Or a mummy?
Chapter 252: A lost little…lamb?
Or a mummy?
“What on earth are you talking about Brent?” Kellen asked, getting to his feet and wincing.
His thigh, honestly, didn’t feel as tight as yesterday.
It might have something to do with Rhys massaging the cream that Taylor gave him into it before they’d started the day, but he’d also like to think he was slowly healing. “Exactly what I said.
A little lost lamb is at reception.
He had your card, but that was it.
He told them that you told him to come.
Because they don’t know him from a random stranger on the side of the road, and we’re on high alert.” Kellen’s eyes widened as he realised who it might be. That was quick.
They usually ruminated for a little bit longer before Kellen saw hide nor hair of them.
But, it came at a good time.
He was happy if the kid came to them.
Even if he planned to put him to work, it would be nothing like what he’d experienced. That being said, he was going right to Taylor before any other Esper even saw him.
The boy needed a full check up from someone he trusted. Kellen grabbed his cane, watching as Brent made a face just watching him and Kellen chuckled. “Get used to it, Brent.
Before I throw a fit and smash a chair over your head.” Brent scoffed, placing a hand over his heart.
He made sure to open the door for Kellen though as they approached. “I am hurt!
I didn’t even do that to you.” Kellen slid his gaze towards him as he passed him, a smile on his lips. “And I’m not you, am I?
I am, apparently, considerably more violent.” Kellen winked and Brent flushed. “Fuck.
You can’t flirt with me like that.
I’m going to tell Captain Thatcher that you were seducing me!” He whined and Kellen shook his head, laughing. “I was not seducing you.
I was comforting you.
Those are not the same thing.
It says a lot more about you then it does about me.” Brent pouted, rushing to open the next door for Kellen. “No.
Your version of consideration is very Esper coded.
It’s a wonder more haven’t fallen head over heels for you.
Thank goodness the Captain is so powerful, or else you’d be kidnapped on a daily basis.” Kellen chuckled. “I’m only injured right now, and I’d fuck up this injury in a second if it meant I didn’t get kidnapped.” Kellen warned, and Brent glanced around.
It was clear he was checking to make sure no one else was listening, but Kellen had a feeling it was already too late. “Kellen, I don’t think that would stop anyone.
You’re too…nice, most times.” Kellen sighed, before reaching into the back of his pants, where he normally kept it and pulled out his gun.

Brent’s eyes went wide as Kellen stopped, showing him it was loaded, before making sure the safety was on and then tucked it back into its holster back there. “Brent, do you really think I’m as defenseless as I look right now?
I’m going to get offended.
I’ve never treated you this way.” Brent’s cheeks flushed and he scratched his cheek. “Fuck.
Sorry.
I’m still…working through it.” He muttered as they got to the elevators.
Kellen glanced at him, at the way he was slightly crumpled in on himself.
It was clear he was beating himself up, and Kellen didn’t like it. When they stepped into the elevator and had pressed the button to the lobby, Kellen reached for the man and wrapped his arm around his neck.
He used the wall of the elevator to keep himself upright as he nuggied the other Guide. Brent was sputtering, yelling as he tried to get Kellen to stop, but he only had one arm at the moment.
Kellen was laughing heartily as Brent complained about his hair, trying to grab and smack Kellen hard enough to get him to stop. Kellen only stopped when they got to the bottom floor, releasing Brent to grab onto his cane, his sides aching from his laughter and Brent’s slaps. “You’re a demon!” Brent accused as he tried to fix himself in the reflective mirror inside of the elevator.
Kellen made his way out, a grin on his lips. He hoped the kid hadn’t minded waiting.
He’d been in a meeting and it wasn’t a power move in the slightest.
Kellen scanned the area, taking in the jungle-like interior, the several Espers who were in full Guild uniform in the lobby, and the tense, almost fearful energy here. It was very different from the lobby he remembered. One of the receptionists was the first to see him and got to her feet, her eyes wide. “G-Guide Woods!” Her words had several people turn towards him and Kellen felt his back straighten.
It was clear that he was a topic of great concern, and he couldn’t blame them.
He was, after all, the reason the Guild was on high alert in the first place. He watched as another receptionist’s face relaxed, and she gave a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness.
We were so worried that you weren’t able to walk.” There were three of them in total, and all of them seemed to be greatly relieved that he was okay. It was then that Kellen realised he hadn’t shown his face outside of his usual haunts.
That probably had more people concerned.
From this point on, he’d make the choice to go to places he didn’t normally to ease other’s minds.
