Chapter 273: Five seconds of fame Chapter 273: Five seconds of fame There wasn’t a t.v.
in sight outside of the patient rooms, so Kellen offered up his phone as the sacrifice for everyone to look at as he pulled up what everyone was telling him to. He didn’t have to search far.
It was in the middle of trending on every website.
Kellen understood why.
It was streaming on official channels, and that only made Kellen frown more. Someone had gone through the trouble to take over the news while it was playing live.
It was obviously hostile, and Kellen’s gut churned as he stared down at the phone in his hand. The image wasn’t clear, and Kellen knew that was intentional.
Anyone who had taken over and fought through the back-end security of a news outlet clearly had enough skill or money to get a good camera.
This was clearly to make a point. It was filmed in an interrogation style, where the background was full on black, while a light was pointed on the single person talking.
They were wearing a mask, which Kellen was only slightly disappointed in.
He’d hoped that they’d be stupid enough to show themselves, but clearly that had a little bit of intelligence. The mask was blank, a white non descript unpainted mask that you could pick up at any cheap store.
Usually used for crafting, Kellen hated that they hadn’t painted it, and that it was something easy to get.
Kellen knew it was intentional, and without even listening to the bastard sitting there in the mask, a full black suit, and sparkling silver hair pooling around his shoulders, Kellen wanted to punch his lights out. It was a he.
Kellen didn’t know how he was so sure, since they could have used a voice changer, but he was.
This fucker was a male, and from their voice, they were pleased as punch. Kellen was going to kill him. “-like this.
I’ve always wanted to, you know, but with everything going on, and how tight security is nowadays, I’ve had to be a bit more cautious.
I’m sure some of you are completely confused about what I’m doing here, while others probably want to reach through their screens and strangle me.” He giggled, and Kellen knew the man had to be smirking under his mask. “Disgusting.” Kellen muttered, and the two Espers beside him said nothing. “To answer a few of the questions no doubt some of you have, I’ve decided to make a rare appearance.
Tada!
Hello everyone, I’m the current leader of the E.A.G., or Espers against Guides.
It is so nice to see so many news faces in the audience today.
Please, hold your applause.” He chuckled as if he was hilarious.
“The reason why I’ve decided to speak is that someone has put in a lot of work to repress our recognition for the most recent incident, and since we put so much hard work and planning into that, I decided that I should come out of the woodwork and make sure everyone knows where to point their fingers.” Kellen wanted to smash his head into the damn fucking table he was sitting at. “The E.A.G.
was responsible for the most recent attack against Guide Henry Woods, and his most violent son, Guide Kellen Woods.” He was right.
Kellen was feeling pretty fucking violent. “Those fuckers.” Taylor muttered and Kellen agreed. “Of course, since we haven’t heard any news about Esper Woods surging, we have no idea but are pretty certain our attempts to nip the bud didn’t work.
It’s a tragedy that we weren’t able to get to the source of the issue, but we’ve been working on this for quite some time, and have a lot of experience in this field.
I’m sure we’ll get there eventually.” He sounded so fucking chipper.
Happy.
Easy-going. “Send someone to Mom, right now.” Kellen muttered and Rhys was already on it. “Done.
Security?” Rhys asked and Kellen nodded. “We can’t let her leave.” “As newcomers to this city, or, newly showing our hand here, I thought I would take the time to speak a bit about our mission statement.
What does Espers against Guides truly mean?” He leaned forward, and Kellen could feel the smirk on his lips from his tone of voice.
“Are you tired of being rejected by Guides because of your Class?
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Are you tired of the endless pain?
The endless torment?
Why should you have to rely on others when you can rely on yourself?
We at the E.A.G.
believe that the way the world is going right now is the wrong way.
The direction, the shift is only going to hinder us globally. We’re in trouble.
The cities do their best to hide it, but we are losing the battle between humanity and the gates that appear.
The monsters are taking over, and if we are to stand a fighting chance, we cannot let the world continue in the direction that we are going.
We need strong, powerful Espers, good Espers, at the forefront of the issue.
Countries?
Alliances?
What should matter is humanity first, not a divide by the silly nuances of global politics.
What does nationality matter to a monster who wants to kill your children? Nothing.
They don’t care about you, and they don’t care about politics.
You know who else doesn’t care about you?
Your government. All governments keep secrets, it’s an unspoken rule that we all foolishly agree to when we agree to live in particular areas around the world, but what if I told you that your government was keeping a particularly nasty secret from you?” “No, this motherfucker isn’t.” Kellen whispered, and Rhys moved, beginning to tap away on his phone aggressively. “We at the E.A.G.
believe that nothing should be kept from the public.
The common people.
Some may say that makes us pessimists, but I like to think that it makes us realists.
I happened to stumble upon this information as I was working to fix our little problem, and I was devastated.
Five lives lost, and no one is allowed to know who they are?” Kellen wanted to punch through the screen and strangle him. “He’s going to do it.” Kellen was incredulous.
This idiot had no idea what he was doing. Or, he knew exactly what he was doing, and this was the response that he wanted. “It’s a policy put into place to not worry you, the public, the people who make up most of this city, to keep things from you when things go wrong on what they call the ‘front lines’, but I just could not believe my eyes when I found out the news.
A new gate.
A new gate on the front lines.
Not only a new gate, but it is a new gate which has already claimed lives, and the last gate of this kind was never fixed, never solved and it exploded.
It killed hundreds of thousands of people, livestock and plant life.” He leaned forward for effect. “This Gate that exploded was at such a lower level of power that it should have been easy to clear, but this new gate, our new gate is a B Class gate.
A B Class Poison gate, and your government wanted to keep this from you.
These people who you have given your trust had turned around and betrayed you and didn’t tell you about the danger lurking in your backyard. It wasn’t so long ago that gates were forming in the cities, exploding without care and harming you, the civilians, and now they are going to go behind your back and hide things from you?
When it involves your safety?
Do you know how hard it was for me to get this information?
I was horrified when I found it.
Just devastated.” He placed a hand on his chest, trying to appear meek and small.
Kellen growled. “I’m going to wring his neck.” He declared. “Not if I get to him first.” Taylor muttered, and that statement didn’t surprise him as much as it should.
She had been the one repairing them.
She probably had a serious bone to pick with him. “We’ve broken through.
We should be turning him off soon.” Rhys declared. “Things would be completely different if we, the E.A.G., were in charge.
We would never lie to you.
We would never hide the truth from you.
How would that help anything?
More heads thinking of solutions together is the way forward.
None of this…segregation for the sake of it.
Classes?
Why does that matter?
We are all in this together.
We are Espers.
And there are Guides.
We should be-” Thankfully, that was the moment that everything cut off, and the news returned. The shocked expressions of the newscasters said it all.
This had not been planned, this had not been a joke, and now, they had to scramble to fix the giant mess that had just landed in their laps. Kellen could only wonder at how Uncle Tom was going to take this news.
He had bigger fish to fry at the moment.
CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Kellen loves how he called him violent.
Man is about to find out how violent Kellen can get.
