer existed to him, and he no longer cared if his rules were fair to her or not.
But he knew one thing, whether she liked it or not, she was going to carry his child before their contract expired, he didn’t give a fuck if she wanted to or not, it’s what the contract stated, and since they were following the contract, then, she should be able to fulfill her part.
He was too distracted to work, so he just sat there, staring at his screen while his mind ran wild with several frustrating thoughts inside his head.
He decided to waste his time inside the office just so he could avoid meeting Ariel while she was still awake.
He didn’t want anything that’ll ever make him speak to a heartless woman like her.
He didn’t blame her, he blamed himself for being carried away, and this was a lesson to him.
He was going back to his normal cold and distant self.
After three long hours of sitting and doing nothing, Aiden stood from his chair, ready to leave.
He was sure Ariel must have slept, now he could peacefully go in and get a change of clothes.

He quietly walked out of his office, not wanting to wake his Grandma, who he was sure was fast asleep in her room by that time of the night.
He walked up the stairs and went straight to his room.
Aiden took a deep breath as he stood in front of his door; why was he suddenly feeling anxious?
If there’s something he had realized about himself, it would be that Ariel had managed to make him do things he’d never done, like hiding away from a woman and feeling anxious like a teenager who was about to face his unrequited love.
And it annoyed him, he hated that she still affected him even when he’d made up his mind not to give a shit about her.
But not for long; he would show her just how useless a woman was to him.
He gritted his teeth and pushed open his door, but, he hadn’t even stepped properly into the room when he noticed something off.
Why was the bed empty?
He brought up his wrist and checked the time on his expensive watch: it was 12: 30 a.m.
He frowned and walked in, closing the door.
Maybe she might be in the bathroom.
He had come to realize that anytime she went missing, it was always the bathroom.
So, he didn’t bother checking her up; he took his time to change out of his clothes and lay on his side of the bed; he hoped he would have fallen asleep by the time she came out.
But he couldn’t sleep; he’d been tossing and turning for thirty minutes, but still, no one walked out of the bathroom.
He slowly stood from the bed and walked toward the bathroom.
It wasn’t as if he cared; he was just doing what any normal human would do if they were faced with the same predicament.
He couldn’t just let someone drown in his bathroom; if the news got out, it’d surely tarnish his image.
He didn’t want that; he didn’t want anything that would slow his business down.
He quietly knocked on the bathroom door but got no response.
He knocked again and still got no response.
“I’m coming in if you still do not answer, Ariel,” He warned coldly.
After getting another silence as a response, he got frustrated and pushed the door open, his eyes instantly scanning the bath, but when he didn’t find her in there, he looked around the whole place, and again, she was nowhere to be seen.
He walked back out to the room, an uneasy feeling starting to stir up in his stomach.
He quickly left the room and walked over to her initial bedroom, pushing it open without thinking…
No Ariel.
He became uncomfortable, panic starting to set in his chest.
Where was she?
After she had walked away from him, he didn’t go after her; he had watched her walk away until she became out of sight, and then he had angrily driven off in the opposite direction.
Could she have been kidnapped?
Killed?
He felt his extremes turning cold just by thinking about the worst-case scenarios; how was he going to explain it to Grandma Nari if Ariel was really missing?
He shouldn’t have let her go, he should have tried to bring her back home instead of leaving her alone in the street.
He quickly thought of where she could be and immediately remembered someone.
Eva!
Ariel said she was her long-lost best friend; maybe she had run to her like girls did after a breakdown or something.
But he didn’t have her contact, how was he going to reach her now?
He quickly walked back to his room and grabbed his phone from the bedside table.
He quickly dialed Ariel’s number but he was informed that the number was switched off.
Frustrated, he pushed his fingers through his hair, his heart racing.
He paced the room as he kept trying the number and he kept getting the same message.
“Fuck this!” He kicked the side of his bed, welcoming the pain as it suited his raging heart and mind.
“Where the fuck did you go, Ariel?” He whispered.
Again, he thought of Eva.
He was still trying to figure out how he would reach her when he remembered his manager, Anthony.
Of course, he’d have her details, he just needed to call him and ask him to send it to him.
He quickly searched for Anthony’s contact, but before he could press the dial, a call came in on his phone.
Ken was calling.
He thought of dismissing the call so he could call Anthony first but he didn’t, sighing, he answered.
“What is Ken?
I don’t have time,” Aiden spoke coldly.
Ken sighed through the phone.
“Relax, Aiden, I’ve not called for trouble,” Ken replied calmly.
“Then speak, Ken, I’m in the middle of something urgent,” Aiden blurted out.
“Well, Maybe, my information might calm you down…or not…” Ken paused.
Aiden didn’t say a word, he was waiting for Ken to finish.
“Ariel is with me,” Ken informed quietly.
Aiden frowned, his heart feeling as if someone was using a heavy hammer to hit it continuously.
“What did you say?” He asked quietly.
Ken sighed again, “I said, Ariel is with me.” Aiden nodded, gripping his phone tightly.
Just great.
He shouldn’t have bothered, actually, he should have been able to guess that Ariel would run off to the person she loved after rejecting him.
A whore.
That’s what she was, playing two men at the same time.
“Hello?
Aiden, did you hear me?
I just wanted to tell you so you don’t go panicking and looking for-” “Panic?” Aiden scoffed.
“I wasn’t panicking, Ken.
You already know she means nothing to me.
But, just a friendly reminder; you better not trust her with your heart, she’s a whore,” Aiden said bitterly and ended the call before Ken could reply.
After ending the call, he angrily threw his phone on the bed and plopped down beside it.
He put his elbows on his thighs and buried his face in the palm of his hands, breathing heavily and controlling himself from shouting to release his anger.
He couldn’t believe he had wasted his time worrying about a stupid whore.
She had no shame, running off to his best friend after sleeping with him was just the perfect whore move.
He was imagining what she would be doing with Ken by that time of the night, probably snuggled up in bed with him or probably…
He couldn’t even let the image develop in his head.
Just last night, he had held her in his arms, and now, she was in another man’s arms.
Whatever, he didn’t care who she ran to or who she was fucking.
But why was his heart hurting?
He was hurting so bad.
