(BL) Hunting The Field Guide - Chapter 303
Chapter 303: My Dad’s scarier Chapter 303: My Dad’s scarier Listening to his Mom had been frustrating since he couldn’t say what he wanted, but he also appreciated hearing what she had to say. He wasn’t going to listen to her completely, but he appreciated her words nonetheless.
While they rested together, Kellen holding her hand and leaning against her shoulder while she had her arm wrapped around his shoulder, Kellen had a lot to think about.
His body also slowly relaxed, and he found he had a bit more control over himself.
A soft set of knocks sounded from the door before the door was pushed in slightly.
“Is it alright if I come in?” Rhys’ voice was gentle and Kellen felt his shoulder’s relax even more.
“Your husband has said that dinner is prepared enough, and he wants to speak to his boy.
I didn’t think you wanted me to carry him up.” Rhys said and Kellen’s Mom sighed. “He’s right.
I would be pissed if that happened.
Are you alright being alone for a moment, Kellen?
I’ll be right back with your Dad.” She pressed a kiss against his forehead, giving his hand and shoulder a squeeze before she got up, and Rhys stepped into the room proper. Rhys stared and Kellen after he nodded to his Mom, letting her slip past him.
Rhys’ gaze was soft, full of worry and…love for Kellen.
Kellen gulped, flexing his hands just to make sure that he could now.
Opening his mouth, he felt his throat rub together before he was finally able to get a word out. “Come sit?” Kellen said carefully, his throat aching from the tense way it had been held, and thus his voice sounding a little scratchy.
Rhys moved as soon as Kellen spoke, slamming his body down on the bed next to him.
He quickly wrapped his arm around Kellen’s shoulder, pulling him close and inhaling Kellen’s scent. “God, I was so worried.
I’m glad you’re able to speak again.” Rhys murmured.
“You looked so scared.
I hated seeing that expression on your face.” Rhys told him and Kellen leaned into his hold, unable to help himself.
He liked the way he felt being in Rhys’ arms, and Rhys made a soft noise in his throat before he swallowed and held onto him tighter. “I was worried too.” Kellen rasped and Rhys chuckled. “You sound super sexy with a raspy voice though.
Damn, I didn’t expect that, though I should have.
I find everything about you sexy.” Rhys told him and Kellen felt his shoulders shake with silent laughter. The two of them remained like that as they waited for Kellen’s parents to arrive.
They could both hear them as they made their way up the stairs, the two chatting or bickering to each other as they made their way up the stairs. His Dad demanded to be put down on his feet before he pushed open the door, taking in how Kellen looked, and who Rhys had wrapped himself around him.
Kellen’s Mom chuckled, shaking her head as she stared at the boys. “You waste no time, do you, Rhys?” She teased, mirth in her tone and Rhys gave her a cheeky grin. “Absolutely not.
Kellen needs comfort, I’m going to be there to provide it.
Even if it’s out of line with his parents around.” Rhys said proudly and she chuckled while Kellen’s Dad made his way to the other side of Kellen and plopped himself down. “Did you have a panic attack my son?” He asked softly and Kellen swallowed. “I-I don’t know.” Kellen told him, meaning his words.
He didn’t really know what had happened to him.
He’d lost all control of his body.
He’d hated it, but that didn’t mean he knew what it was.
It was actually alarming to him that everyone else seemed to know what it was.
Had they gone through something so scary before? That couldn’t be a universal experience.

God, he hoped not.
If it was, he knew he hadn’t been taking care of his people well enough. His Dad was staring at him, his expression dark, but worried.
He reached out, cupping Kellen’s face with both of his hands.
Kellen swallowed, his body relaxing at the simple touch. “My sweet boy.
I don’t know how you saw everyone else panicking around you and didn’t think that you would have the same reaction at some point.
My stubborn baby boy.” His fingers stroked Kellen’s face and he gave a heavy sigh.
“If you ever decide to take on my pain ever again, I’m going to lock you up in the way they say to in the Guide textbooks, alright?” His Dad’s voice hadn’t changed, his tone still full of worry, so it took Kellen a moment to realise the gravity of his words. Rhys was sputtering behind him, while Kellen felt his face heat. “M-Mom already threatened to spank me and put me in time out.” Kellen told him, and he nodded sagely. “Of course.
As it is her duty.
But this is my duty.
