(BL) Hunting The Field Guide - Chapter 292
Chapter 292: I’m telling Hill Chapter 292: I’m telling Hill Kellen’s face was still burning as they made their way towards where Kellen expected Brent and his students to be.
He’d almost forgotten about Esper Blake until he found her hovering about outside a door.
She seemed…nervous to enter, and Kellen had no idea why until he got closer. “…Kellen and I were on a grand adventure.
Several Espers, we were the ones in charge of them, and not a single one would step out of line.
Kellen might not look it, but he’s a big softie.
So when he noticed that one of the Espers was being treated differently than the others, he instantly felt bad.
Little did he know, the reason everyone avoided her was because she was crazy.
So I-” Kellen tuned out Brent, sighing and running his hand over his face. “This is not teaching, Brent.” Kellen murmured quietly and Rhys chuckled beside him. “Hmm, I think it is.
Telling stories about what has happened is sometimes educational.
I would say that this story is.
Learning from your elder’s mistakes is important.” Kellen couldn’t really agree.
This story was… Kellen just didn’t want Rhys to hear the ending.
He probably wouldn’t be too happy. Kellen approached the door, nodding to Esper Blake before he knocked and then pushed it open.
Brent seemed excited to see Kellen first, before he took in Kellen’s entire appearance. Brent’s face turned down quickly, a frown marring his features, turning his face quite serious.
He crossed his arms, his Guide uniform rustling as he slowly looked over Kellen again.
Taking in the way he held his cane, the fact he was wearing the Captain’s jacket without complaint, and the way that he had both Rhys and Esper Blake behind him. “I take it the press conference didn’t go well?” He asked mildly and Kellen shrugged. “It could have been worse.
No one died.
I got to yell at people, Sakura got to pick people up like they were ants and section them off, and I shot someone.
So, could have been way worse.” Rhys rumbled behind him, displeased and Kellen sighed.
“I was also shot, but I’m fine.
They just needed my clothes for forensic purposes.” Brent’s eyes went wide and several of the students gasped.
“You were shot?
And you’re still coming into work?
Captain Thatcher, are you alright?” Brent turned his green gaze towards him, seriously concerned and Rhys relaxed his shoulders. “Mr.
Woods comforted me some, and Esper Blake is here to make sure that nothing else happens.
I’ll be fine, but I appreciate your concern, Esper Jameson.” Brent nodded, his expression still full of concern.
Kellen felt his cheeks warm.
He knew damn well what kind of comfort Rhys was speaking about. Kellen sneakily reached out and smacked his side, knowing it wouldn’t hurt him in the slightest but Rhys reacted as if he’d been hit by a monster.
He gasped, covering the spot that had been hit and gave Kellen big, wounded eyes.
The Guides in the room stared at him in surprise.

No one believed that Kellen could have hurt him, but Rhys was putting on the theatrics. “Ow!
Mr.
Woods, how could you?
I am so sensitive right now!” Kellen stared at him in shock, before he watched Rhys’ lips twitched.
“I need more comfort.” Kellen’s face flushed and he placed his hand on Rhys’ chest, pushing on it.
Rhys didn’t budge. “Captain Thatcher.” Kellen began, and watched in horror as his eyes dipped down into gold.
“I believe you’ve already received enough ‘comfort’ for the day.
Now, don’t you have some work to get to?” Kellen asked him sweetly, his eyes narrowed.
Rhys chuckled, bending forward until his lips brushed his ear. “Well, I do have to go look up something because someone got eager and then backtracked immediately.” Kellen could have heard a pin drop in the room.
Brent’s eyes were wide, and Kellen didn’t even want to know what was going through his head. “Captain Thatcher,” Kellen’s fingers slid up his body until he got to his collar and he yanked him closer to Kellen.
The man had a smug look on his face.
“If you don’t watch that tongue of yours, I will go and stay with my parents in the Medical Bay, am I understood?” Kellen threatened, and Rhys’ expression softened. “Oh how terrifying, Mr.
Woods.
You really know how to scare me.” Kellen raised an eyebrow. “Do you think that if I willingly walked into Taylor’s hands right now that she would let me go?
You saw how wound up she was.
