- Chapter 128 - Chapter 128 An angry little sister
Chapter 128: An angry little sister Chapter 128: An angry little sister “W-Why would I ever do that?” Kellen stuttered, and the Captain grinned at him.
He shrugged, his eyes warm and yellow, and Kellen had to look away from his face. The elevator opened, and the two of them headed down the hallway that connected the two sets of elevators.
Kellen was distracted by his own thoughts, so he jumped nearly a foot when someone slammed on the glass window beside them. Turning, Kellen was met with the hard expression of his sister.
She had her face pressed against the glass, and it was clear she had been looking for him.
Even Gunther, who seemed exasperated by her display, wasn’t chastising her.
She pointed towards the door, and Kellen winced. Swallowing, Kellen turned and without glancing at the Captain, headed for the door.
Out of pettiness, Gwen didn’t even open the door, just stood next to it with her arms crossed. Thankfully, the Captain already had his keycard out before Kellen had to try to fumble with his own.
His arm reached past Kellen and touched the keypad.
Kellen tossed a grateful look back at him, and the Captain smiled. Opening the door, Kellen wasn’t sure what to expect from his younger sister.
After all, this whole situation was something she had predicted, and warned him about.
But that didn’t mean she was happy about it. Gwen reached out, planting her hand on his shoulder.
Her grip tightened and Kellen did his best not to wince. “You are a fucking mother fucker for not calling me as soon as the video broke.” She growled, and Kellen winced.
He sighed, placing his hand on top of hers but she yanked it away, as if his touch burned.
He frowned, staring at the ground. “I found out just before the end of the day.
Then, I was busy doing damage control.
I didn’t even message Mom and Dad.” She scoffed.
Kellen looked up and she had her arms crossed again, her eyes hard.
They were also glowing purple. “Oh I know.
I had to hear alllll about it last night.” Kellen felt awful.
He knew how bad their lectures could get.
“Are you a fucking idiot?
On video?
Do you even have a brain?
Never record your crimes!” Her voice was loud in the quiet room and Kellen sighed. “In court it would not stand a chance.
I was clearly in the right.” She rolled her eyes at her dumb brother’s words. “For the first half, maybe.
But breaking someone’s arm!
On camera?
Kellen, Mom raised you better.” She sighed, a piece of her soul in the sound.
“Why do you always have to do the most extra shit ever!
It’s always you!
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
I never get to have any fucking fun!” Stunned, Kellen stared at her. You wanted to go in and break a bunch of rogue Guide’s bones?
Gwen, I hate to tell you, but that’s a hate crime coming from an Esper.
That carries a very serious sentence.” Gwen narrowed her eyes at her older brother, before she dismissively waved a hand. “I wouldn’t get caught like you, and the satisfaction would be worth it.
Were they really not even guiding in that situation?” She asked, and Kellen felt his anger surge inside of him.
Gwen’s eyes went wide.
She blinked, and unfolded her arms to reach for Kellen’s face, turning it to each side.
“Kellen, your eyes are glowing sky blue.
Holy shit.
I didn’t know that happened when you felt strong emotions.” The Captain reached for Kellen’s shoulder and turned him, pulling him out of Gwen’s grip.
He stared at his face, his eyes going wide. “That’s hot as well.” He told him, and Kellen wasn’t sure if that was supposed to be an inside thought or not. “No, that’s a problem!
You need to keep that under wraps, Kellen.
Others will think you’re a monster if you start flaunting that.
It’s kinda known that A Class Guides have glowing eyes, but no one but Espers have seen that.” She was clearly concerned, and trying to look out for her older brother.
Kellen, however, found it very fitting.
Kellen turned to the Captain who was already starting at the Guide. “Oh that’s perfect.
I guess we’ll match then, Captain.
A monster Guide, for a monster Esper.” He grinned, unrepentant as he looked up at the Esper.
The Captain didn’t react for a moment, not even blinking, before he closed his eyes and took a deep, long inhale. Worried that he’d upset the Captain, Kellen gave the hand he still held a squeeze.
