(BL) Hunting The Field Guide - Chapter 181
Chapter 181: A man in power?
Hot Chapter 181: A man in power?
Hot The Captain, who had been chatting to Hill and Gunther in between Kellen and Casper, was surprised when Kellen’s hand touched his arm and moved him to the side.
When he saw the direction that Kellen’s gaze was, he felt a grimace touch his lips.
Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to Hill, sure he was going to know all about what was about to happen.
Kellen wasn’t paying attention to him though, and instead was trying to call Taylor with one hand.
Raising the phone to his ear, he heard the phone ring twice before she picked up. “Hey, I know I just left and it’s the end of the day, but can I ask you for a favour?” “What’s up?
You sound so serious.
Did your ‘talk’ with the Captain get too heated?” She teased. “It’s Casper.
Can you bring up a bunch of shakes to the conference room and do a check up on him?” Kellen heard the creak of a chair over the line before the sigh hit his ears. “That dumbass.
Alright.
I was just about to leave for the night, but I’ll be there shortly.” She hung up just as Casper caught sight of Kellen out of the corner of his eye.
His already sallow and pale skin paled further. “Uh, Kellen!
So great to see you.
I heard you weren’t feeling well yesterday.
Are you doing any better?” Kellen was pissed that the man was even asking about him given his own personal state.
Casper tried to get up, but Kellen was already there.
Kellen’s hand gripped his shoulder, and Kellen could feel his bones easily.
Casper stayed seated. “Are you a fucking moron?” Kellen demanded, and Casper shut his mouth.
“Brent is taking better care of himself than you are.
Do you want to die?” Kellen’s harsh tone was undercut by Kellen’s tense, worried expression.
Casper opened his mouth to respond, before he closed it.
He took off his glasses, rubbing his eyes as he sighed. “No one can replace me.
It’s my responsibility to take care of the Guides and to also guide Espers.” It wasn’t a full excuse on Casper’s part, since part of it was true, but Kellen felt his anger rise nonetheless. “Bullshit.
You’ve outright refused my help every time I’ve asked.
You also have been avoiding the medical team, haven’t you?
Since you know that they would put you on bedrest.” Casper flinched, and Kellen felt his anger swell.
Trying to keep it under wraps, he let out an angry sigh.
“This is why I went above you and asked the Captain to let me help you.” Casper’s mouth flopped open like a floundering fish. “W-What do you-” “I’m taking over.
I’m finding replacement Guides.

You yourself admitted you were too busy to do it, and since I’m not on the front lines, I have free time.” Kellen’s gaze was hard and angry as he stared down at his fellow Guide.
“You need to learn to rely on us, on me, Casper.
I’m not an Esper, I understand exactly what you’re going through, but that doesn’t mean that I am going to allow you to work yourself to death.” Kellen ran his hand over his face, angry at the state Casper was in.
“How the hell did they let you get like this?
Wasn’t there another training camp where most of the younger Espers were off so that you and Brent could recuperate?” Someone cleared their throat behind Kellen and he turned to glare at the three most powerful people in the room. Kellen narrowed his eyes, and the Captain was the first to raise his hands. “Hey, we did try to stop him.
He wouldn’t let us.
Anytime we tried to approach him to force him to rest, he would guide us.” Hill said, raising her hands as well.
Kellen frowned, now understanding why she looked so unwell this morning.
When Kellen slid his gaze to Gunther, he didn’t look much better, which was strange. Gunther was supposed to get guiding from outside of the Guild so why did he… A light went off, and Kellen wanted to growl at the idiots. The only person who looked fine, in fact, better than fine, was the Captain.
Kellen released his grip on Casper’s shoulder since he knew the man couldn’t go anywhere, and ran both of his hands over his face. He was going to have to deal with this personally, but there was a clause in their pair agreement that Kellen was afraid that the Captain was going to be upset about him breaking.
Fuck, he’d just have to ask. “Captain, I’m going to have to break a part of our pair agreement to deal with this situation, but I won’t if you don’t give me permission.” Rhys stared at him, his eyes warm, before he grinned. “Well, I appreciate you asking, Mr.
Woods, but I wouldn’t have gotten mad at you even if you hadn’t asked.
