Chapter 96: Chapter 96 Chapter 96: Chapter 96 Jess was sleeping soundly, the comfort of the bed was different, but she liked it; she wasn’t feeling like getting out of it.
After a while longer, she slowly yawned and opened her eyes.
“Huh?” She murmured when she saw that she wasn’t in her house.
“Oh…” She smiled and lay back on the bed.
She remembered driving herself over to Ken’s house after the meeting was over.
His house was closer so she decided to crash at his.
She was glad he allowed her, she would have been too tired to drive home last night.
She slid her hand under the pillow and took out her phone.
The moment she turned it on, she remembered what she had been planning to do last night before the sleepover took her.
“Ariel, you need to see this,” Jess giggled and sent Ariel a video she took last night.
There was suddenly a knock on the door which got Jess sitting up in bed.
“Coming,” She answered and slowly got out of bed.
She ran her hand through her hair as she walked toward the door.
She wouldn’t want him to see her looking un-kept.
She took a deep breath and opened the door, plastering a sweet smile on her face, “Good morning, Ken…oh…” Jess blinked, her smile faltering.
“Good morning, Ms.
Jessica.
I’m sorry, Mr.
Ken left very early for some important meeting,” The older lady informed with an apologetic smile.
Jess shook her head, “I’m sorry, Dorothy, I should have known he’d gone to work, I’ll just get my stuff and be out in a minute,” Jess replied.
“No, um, he didn’t ask me to rush you; he just asked me to prepare you some breakfast, which I’ve done, please do come and eat,” Dorothy smiled and left.
No way!
Jess closed the door and quickly grabbed her purse off the table.
There was no way she was going to sit in a man’s house and fool herself by sitting her ass down and eating comfortably when the man in question had left a subtle message of not caring about her.
She knew he didn’t have any meetings to attend; he just wanted to avoid her.
She guessed she was wrong in assuming things were moving somewhere after that night he dropped her off at her house.
After the kiss, he had remained quiet until he reached her house, and when he dropped her off he had told her to have a good night.
She thought that him, not objecting to the kiss was his way of accepting her confession; it turns out it was his way of not making her feel bad about herself.
She walked out of the door and reached the living room, looking from her left to her right. She smiled as she realized that Dorothy was inside the kitchen, this was her time to run.
She carefully tiptoed out of the house and into her car.

As she drove out of Ken’s home, she felt stupid for even thinking about coming here last night; now look what she brought upon herself; being avoided by a man was the worst thing any woman would want to face.
“I fucked up, I know it,” She scoffed and sped her car into the bustling morning streets.
*** In Eva’s house, she lay in her bed, her shoes were the only items that were taken off of her last night’s outfit.
She groaned painfully and turned to her side, her head was pounding painfully, making her wince before she even opened her eyes.
“You’re finally up, get up and tell me why you ended up like this,” Catherine’s voice sounded beside her bed.
Eva winced more; her mother’s voice served as an amplifier that amplified the drumming sound inside her head.
“Stop…talking…” She murmured.
Catherine stared at Eva in disappointment.
She couldn’t believe her daughter would be lying in the house that morning instead of being in Aiden’s home or some hotel with him, probably carrying his child by now.
“Get up, Eva, tell me why you’ve decided to disgrace me,” Catherine’s voice was more firm this time.
Eva frowned.
“Huh?
Disgrace you?” She asked tiredly.
Catherine sighed.
“You’ve failed, once again, to carry out a simple mission such as getting one man to sleep with you, I’m starting to believe that Ariel is really smarter than you…” Catherine scoffed.
That got Eva’s eyes flying open.
“What do you mean, Mom?
Never compare me to that bastard.
You know I’m way better than her,” Eve frowned as she fought the pain in her head.
“If you were better than her, why aren’t you the one who’s his secretary?
Why aren’t you the one closer to him?
Huh?” Catherine questioned.
“And, if you were better than her, why are you the one having a scandal in the company?
Do you think he’d still want you after you kissed his bodyguard?!” Catherine lost it and scowled at Eva.
Eva sprang up from the bed and stood in front of her mother, “What?!
What scandal?
Kissed whose bodyguard?” She questioned anxiously.
