- Chapter 286 - Chapter 286 Keep your eyes off of my man
Chapter 286: Keep your eyes off of my man Chapter 286: Keep your eyes off of my man The others in the room remained frozen since the weight of what Rhys was feeling filled the room.
Kellen couldn’t even find it in himself to tell him to tone it down.
Kellen knew he was fine, but he couldn’t exactly dictate how Rhys should feel. So he just held him as the man slowly stopped shaking.
Kellen also didn’t like seeing him like this, but Kellen could feel how Taylor was hovering nearby, anxious to get to him. “Rhys, you need to let Taylor have a look at me.
I feel it’s just a bruise, but she needs to make sure.
I also strained my other wound.” Rhys backed off immediately at Kellen’s softly spoken words.
It was so quick Kellen’s body almost lurched after him, and Rhys and Taylor had to put their hands on him to prevent him from falling. “Fuck.
Sorry.” Rhys muttered, his yellow gaze still bright, but slightly dimmed.
Kellen reached up, running his fingers through his hair, watching as Rhys closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “It’s okay.
I’m fine now.
You just surprised me.” Kellen told him softly, feeling as if he was gentling an animal.
Kellen would never tell him that either.
It would go against his argument that Rhys wasn’t a monster, and he knew it.
But all Espers were kinda…animal-like?
At least that was how most Guides viewed them. Taylor approached from the side, her eyes glowing green as she scanned Kellen carefully, repeatedly, making sure nothing was wrong. “I told you this was dangerous.” Taylor muttered, and Kellen honestly couldn’t remember her telling him that.
She glowered at him when he gave her a confused look.
“In my head.
I definitely told you not to do it.
I knew you weren’t going to listen, so I was saving the lecture for after.
I hate that I was right.
Damn it Kellen.
We’re still short Guides, and you’re going to do this shit?
Your leg is so swollen, and the bruise is…” She shook her head, sniffing as her eyes watered.
“Without that protection, it might have…done some real damage.” Kellen grinned. “You saw how it didn’t even go through the Field Guide Uniform, right?
I would have been alive, that’s for sure.” Kellen gave her a thumbs up and Taylor’s face twisted. “Shut up.
Just because it didn’t tear through the fabric of your uniform doesn’t mean it couldn’t have done some serious damage.
Your ribs, or heaven forbid, your lungs could have been damaged.
You’re very lucky that the Captain was so insistent on those bullet proof vests.
It wasn’t, at least, I don’t think, it was a normal D.E.C.
weapon.” There was one way to check that. “Hill.” Kellen called, and Hill jerked.

She glanced at Kellen, before looking at Rhys. “Yes Kellen?” “In my long jacket, on the right hand side in one of the pockets closer to the hip should be the gun.
I grabbed it.” Kellen told her and Lieutenant Fisher shifted. “You grabbed it?” He asked carefully and Kellen nodded. “Yeah.
I was worried that they would get a second wind.
I shouldn’t have worried, since Sakura took over, but I’m cautious.
I was doing my best not to get shot again.” Hill’s face tensed, and so did Esper Blake. Lieutenant Fisher groaned. “Well, once someone grabs it, please bring it over.
I’ll check and see if it’s one of ours, or if it was brought in.
From the way the bullet reacted, I have a feeling it’s from our most recent shipment, but I want to make sure.” His tone was dark, unhappy, and Kellen wanted to ask what he was so worried about, but had his own concerns. Taylor shoving a shake into his face was one of them. “Drink.
You’re going to need to guide me while I repair your sorry ass.” She muttered, her eyes already focused on her task.
Kellen could feel Rhys tense beside him.
Kellen continued to run his fingers through Rhys’ hair soothingly and felt the man relax again. Kellen crushed the shake, before he placed his other hand on Taylor’s shoulder as he felt her work on him.
Kellen winced as she sucked his power from her, and it wasn’t the first time that Kellen was confronted with the sheer force that was Taylor inside. Whatever Guide took her on was going to be in for a ride.