Given the situation.” He winked, and Kellen felt his cheeks flush at the sudden action, and he was surprised at how his heart raced at the simple gesture.
The Captain’s attention was pulled elsewhere as an Esper approached him with a problem, and Casper tried to use this moment to protest.
Kellen’s glare had him closing his mouth again as Kellen yanked Hill down into the empty seat next to Casper.
He took her hand into his, giving it a squeeze. Surprised, Hill let him do it, and she stared up at him in surprise.
“Kellen?” She asked, and Kellen stared down at her. “I’m doing emergency guiding.
As of right now I am using my authority as the pair of the Captain of the Saturn Guild to shelve Lieutenant Casper of all of his Guide duties.
He is not to perform any of such duties until Esper Green gives him a clear bill of health.
Casper, you are dismissed.
Go home.” Casper’s jaw was on the floor at Kellen’s stern and harsh tone.
Kellen cursed.
“Fuck, wait.
Ms.
Green is on her way with shakes, and to do a check up on you.
You are to leave after she’s done so.” Kellen’s tone held no room for negotiation, even as he still held Hill’s hand as he loomed over the two lieutenants.
Casper was stunned. “Uh, Kellen, I’m fi-” “If you don’t follow my orders, I will call my Father and have him come and pick you up and he will take care of you.
Am I clear?” Casper was frozen in place, too shocked to speak. Honestly, Kellen shouldn’t respect his wishes even in that regard.
Having his Dad take care of him would ease some of Kellen’s worries.
Guides were notorious worry warts, and Casper and Kellen were not exempt from that. “Kellen, I-” Casper tried again and Kellen felt a noise come from deep within him.
It felt a bit like a growl, and Kellen didn’t notice how the Captain’s head jerked in his direction. “Shut the fuck up Casper.
If it isn’t obvious to you, I am being kind by wording this the way that I am.
It is an order, not a suggestion.” Still holding Hill’s hand, Kellen leaned closer to Casper, his eyes narrow.
“No one likes someone who can’t follow orders.” It was a threat, and Casper knew it. Casper seemed stunned that Kellen would ever speak to him like this.
Hell, the whole room seemed stunned to see this side of him.
Well, everyone but Hill and Rhys.
Hill seemed to be in her glee as she watched Field Guide Woods at work, while the Captain’s gaze had dipped into a dangerous golden shade.
It seemed like everyone else were holding their breath, waiting to see what would happen next. It wasn’t until Taylor came in wheeling a large cooler that the mood shifted. “Ah, there’s the little dumbass.
Hello Lieutenant Casper.
I see it took Kellen hunting you down for me to finally be able to check on you.” Taylor’s tone was nice and flowery, but when you looked into her glowing, green gaze, there was nothing but a predator behind those eyes.
As she placed the cooler next to the sick Guide, Casper swallowed.
“If you attempt to guide me while I check up on you, I have a feeling Kellen here is going to mete out a severe punishment.” Kellen nodded as Casper’s gaze slid from Taylor to him.
Casper’s throat moved as he swallowed again. “I…I really have no choice in this, do I?” He muttered, and Kellen scoffed. “Yeah, keep being this stubborn and you’ll die.
Do you want that?” Kellen demanded and Casper ducked his head.
He didn’t say anything, and that was enough of an answer for Kellen. Taylor began her examination and Kellen turned back to Hill.
Taylor would let him know if Casper pulled any funny business, but now it was time for Kellen to get to work.
Thankfully, he had more than enough energy to guide several Espers right now, and with a firm mouth, he turned to Hill who was looking at him in confusion. “Do not reject my guiding, Hill.” Kellen warned, and she nodded before Kellen began.
Thankfully, Kellen was quite compatible, especially after Kellen had jumped up in Classes.
That meant he was able to tend to her multi-headed sunflower with ease, watching as the withered flower slowly began to spring back to life.
Taylor’s gentle tap on his shoulder told him 15 minutes had passed, and when Kellen opened his eyes, he was happy to find that Hill looked much better. The colour was back in her cheeks, and she didn’t look as tired as she had before.
She gave Kellen a squeeze to his shoulder, before pushing up and getting back to work.
Kellen then turned his gaze to his next target.
A man who hadn’t taken his gaze off of where Taylor was holding Casper’s hand as Casper sweated nervously.
