Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Jess was sitting in front of Ariel, oddly quiet.
That evening, they were in a park, sitting aside and watching others enjoy their walks with either their loved ones or children.
Ariel had been the one to call Jess and invite her out.
She needed somewhere to go since she couldn’t be in the same house as Moon.
She had refused to leave after Aiden asked her to be friends with her; Moon became coy and started to sit beside Aiden, leaning her body against his at the slightest opportunity she got.
That wasn’t what Ariel wanted for her mental health; she hated it when it was very obvious how manipulating someone was yet there was someone who refused to see that part of her.
It irritated her to the core, so instead of staying in the house and watching something annoying, she preferred to come out to the park and breathe the fresh air and enjoy the good sights too.
Just, she never knew that the person she had invited to join her and enjoy the scenery would be acting like a zombie.
Jess has been sitting mute for ten minutes, staring into space as if there was something she was trying to see in the air.
“Okay, that’s enough, I’m going home,” Ariel slapped her hand on the table and stood up.
Jess was startled by the slap on the table, “Huh?
Oh, no…” She stood and grabbed Ariel’s hand.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.
I was rude, sorry about that,” She gently pulled Ariel back on the bench then she lowered herself beside her.
Jess sighed heavily and forced her brain to focus on Ariel’s face before her.
Ariel was staring at Jess weirdly; something was wrong with her, Jess was always so chatty, so what happened?
“Damn, I’m sorry, I’m such a mess,” Jess rubbed her hand over her face.
Ariel watched her carefully and noticed that Jess had some heavy eye bags around her eyes, like someone who’d gone without sleep for a long period or someone who’d cried her soul out.
“Okay, here’s what, I wanted to ask you about me, but right now, I think I need to ask about you.
What’s the problem, Jess?
You look like an amateur Zombie,” Ariel asked seriously.
Jess chuckled quietly, “That’s cute…amateur zombie…” She muttered to herself.
“Hey, I’m being serious, you have to tell me what or who got you in this condition,” Ariel spoke sternly.
Jess slowly nodded, “Well, how should I say this…” She paused and stared at Ariel.
“Just say it how it is, Jess, I won’t judge, and I won’t complain,” Ariel replied.
“I slept with a guy I shouldn’t sleep with.
Now, I’m going to lose him, both as a friend and as a crush, I fucked up,” Jess shrugged.
Ariel was quiet for a second, then she said.
“Did he say he doesn’t want you?” Ariel asked quietly, she needed to understand the whole story before she could console Jess accordingly.
As long as she knew, Jess and her crush were both adults, they must have reached a kind of agreement before or after sex, so Jess being this way meant that the guy had gone back on his words or had already stated it but because Jess likes him, she agreed and now she’s suffering.

Jess scoffed, “It would have been bearable if he simply said he didn’t want me.
You should have seen his face, he was disgusted by me, and he warned me never to tell a soul about what happened between us,” Jess informed.
Ariel slowly nodded, “But…before, you know…were the both of you sober?” Ariel carefully asked.
Jess shook her head.
“Damn, that’s the problem,” Ariel said.
“But, hey,” She held Jess’ hand.
“Fuck him, okay?
His loss,” Ariel smiled.
“His loss?” Jess asked quietly, looking at Ariel’s face.
Ariel nodded vigorously.
“Yep, his loss.
Have you looked in the mirror and seen what a gem you are?
Nah, trust me, he’s gonna come begging on his knees; just, pick yourself up, and…” Ariel leaned over to Jess and whispered, “Dress to kill.” She winked at Jess.
“Trust me, when a guy sees you’re living your best life without wallowing in the thoughts of him or what he did to you, he becomes automatically attracted to you, because trust me, men like confident women, it’s sexy,” Ariel encouraged.
Jess smiled a little, “That’s true…” She chuckled.
“He’ll be mine in the end, just like Aiden was yours in the end,” Jess wiggled her brows at Ariel.
Ariel widened her eyes, “Hey, how did you know?” She narrowed her eyes.
Jess shrugged, “Well, someone happened to be very excited and sent his favorite cousin a message saying that his wife now loves him back…” Jess replied.
Ariel couldn’t believe her ears, “Aiden did that?” Jess nodded, “You see, I told you he’s not a bad person, he’s actually a cutie when you get to know him.” Ariel smiled, “Tell me about it,” Her voice was dreamy as she replied.
“Eww, alright, enough, you’re going to make me puke with that look in your eyes.
Why did you even leave the house in the first place?