She was a time sink, her pool massive for an A Class.
If her power had just been a tad stronger, she probably would have been classified as a S Class on principle.
But because she was just a little bit weaker then they had wanted, and she could be around Rhys and the others easily, she was an A Class Healer. That being said, she had let her pool get quite a bit low, and Kellen had to make sure she didn’t suck him dry otherwise Rhys would kill not only him, but her as well.
“Taylor, how the fuck aren’t you-” “Worry about yourself.” Taylor’s tone was harsh as she worked, and Kellen shut his mouth.
It was clear that compared to the others, she was doing a lot better at managing her levels.
She looked exhausted, yes, but she didn’t look like Hill, or Pamela, or even the much better looking Casper.
She had maintained her humanity through it all, and honestly, Kellen felt he should probably be proud of her for it. “Kellen, where is your mind drifting?
Are you in pain?” Rhys asked, his voice small, tender, careful.
Kellen flushed. “Oh, I’m…okay.
My thigh hurts a little, but I can’t really feel the bruise yet.
I’m sure it’ll sting tomorrow, but I’m okay.
I just kinda…want to hear about how the situation is going outside.
I have a feeling that Pamela is going to need a rest after this.” Kellen muttered and Rhys frowned. “How on earth can you be concerned about others when you were shot today, Kellen?” Rhys asked, almost chastising him and Kellen shrugged.
The muscles of his chest protested, and so did Taylor.
She let out a soft, warning growl and Kellen laughed nervously. “I don’t know?
It’s easy?” Kellen offered and it appeared that no one in the room liked that response.
Kellen also realised he was the only Guide in the room, so he didn’t feel like this was a fair argument.
He didn’t have any none-injured Guides to back up his stance. A knock sounded at the door, and everyone froze. “Lieutenant Fisher?
Are you in here?” Kellen felt his whole body tense.
He would take back his thoughts right away. He would rather be the only Guide in the room again please. The manager for Guiding Center A pushed open the door slowly, carefully, aware of how delicate Esper’s could be given the situation they were in.
Why she was behaving that way, since her actions basically assumed that the Captain was in here while calling for Lieutenant Fisher, was a completely different topic. Kellen knew that her actions were a slight, but none of the Espers in the room would notice it.
They would not, and could not notice the subtle power fight that the two were about to engage in.
Especially when Kellen noticed that the damn woman brought the same Guide that she’d brought with her last time and who she’d offered up to the Captain. Before his friendships had deteriorated. Thankfully, she hadn’t brought them this time. She gasped, seeming surprised to see Kellen in the room with them, covering her mouth in shock.
Kellen felt his grip tighten in Rhys’ hair, as Rhys turned to see who had entered. “My goodness!
What happened here?” Kellen grit his teeth. “I am sure you are aware we had a press conference scheduled for today.
As the main contract to the D.E.C., they wouldn’t have kept you in the dark.” Kellen replied tartly, and it was clear that the Espers in the room were startled by the sharp way Kellen was speaking.
All except Rhys, and Taylor.
Hill knew that something had happened between him and some of her Guides, but she didn’t know all of the juicy details from Kellen’s side. “Oh Guide Woods, why would I have ever made an assumption like that?
It’s not my place.” The woman was implying that Kellen was overstepping his bounds.
This fucker.
Kellen was not in the mood.
He had downplayed how much he was hurt to Rhys to not worry him, but this was the worst time she could have shown up.
Especially with that pretty little thing that she had thrown at the Captain before. The pretty little thing was looking around the room, but it wasn’t as if Kellen hadn’t noticed the way that he kept glancing at Rhys.
Kellen’s grip had to be bruising on Rhys’ scalp, but he said nothing.
Nor did Taylor.
He felt bad for gripping onto them so tightly, but there was nothing he could do.
He had to be touching both of them right now, and he was pissed. “Oh?
If it’s not your place, why are you here?” Kellen asked, forcing a smile onto his lips.