If it was to ease their minds, he could do it.
Especially when the fearful atmosphere changed as soon as everyone realised it was him. “Thankfully, Esper Green is quite skilled.
Thank you for your worries, though.” Kellen told them with a smile.
“Now, where is the person who had a card from me?” He asked as he approached their desk.
Of course, he’d been scanning the area, trying to find his small back amongst all of the well built and taken care of Espers.
One of the girls pointed towards a lone figure on one of the couches.
Kellen didn’t assume it was him because he was bundled up and looked about twice the size he’d last seen him. “That’s them over there.” She looked doubtful, but Kellen had that feeling in his gut again.
He knew it was him and he gave a wave to them as he made his way towards him. “Thank you for your concern, everyone.
I do know them.” Kellen told them but that didn’t soothe them in the slightest.
They didn’t know Kellen had a gun on him, and he wasn’t going to tell anyone if he didn’t have to. He could hear Brent sputtering from behind him, and with a smile, Kellen headed towards the small, basically a child on the couch waiting. He was fiddling with his fingers, muttering quietly to himself.
He was wearing several jackets, and had a big bag that looked like it held everything he’d ever owned.
Honestly, it should have surprised Kellen more, but it didn’t.
The boy had been taking clients when he should have been standing up for himself instead.
There was no way he was going to quote his rights as a Guide when they attempted to fire him from his position. Kellen frowned.
He had hoped he wasn’t going to have to call Rene, but this felt a lot bigger than him.
He would have to get her to speak to the kid, get his vibe, and see if he would even be able to handle it if they had to take this to court if the fuckers didn’t back down with a settlement. Knowing the lady he was working on getting fired, she wouldn’t.
She’d take this poor kid all the way, rack up his lawyer fees, and try to take him for everything he was worth. Kellen was going to have fun ruining her career. “Hello.
Are you the one who said they were waiting for me?
Sorry for the long wait.
I was in the middle of a meeting.” Kellen spoke softly, calmly, using the tone he’d perfected at Guiding Center B. When the boy looked up, Kellen could tell that he’d been hit several times.
Kellen steeled himself, his hand clenching around the top of his cane.
The smaller boy’s eyes widened and he quickly got to his feet. “O-Oh no!
I’m so sorry!” He quickly dropped to the floor, his sudden movements halting even Brent who was approaching behind them.
He was shaking as he lay on the floor and Kellen wondered what he was doing. “You had nothing to do with this.” Kellen told them, and he wouldn’t raise his head.
He was still shaking. “T-They warned me that something bad would happen to you if I went with you.
I didn’t think it was going to be so soon.
I-I’m so sorry!
I shouldn’t be here!” Kellen’s shoulders relaxed.
It was an easy tactic.
It was something he’d seen others use often. “Do you have a cellphone?
Or a t.v.?” Kellen asked, and watched as he shook his head.
It was surprising that he didn’t have a cell phone, but the t.v.
was anticipated.
They really isolated this kid.
Kellen was going to have to find out why.
“My Father and I were shot at by a shooter.
This injury happened almost immediately after I left your previous Guiding Center.
Did they threaten you immediately after I left with those words?” He slowly shook his head at Kellen’s words.
“N-No, but-” “Then you had nothing to do with this.
Now, get up please.
I can’t really bend down right now.” Kellen smiled at him and watched as he raised his face and met Kellen’s gaze.
He shivered, blinking several times before he gulped. “I-I wanted to be of some help to you.
I overheard the reason why you came to Guiding Center C.
I-I have powers.
I can help.” Kellen looked over the boy.
He’d clearly gone through it, and Kellen turned, looking at Brent as he came to a standstill next to him. “Brent, would you help me get him to the Medical Bay?” Kellen asked and Brent frowned. “Do you think he’s going to make it?” He asked and Kellen laughed.
Brent’s anger at what Kellen had done to him was gone, replaced with very real worry for the boy before him. “With your help, yes.” Kellen turned to the boy who seemed to be confused.
“Before we can accept your help, you’re going to need to do something for us, alright?” Kellen’s smile was warm, comforting, and the young boy took his hand willingly when it was offered. Little did he know the embarrassment he was about to experience at the hands of this man.
CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Hey everyone!
I made an announcement, but at the same time, I thought I’d leave a longer note here.
I’m going to be participating in the mass release event.
Just a small little one, but I thought it would be fun to make it into a little side story!
It could be themed, about a specific pair, anything!
Just put your comments into chapter 249’s comment section on the chapter itself and I’ll give it a review!
Thanks everyone!
