Chapter 187: Lured in with soft touches and warm food Chapter 187: Lured in with soft touches and warm food The few hours that Kellen spent at the counter working away on the files he now had in his possession felt like they passed in minutes. Part of the reason was the smiling, happy man beside him.
Ever since he had sat down and got ready to work, the Captain had been extremely helpful and attentive.
He got Kellen water, tea, honestly anything he needed. As soon as food arrived, the Captain fed him so that Kellen could continue to work uninterrupted.
When Kellen asked him why, he told him it was because he felt guilty for the fact that he was doing work outside of what he was hired to do. Kellen was pretty sure that was only part of the reason.
The other?
The man didn’t keep his hands to himself.
All the time he was helping Kellen he kept a firm, but constant touch on him.
He had to make sure some part of him was touching Kellen, always making skin contact of some kind. A part of Kellen felt like this was some kind of training, and he wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
The Captain had muttered about it before.
The problem for Kellen?
He was growing flustered because he was pretty sure the training was working.
He craved the Captain’s touch. The work itself wasn’t difficult, just time consuming.
It was mostly stuff that Kellen had done when he had worked on the front lines.
At least, in the sense that it involved a lot of Guide speak, and the work wasn’t meant for a small group of Guides, and instead a whole Guild. Looking and working through what Casper had ‘given’ over, Kellen was surprised by how much work he was actually doing.
It made Kellen regret not contacting his Father to look after Casper. The damn idiot was working himself into an early grave.
The worst part?
The people who cared about him probably had no idea either.
Casper struck Kellen as the kind of guy who kept everything close to his chest.
And there was also the way the others had spoken about him when Kellen had first joined the Guild.
They talked about him like he was a flaky kind of guy. That just wasn’t possible with how much work he was doing. “Everything okay Sweetheart?” Kellen jerked, the soft sound of the Captain’s sweet voice near his ears causing his heart to race.
Kellen turned to meet the warm, yellow gaze of the man who had been carrying for him for several hours.
Melting, he sighed, and shook his head. “It’s nothing.
I’m just realising Casper is a very important part of the Guild, and saying I could take over for him was pretty bold of me.” Shifting on the stool he had pulled up so that he could be right beside Kellen, the Captain chuckled.
He wrapped his arm around Kellen’s waist and leaned in to kiss his neck.
Kellen shivered but leaned into his touch.
That seemed to surprise him as he froze for a second, before relaxing into Kellen and sighing. “Well, it might have been bold, and sexy, but I’m sure you can handle it.
Are you still able to do what you wanted to do tomorrow?” He asked, curious.
Kellen groaned, leaning into his touch further for comfort and the Captain relaxed further. Clearly, he had been waiting this whole time to get permission to touch touch Kellen, and now that Kellen was leaning into his touch, he had given him the green light. “Mostly?
I originally wanted to get all of them done in one day, but now I’m going to have to break it up over two days.
It’s disappointing, but not anything I can’t work around.

It would be faster if I had a car, but since I-” “What do you mean you don’t have a car?
Use one of mine.” Rhys interjected and Kellen blinked.
He turned his gaze to the Captain, stunned. “I-I couldn’t.
You have such-” Rhys gripped Kellen’s jaw, forcing him to shut up and meet his yellow gaze at the same time.
His face had fallen into another stern expression.
Kellen felt he was getting that a lot recently. “Kellen.
Everything I own is yours, understood?” Kellen felt his breath hitch at the way he said it.
He was being bossy, and unmoving.
Kellen swallowed.
He nodded slowly, and was rewarded with a quick, but intense kiss.
“Good.” Rhys murmured against his lips, and Kellen felt his head sway. Holy shit.
What had the Captain done to him?
Blinking, still in a daze, Kellen scrambled to gather himself again.
He had momentarily forgotten how rich the Captain was.
How much wealth he could have access to.
Kellen dropped his gaze again, swallowing. “I just…” He trailed off as when he looked up again, the Captain’s gaze had hardened. “You just what?
What’s wrong with everything that is mine is yours?” Rhys asked, and Kellen could think of several things.
One, they were a pair, and just started a romantic relationship.
They weren’t married, and what if things went south?
It wasn’t as if that was something Kellen wanted to happen, but relationships were complicated. Rene was a good example of that. Two, Kellen believed that if you worked for your own money, you should have full control of it.
His parents didn’t share their money, at least not in the way that some couples did.
They had two separate accounts, and one joint account.
They only transferred money there when it was needed.
They had drilled it into Kellen and Gwen from a young age to never let another force them to share their bank accounts.
It was a lesson that had stuck with Kellen. Kellen hummed and hawed over what to say, and how to say it without hurting the Captain’s feelings.
He just knew that if he tried to voice it he wouldn’t get it right, at least not right now.
Thankfully, the Captain was being generous and was giving him quite some time to think and respond. “I…What if I scratch one of your cars?
They have to be worth more than what I get paid here in a year.” That was saying something.
This was the most Kellen had ever gotten paid for a job. Kellen watched as the man who had a grip on his waist eyes’ widened in surprise, before Rhys burst into laughter.
He buried his head into Kellen’s shoulder, making both of them shake until the laughter died from his lips.
When he looked at Kellen, there was a sparkle in the depth of his yellow gaze. “That’s what you’re worried about?
Oh, my sweet little Guide, don’t even worry your pretty little head about that.
If the worst comes to pass, I have insurance and you are already roped into all of my plans for my cars.
But, I would never get angry at you if something happened.
They’re just cars.
Just status symbols.
I only care if you get around safely.” Shifting, Kellen watched a light go off behind his eyes and he grew suspicious.
“Should I get you an old mom van so you can feel safe?
Or should I get a car that’s basically a tank?
That might actually be a good idea.” Kellen grabbed both of his cheeks, similar in the way Rhys had silenced him earlier as Kellen’s cheeks warmed. “You already have enough cars, you don’t need more!” Kellen protested, squeezing the man’s cheeks.
Rhys’ eyes warmed and Kellen grew flustered.
“I also don’t feel comfortable with you buying me a car.
That’s too much money.” Kellen protested.
Rhys removed his hands from his cheeks, and Kellen looked at him to find him smiling at him.
Slowly, warmly, and Kellen grew worried. Rhys placed his hands on top of Kellen’s, turning one over so that he could press a kiss against his palm.
Over and over. “Sweetheart, I can tell that you are already uncomfortable with this kind of talk, and I am about to make you more so.
Do you know how much money I make as the Captain?
Or how much a gate even costs?
Are you aware of how much power you have access to as my pair?” His tone was soft, cajoling, but that didn’t make it any easier for Kellen to wrap his head around.
Kellen could feel he was going in over his head rather quickly. Licking his lips, Kellen stared at him, trying to process his words, but he’d met his cap for the day.
Especially when it came to complicated things related to him, money, and power.
Kellen had a max for how much he could process when it came to that. Feeling his body fill with fuzzy, warm feelings, Kellen could tell his gaze was wandering without the soft groan that came from Rhys.
Kellen knew his gaze had dipped to the Captain’s lips, and he licked his own lips again.
He shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to kiss him, should he?
He was supposed to be finishing up his work, but with the Captain’s hands on him, and the way that his breath was accelerating, he knew the two of them were crashing fast. Flicking his gaze back up to Rhys’ eyes, he found the golden gaze that he knew spelt a good time staring back at him.
He bit his lip.