“The injured and overworked Espers are outside.” Kellen told her and he heard Hill cover her laughter, trying to stifle herself.
Her smile faltered. “Well, we wanted to make sure that the higher-” “They’re fine.
You should go check up on the Espers who are risking their lives right now against terrorists who not only attacked our city, but your Center, right?
You should be showing your deep appreciation for them, shouldn’t you?” Kellen watched as her eye twitched, as she scanned Kellen. “Were you injured, Guide Woods?” She asked stiffly and Kellen chuckled. “I would worry about the other guy, Manager.” The way he said her title wasn’t polite, and he watched as her face flushed.
It wasn’t respectful like it was for his old Manager of the Guiding Center he had worked at.
He should refer to her by her title, the fact that she was a Guide.
Kellen hadn’t done that. “Guide Woods, you can’t possibly tell me you are planning to guide so many Espers, are you?” Kellen snorted. “Why would half of them, who belong to my Guild, need your help?
Even though we have made a contract to borrow some of your Guides, we haven’t finished talks yet, have we?
Nor have we received the Guides that we specifically selected.
We do not need your help when we aren’t asking.” Kellen stated firmly.
He was not about to let her walk all over him.
Not right now. He was feeling agitated, especially by the Guide who was staring at his Esper.
He was doing everything he could to not rip his eyes out for looking at him like that.
She sputtered. “Guide Woods, that’s not very-” “I don’t care.
You came in here, knowing that this is the last place you should be.
I hope the Guides that we’ve selected do not have the same behaviours as you do, Manager, otherwise I will be sending them back barely touched.
I’m sure that would tarnish your image more than if you cancel your contract.
You can do that if you want, and break your promise to the Saturn Guild.” Kellen narrowed his gaze.
“But remember, there will be consequences if you do.” She was shocked by the way that Kellen was speaking to her.
Kellen’s heart felt like a drumbeat in his chest.
“We’re good here.
You can leave.” Kellen told her.
She was frozen stiff, shaking slightly from the insults Kellen had thrown at her.
Lieutenant Fisher cleared his throat. “It’s fine for you to leave, Manager Thompson.
We’ll speak about this later.” She paled, and quickly bowed before yanking the Guide she’d brought with her out.
Kellen finally relaxed his muscles and Hill burst out into laughter. “Holy shit!
That was hilarious!
That was like watching two cats hiss at each other.” Hill was bent over with laughter, and even Esper Blake and Taylor had slight mirth in their eyes.
Rhys, however, was checking over Kellen carefully, while also removing Kellen’s hand from his hair.
It must have hurt. “Kellen, sweetheart, are you alright?
You are normally more put together than that.” Rhys muttered, concern lacing his tone and Kellen sighed, his face warming. “I…She insulted me several times, and also brought the same fucking Guide from that day.” Rhys blinked, uncomprehending. “The same day?” Kellen frowned, trying to keep the rage at bay while Taylor was still working on him. “I don’t want to talk about it with so many people around.
Just…drop it for now, alright?” Kellen muttered.
“Or I might just go out and beat them up to feel better.” Hill’s laughter trailed after Kellen’s words, while Rhys stared at him in concern. “Your eyes were glowing the whole time.” He murmured and Kellen looked away from him, pissed at him for being too attractive, pissed at the Manager for being here, and pissed at that damn Guide for looking at what was his. “Drop it, Rhys.” Kellen warned, meaning it, and Rhys’ eyes widened at Kellen’s tone.
Kellen hadn’t been this snappy with him, ever, and Rhys felt his lips twitch. “Alright.
I’ll drop it.” Rhys told him softly.
Even if Rhys’ negative energy had dropped back to normal levels, Kellen’s negative energy had risen.
He just couldn’t affect the others the same way Rhys could.
Those fuckers.
CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Kellen is going to be a menace when they go out together now.
He’s going to be so jealous, and he doesn’t even know yet.
Rhys is going to be all smiles, making it worse.
