Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Chapter 98: Chapter 98 “That’s…horrible…inhumane…” Ariel muttered, staring into space as she slowly dropped her fork on the plate in front of her.
She slowly turned to look at Aiden beside her.
He had a lost look in his eyes, and she immediately knew that recalling such a traumatic past wouldn’t be easy on him.
“Hey, love, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it anymore; we can take it slow,” Ariel shifted her chair close to him and placed her hands on his thighs.
Aiden smiled but it didn’t reach his eyes.
He shook his head and placed his hands over Ariel’s on his thigh.
“Don’t worry, it’s been years, I just never knew I’d hate the woman all over again as I recall every detail,” He chuckled darkly.
Ariel sighed.
“What kind of a mother does that to her child?” She mumbled.
Aiden shrugged.
“She wasn’t a mother.
A mother is a title that she didn’t deserve.
Anyone can birth a child, but not all have the compassion and love to be a mother.
Emily…wasn’t a mother, she was just an object to bring me into the world, a surrogate, but my dad was too blinded by love to see that,” Aiden explained.
Ariel was quiet.
He was right, not everyone can be a mother.
Now, the reasons for his initial behavior toward her were very clear: his past trauma wasn’t letting him move on and open up to people, especially to women.
“I’m really sorry, Aiden,” Ariel spoke softly.
Her heart beat for him, an eleven-year-old boy, going through all those messes.
“But, you’re Dad…what happened to him?
Is he alive?” Ariel asked cautiously, hoping her question wouldn’t open more of Aiden’s old wounds.
Aiden smiled, “He’s alive, traveling the world for years now.
But he almost died, though; Emily almost succeeded in killing him until I spoke up.” Fifteen years ago…
One month later after Aiden was locked up by his mother.
A week ago, his father was diagnosed with stage II Colon cancer, and Aiden was scared out of his skin.
He remembered the dark promise his mother made to him that she’d make sure she killed his father soon so that she would inherit all his property.
Aiden felt like he was losing his world, he didn’t want his father to die and leave him alone with that monster of a mother.
He was a child, but he was a smart child.
With the way things were unfolding, he knew his mother was responsible for his father’s illness.
He suspected her of poisoning him with something.

She always claimed to be a loving mother who wanted her child around her whenever his father was around, but in reality, she just wanted to keep him around her so he wouldn’t get the chance to expose her to him.
He’d noticed numerous times whenever she was making him food or drinks, there was always something like a tea bag which she normally took something from and added it to his father’s food and drink.
Aiden had thought it was just one of the women’s cooking stuff which he never understood, but as he thought of everything right now, he started to see that it wasn’t as he thought it to be.
Emily has been poisoning his father.
Aiden was determined to expose his mother at all costs.
That day, his father was in the living room with a few guests to discuss his recent business and projects while he was in the kitchen with his mother as usual.
He was sitting on a stool beside a table as he watched her pour wine into the glasses on the tray.
He didn’t remove his eyes from her; he watched carefully as she put her hand in her pocket, took out the substance in the White tea bag, and emptied it into one of the glasses.
The substance dissolved clearly inside the glass, leaving no particles or residues.
The drink was still as if nothing was done to it.
He waited patiently for her to throw it in the trash as she usually did, and she did.
Today, he wouldn’t ignore her again.
He was starting to be thankful to her for making him stay beside her all the time.
She thought he was a dumb kid, who couldn’t figure out anything, not anymore.
Aiden sat still, in a few seconds, Emily would leave the kitchen to do whatever it was she normally did inside the storage.
As predicted, Emily turned to Aiden and said, “You know the rules, no moving till I return, understood?” She asked, glaring at him.
“Yes, Emily,” He replied.
She had asked him never to call her Mom when they were alone, and Aiden even wished he could just keep calling her by her name even in the presence of his father, but that would raise suspicions, he just had to keep dancing to her tunes until he found a way out of this bondage called life.
Emily smiled and nodded.
She gave him one last look before she walked toward a door at the corner of the room.
Aiden was anxious, he knew she stayed in there only for one minute, and sometimes, she came out earlier.
He needed to take the bull by the horns.
He slowly jumped down from the stool he was sitting on and listened in for any movement; when he heard her shuffling some bags inside the storage room, he knew she was still busy in there.
He slowly tiptoed toward the trash, his heart hammering with each noiseless step he took.
He reached it in no time and quickly bent over to search for the white teabag; luckily, there wasn’t much trash in there; he easily spotted it and put his hand in there, grabbing his target, and quickly returned to the stool the same way he came.
Aiden was startled a bit as the storage door flew open the moment he sat back on the stool.
Had he been caught?
“Come here, Aiden,” Emily ordered in a cold tone.
Aiden gulped quietly and slowly slid down from the stool, subtly pocketing his evidence behind the pocket of his shorts.
“Yes, Emily,” He answered in a small voice as he stood in front of his mother, near the kitchen counter.
“Do not disgrace me, now, take this tray carefully and carry this drink as poise as you can and serve it to your father’s guests,” Emily instructed harshly.
Aiden gulped quietly and nodded, “Yes, Emily,” He responded and turned toward the counter.
He was thankful that Emily didn’t catch him sneaking toward the trash; he’d have been dead by now.
He gently carried the tray of drinks and carefully walked out of the kitchen and toward the living room.
He used his leg to push the door open, feeling the shadow of his mother behind him.
He walked toward the center where his father and his guests sat on their huge sofas.
“Aiden!
Look how tall he’s grown,” A man sitting beside his father commented, smiling at Aiden.
“He has the father’s height and the mother’s beauty,” Another man commented from the next sofa.
Mr.
Chaz smiled, “Easy there, son,” he stood and helped Aiden place the tray on top of the table.
“Thanks, Dad,” Aiden smiled at his father.
“Welcome, gentlemen,” Emily’s voice sounded behind Aiden, and in the next second, he felt her hand on his shoulder.
“Hello, Mrs.
Chaz, been a long time,” The man beside Mr.
Chaz smiled at Emily.
“You’re so lucky, Chaz, you married a damsel,” Another man praised.
Aiden watched as his father smiled at Emily with hearty eyes; he felt pain in his heart.
Why would a human be so evil to the extent of planning to kill another?
“Come, Darling, come sit with me; I was just telling them that I wanted to put you in charge of my fashion branch in Paris; what do you think about it?” He gently held her waist and walked her to the sofa, not forgetting to hold Aiden’s hand as he did.
“Oh my God!
Really?!
Darling, you’re the best!” Emily screamed in excitement and hugged Mr.
Chaz, placing kisses on his cheeks.
Mr.
Chaz was smiling nonstop while the other men stared at them in admiration.
Everyone admired the relationship between Mr.
Chaz and his wife, but only Aiden knew that Emily was only but a con artist, a viper, and a devil.
“Yes, Darling, I’d do anything for you,” Mr.
Chaz replied.
They settled on the sofa and the men started talking and drinking.
Emily had directly handed Mr.
Chaz his drink, smiling sweetly at him as she did.
Aiden was tensed all over.
His father hadn’t sipped his wine, which was a relief for Aiden, but he didn’t know for how long.
He felt like an accomplice sitting and watching his father drink a poisoned drink.
Aiden watched as his father slowly started to raise his glass to his lips; his heart was rapidly beating; his palms became sweaty and his eyes were blinking inappropriately.
Just as his father was about to place the drink in his mouth, Aiden faked a heavy sneeze and bounced off the chair, slapping the glass away from his father’s hand.