“Was that the wrong thing to say?” Kellen asked softly, and the Captain shook his head.
When he opened his eyes, the gold shimmering shade took Kellen by surprise. “No, Mr.
Woods.
I am just trying to be respectful since not only do we have an audience, but your sister is here.
You get rather embarrassed if others witness us.” Kellen’s mouth fell open.
The Captain’s gaze was hot on Kellen, especially since he wasn’t raising his gaze from Kellen’s lips. Kellen closed his mouth and swallowed.
He turned to Gwen who was watching the two of them with a calculating gaze.
She had uncrossed her arms, and was resting her hands on her hips instead. “I am glad to see that your relationship is progressing without any road bumps.” She said dryly and Kellen opened his mouth to protest when the Captain covered his mouth with his free hand. “Oh, there are plenty, we just keep those till we are alone.
Right, Mr.
Woods?” Kellen wanted to argue with him, but his hand was quite firm on his mouth.
He glared at him instead, and his face softened.
“See?
He agrees.” He told Kellen’s sister, who stared at them for a long moment before smiling. “Well, not my problem.
I try not to think of my brother being anything but a Field Guide.
Not even a pair.
If I think too hard, I want to throw up.
No offense meant, Captain Thatcher.” The Captain’s expression was happy as he shook his head at Gwen’s barb. “None taken, Gwen.” She gave a cheeky grin, before turning a glare towards her brother. “You!
I’m fucking pissed.
How dare you insult me by not contacting me.
Call Mom and Dad asap.
Mom was inconsolable when she heard they might take you to court over it.” The Captain snorted, his grip tightening on Kellen’s mouth slightly. “They have no legs to stand on.
With the amount of Espers who could be witnesses to their lack of guiding, and the Espers who now have guiding trauma, plus the whole video itself, the case would get thrown out.” Gwen shrugged. “I’m not book smart like some of y’all.
I’m all brawns, no brains.
Kellen got all of those, and even then, it wasn’t much.
Dad kept it all to himself.” Kellen rolled his eyes.
“That’s all I know, and Mom seemed pretty upset.
Anyway, I should get back to class otherwise Lieutenant Gunther is going to drill a hole into my head.
I’ll see you later, Asshole!” Gwen ran away, flipping Kellen off as she did so and Kellen shook his head, the Captain’s hand still over his mouth. The two of them watched her join the mix class, and Kellen noticed the scowl on the faces of the older recruits.
Because their special outing was canceled because of the gate and the scout party ‘coming back’, they were back to being treated the same as the newer recruits.
As a Guild they were going to have to address the attitude issue soon, as even Ian, the one Esper of the older recruits, was getting snippy. It had surprised Kellen to know that Ian, despite being a little shit, was a good older mentor to the younger crowd.
As the two of them watched, Ian helped Gunther run the class.
Actually, it was Gwen and Ian who were helping out the most, which only made Kellen wonder if Ian’s brother had been a part of the anti-guiding shit that the Guides had done. Kellen grabbed the hand on his mouth, and the Captain glanced down at him.
He tugged, and the Captain relented, letting him uncover his mouth. “Captain, did you investigate yet if Ian’s brother, the one who surged in Guiding Center B, was linked to the guiding issue?” The Captain seemed surprised that Kellen brought it up.
“No, we haven’t.
I’ll add it to the list of things that need to be looked into.” Not waiting for Kellen’s response, he pulled out his phone and messaged someone, probably Hill, before slipping his phone back into his pocket.
He turned to smile at Kellen.
Kellen stared up at the man, unsure why he was watching him.
That only made the Captain smile more, before he leaned forward and pressed a kiss against Kellen’s forehead. Flustered, Kellen covered the spot he’d kissed, furrowing his brow as the Captain laughed.
The Captain waved at Gunther, before tugging on Kellen’s hand and leading him towards the entrance. “We should get moving.
I don’t want to panic Pamela more than she already is.” He murmured, and Kellen picked up his pace.
He didn’t want poor Pamela to have a heart attack, or outright attack him.
She had seemed capable of doing so the previous day. CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Thank so much for reading!