Catherine brought out her phone and showed it to Eva.
“No way!” Eva whispered, shaking her head.
She was staring at the image of herself wrapping her legs around Gregory and holding his head firmly with her hands as she smashed her lips against his.
“This isn’t real, this was photoshopped!
Someone’s fabricating me, Mom, it must be Ariel!
It’s her!” Eva moved back from the phone.
Catherine scoffed, “Quit looking for someone to always put the blame on and own up to your mistakes.
Did Ariel frame you?
There are different videos of this online with different angles.
I might not be a Gen-Z but I do know when an image or video is edited, stop trying to insult my intelligence.
Ariel is not learned or powerful enough to create a fabricated image or video of you within the small space of time,” Catherine informed and placed her phone down.
“No…” Eva was trying hard to recall when that happened, how did she get to that point without realizing it?
“Eva, I’d like to remind you that we don’t have much time.
Your father is drowning in debt, and soon, it will be made public; we will soon become the laughingstock of all socialites; our titles shall soon be taken away from us, and we will be thrown into the mud as if we never mattered.
You know how irrelevant people without money are treated in our world; you have treated them that way too, and I promise you, my dear daughter, you don’t want to be on the receiving end, it’s not fun,” Catherine reminded in a foreboding tone.
Eva was pressured.
All her mother said was true.
The Chaz weren’t the only ones her parent were owed.
They loved such lavish lifestyles that they owed a debt to almost everyone they’d done business with, it was catching up on them now.
“This is a critical time; we no longer need you to make Aiden fall in love with you; all we need is for you to carry his child, by any means possible,” Catherine narrowed her eyes at Eva.
Eva suddenly gasped.
“I remember…Jess!” “Jess?” Catherine asked.
Eva nodded, “Yes, Mom.
As you said, this was a critical time, no one needed to wait for Aiden until he fell in love with me.
So last night, I had planned to spike his drink with an aphrodisiac, and I did.
But somehow, Jess, Aiden’s cousin, found out and switched our drinks.
Yes, she switched my drink with Aiden, that bitch!” Eva was bitter as she recalled how Jess had casually chatted with her as if everything was alright.
She never knew that cunning bitch had somehow managed to switch the glasses of wine behind her.
“I see, that explains your unruly behavior with the bodyguard,” Catherine thought out loud.
“But I almost had him, Mom, if that bodyguard didn’t interfere.
I would have been Mrs.
Chaz by now,” Eva bragged.
“Nearly cannot kill a bird, baby,” Catherine replied.
“Remember, if that bitch conceived for that useless and unknown Chaz, then we’re doomed, we’d stand no chance against her.
You have to hurry and don’t worry, Mummy’s planning something awesome with Abbey; before the weekend, Ariel will have no womb to carry any child,” She laughed sinisterly.
Eva slowly nodded; she didn’t care about whatever her mother was planning to do with Abbey, as long as it stopped Ariel from giving the Chaz family the first heir.
She was going to up her game, she was going to use any means possible to get Aiden.
It was time she used the card Moon gave her, she was using every means she had to get close to Aiden.
“Don’t worry, Mom, I have the right support to get close to Aiden,” Eva said with a smile.
“And what’s that?” Catherine asked curiously.
“His sister, Moon.
Surprisingly, she likes me and even suggested that I marry her brother; we’re winning this Mother; just relax,” Eva assured.
Catherine’s face lit up, “Really, Moon Chaz?
Wow, this is awesome, then what have you been waiting for, give her a call!” She urged.
“That’s not all, Mom; Aiden had also invited you to meet with his grandma, on Friday.
I’ll tag along of course, in case he wants to ask me to marry him,” Eva giggled.
“Aiden asked me to meet with him and his Grandma?” Catherine asked quietly.
Something didn’t seem right with that invitation.
She had been avoiding meeting Grandma Nari since the day they received a message telling them that their property was still at risk unless Ariel gave them an heir.
Had the old woman realized that the girl they had kidnapped wasn’t the known Hudson daughter as promised?
And now she wanted to ask that her daughter must be the one who married the unknown son.
Something didn’t seem right about this invitation.
CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Rosegold_n What if…just, what if we give Eva a redemption arc?
Not now, but later in the story?