You should have just stayed there and cuddled each other,” Jess complained with a pout.
She was glad Ariel invited her out, if not, she would have still been at home, bawling her eyes out.
Ariel sighed, “Well, I had to leave.
I couldn’t stand the sight of that evil sister of his,” She replied.
Jess frowned, “Moon is there?” Ariel nodded, “Remember what you said last night, about her wanting to spike Aiden’s drink?” She questioned.
Jess nodded, “Yeah?” “She did it, and before I could get to the parking lot, the car had already driven off.
Luckily, I got a lift from Jewel, but when I got home, she had already taken him up to his room and was about to undress him, but I was just in time to stop her,” Ariel narrated.
Jess had a frown on her face as Ariel explained everything to her.
“That shameless bitch, did you slap her?
Please tell me you at least left one hand on her cheek; if not that would sadden me more than the rejection from my crush,” Jess asked seriously, expectantly looking at Ariel’s face.
Ariel chuckled, “I did slap her…twice.” “Yes!” Jess bounced on the chair, the evening breeze blowing her hair around as she moved.
Ariel was laughing, “Trust me, I would have been depressed too if I didn’t slap her.
God!
She’s so annoying,” she complained.
Both of them burst out laughing, holding each other’s hands.
“But, hey,” Ariel called.
“Mm?” Jess responded.
“About last night, though.
When you stopped me from entering that room, who was in there?
Do you have any idea?
Because Moon seemed very shocked to see me back at Aiden’s room last night, that meant she had really set me up,” Ariel questioned in a serious tone.
Jess fell silent, she looked away from Ariel, thinking of how she was going to reply without giving herself away that she was lying.
She didn’t have a problem telling her she slept with a random man, but it wasn’t a random man, she didn’t want to make Ken look like a bad person.
She knew Ariel regarded him as a good guy and friend, and telling her it was Ken who hurt her would completely change the way Ariel saw Ken, and she might even end up hating him.
She didn’t want that, she didn’t want anyone hating Ken.
She knew he was angry about what she did, and rightfully so.
He had taken her as a kid sister, and she had gone around and done that to him.
But, at least, she was still better than Moon who wanted to sleep with her legal brother.
Ken was not related to her in any way, not by blood, not by papers, and not even by agreement, so she wasn’t entirely guilty of seducing a sibling or family member.
But she could not just let Ariel know that Ken was the one.
“Hey, Jess, answer me,” Ariel gently shook her.
“Oh, I- I don’t know…
when you left, I went straight to you know…the guy…” She didn’t hold Ariel’s gaze as she lied to her.
“Oh…that makes sense…that means…” Ariel stood.
Jess stood too, “What are you planning to do?
You look like you have something planned,” She asked.
They slowly started to walk around the park, the bulbs hanging on the trees were starting to get brighter as night fell.
“She thinks she’s smart, for her to deny it means she had found someone to clear the records, but she can’t guess what’s coming to her,” Ariel spoke in a foreboding manner.
Jess stiffened for a second.
“Do you mean…you’re planning to retrieve the deleted videos?” Jess asked, her heart pumping loudly in her chest.
If that was what Ariel meant, that means her lie would be found out, and she and Ken would be caught doing it.
“Yes, Jess, I need to make Aiden see that Moon is not as innocent as she claimed to be,” Ariel replied.
Jess bit her lips, “Yes, that’s the right thing to do…but, it’s hard to see who could retrieve a deleted video, and even if you found someone, the money involved is whooping.
Are you sure you want to do it?” Jess questioned, trying to dissuade Ariel.
Ariel chuckled, it wasn’t time to tell Jess about her other qualifications, but she’ll soon know.
“Don’t worry about that, Jess, the video will be recovered – Hey, look it’s Ken,” Ariel pointed ahead of them.
Jess immediately froze as she looked and saw Ken casually walking with his leached dog beside him.
“Let’s go over and say hi,” Ariel held Jess’ hand and dragged her over.
“Um, wait…
Let’s, uh…” Jess was about to try and escape when Ariel made it impossible for her.
“Hey, Ken!
Nice dog!” Ariel loudly called over to Ken, making him turn his head to them.
‘Fuck my life,’ Jess sighed as she felt Ken’s eyes on her for a split second before he focused on Ariel.
“Good evening, Princess, out for a walk?” Ken greeted, walking over to the girls.
He was suddenly uncomfortable in Jess’ presence, but he tried to appear normal.
That evening was going to be such an awkward one…