She wouldn’t let me go back to my room because she’s probably under the impression right now that any time I’m out of her sight.
I’m in danger.
She’s not as stable as she appears.” Kellen told him and Rhys narrowed his eyes. He bent, pressing a kiss against Kellen’s cheek before he gently broke Kellen’s grasp on his shirt. “Fine.
I’ll behave.
But I’m telling Hill.” He warned and Kellen scowled.
Brent glanced between them, unsure what had happened, but happy that the mood was terrible between the two of them. “Get out.” Kellen ordered and Rhys saluted him cheekily before he left, leaving Kellen and Esper Blake behind.
Brent marched over to Kellen and began undoing the Captain’s jacket that he was wearing.
He at least made sure that the students couldn’t see his chest, but when Brent’s eyes went wide and his mouth dropped open, Kellen knew that they were going to be just as curious. “Just shot?
Just shot?
Is this after Esper Green worked on you?
You should be resting!” Brent’s voice was a quiet shout, and Kellen was sure all of the Guides could hear him. Sighing, Kellen hung his head before he reached out, attempting to soothe Brent by patting him on the shoulder. “I’m fine.
I was wearing a ton of bullet proof vests and my Field Guide uniform.
It looks a lot worse than it feels.” Kellen told him, staring at the splattering of purple bruises that were forming on his chest.
He would admit, it looked awful.
But he meant what he said.
He didn’t feel it really.
He wasn’t sure if that was because of Taylor, or if it just didn’t hurt that much. Brent didn’t seem convinced, and he closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh that felt like he was letting out a piece of his soul with it. “You are in so much trouble, Kellen.
What am I going to do with you?
Judging by how you’re holding that cane, you hurt your old injury again, didn’t you?” Kellen looked away from him. “It was…necessary.” Kellen muttered and Brent glowered at him. “There better be a fuck ton of footage of what you deemed ‘necessary’ to reopen your wound, Kellen, or so help me, I’ll tie you to your bed and tell the Captain that you aren’t feeling well.” It was a threat.
Rhys would freak out that Kellen wasn’t feeling well, and everyone in the room knew it. Kellen frowned. “That’s not very nice, Brent.” Brent sighed, closing the Captain’s jacket that Kellen was wearing and doing up the buttons for him since he couldn’t. “Well, I’m not feeling very nice after seeing you so injured recently.
I’m feeling quite mean, and pissed that I can’t be around you when you need me like this.” It wasn’t something that they spoke about, but Brent avoided all media if possible.
Kellen didn’t ask any questions.
He knew better. He’d been around Brent when others had asked him about it, and Brent always brushed it off saying that he froze up in front of a camera, but the photos for the calendar told him otherwise.
It also surprised him that he even did photos for the calendar.
Did he not consider it as big of a deal? It didn’t matter, and Kellen wasn’t even that bothered by it. “I’m sorry Brent.
I hope at least the class has been going well?” He asked and Brent looked away nervously. “Oh.
It’s been going great.” He told him, and Kellen gave him a look.
He’d overheard what he’d been saying outside the door, and now it was Brent’s time to apologise.
“I’m sorry.
They were asking questions, and I just find this part sooooo boring, so I was just-” Kellen sighed, running his free hand over his face as Brent stepped away, the jacket fully buttoned up again. “It’s…okay.
I’ll just take over if you find it so boring.” Kellen told him and Brent sighed. “Sorry Kellen.” He muttered and Kellen shook his head. “It’s alright.
You’ll just be carrying most of the load when these guys head to the front lines for some hands-on experience.” Gasps went around the room, and Brent’s eyes widened. “Are you serious?
You aren’t joking?” Kellen shook his head, smiling slightly. “It’s still a little out of their expertise.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending them yet, but soon.” Brent pumped his fist, excitement making his features bright. “Oh hell yeah!” He shouted, before he covered his mouth, his green eyes comically wide.
Kellen chuckled, happy that Brent was so happy.
He hadn’t meant to keep him away from the front lines for so long, but at least he could promise him that he would be able to get back there soon.
At least some things were going smoothly.
CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Brent’s just doing his best, but he’s a learn by doing kind of guy.
Not that Kellen isn’t but Brent hates book learning the most.