As your Dad, and as a fellow Guide, I have a feeling that won’t get through to you unless I do it in a classic Guide way.
I’ll even get a damn cage made to fit you, Kellen.
I swear to the fucking powers that rule over us.
If you ever put yourself in danger for my sake again, and it’s not something like pushing me out of the way of a bullet, I don’t care if I embarrass you, I’m yanking you out of whatever powerful meeting or bullshit you’re in and dragging you back to be punished.
No phone, no t.v., no computer.
Just food and my nagging, am I clear?” He threatened and Kellen couldn’t help himself.
He started laughing. “Dad, that isn’t really a threat, is it?
You’re basically just going to take me back to your house and lock me up, aren’t you?” He sniffed at Kellen’s words, and it was a little bit funny to see him like this.
He was normally the calm and collected one, but it appeared that Kellen had really scared him. Gently shaking off Rhys’ arm, he pulled his Dad in for a hug, squeezing him lightly. “I’m sorry for scaring you.
I really didn’t mean to, and as you can see, I clearly wasn’t expecting it either.
I think…I might have had this reaction earlier if I hadn’t gotten so worked up over the damn Guiding Center A manager popping up as soon as I was being patched up.” Kellen tried to laugh it off, but Rhys’ hand on his back tensed.
Kellen’s Mom watched on, her arms crossed, and her expression hard.
“Why did you get so worked up because she showed up?” He asked carefully, and Kellen felt himself tense again.
His Dad, noticing his tension, pulled back, cupping Kellen’s face again.
He was frowning, like his Mom. “What happened?
What did Diana do to upset you so much?
You’ve always disliked Guiding center A, but this feels…What happened?” He demanded and Kellen grumbled.
He hadn’t wanted to talk about this, not with Espers around.
They wouldn’t know what she’d done, and he also didn’t want Rhys to know how petty he’d been. “After I had been shot and Taylor was in the middle of patching me up, she came looking for the Espers to ‘check’ on them.” Kellen started, and watched as his Dad’s brow furrowed.
“She came to our room first, and it was clear that she had.
Most of the Esper’s inside were from separate Guilds, not the D.E.C.
It would be a great insult for her to offer her services up to them, given that they all had Guides who worked in the Guild for them.
It was even more disrespectful since she blatantly suggested that Rhys needed help, or that my Espers needed help.
Yes, I have asked for aid, but to imply that I hadn’t taken care of my Espers up until this point with our limited resources is just…I was pissed.
And she brought around that same damn Guide that she had previously.
The one who she implied could Guide Rhys.
While I was still around.” Kellen’s Dad gasped. “That whore.” He exclaimed, and Rhys nearly sputtered, while his wife laughed. “Dad.” Kellen admonished, but he shook his head.
His Dad’s eyes started to glow, clearly getting worked up. “That damn bitch.
How dare she treat my son this way?
After all of the work I put in for the Center?
Oo, she is getting a strongly worded email.
And the pulling of our funding.” He declared hotly.
“Has she always been like this to you?
Or is this the first time?
Kellen, you need to tell us if people treat you like shit.
You have a bad tendency to keep everything to yourself, and I hate it.
I really do.
I want to be able to protect you from these fuckers, and yet you let them walk all over you because you don’t want to make us look bad.” Kellen couldn’t deny his words.
He looked away from his Dad, swallowing. “I just-” His Dad cut him off. “Kellen, my sweet, strong son.
Do you forget who we are?
Your Mother helped burn down the D.E.C., and I was right beside her.
I also nearly caused an international conflict when I decided to imprint with her instead of the piece of shit who wanted to own me before her.
We are rebels first, before we are the law abiding citizens that everyone sees us as.
We’ll always be that way.
If I need to personally crack some heads, I’ll fucking do it.
I don’t care.
You are my son first, and I don’t give a damn about long standing relationships if it means they hurt you.
If they so much as looked at you strangely, I’ll toss them off of a bridge with cement shoes.” Kellen flushed. He hoped now Rhys realised why Kellen had never brought up his concerns regarding others, and had to learn how to forgive them.
He hadn’t wanted to make his parents murderers, and he considered them minor slights.
Sure, they might have built up into a giant ball of insults, but that was nothing compared to his parents serving time. Even if his Mom was a lawyer, she didn’t practise that kind of law.
Rhys was staring at the family, his eyes wide as Kellen sighed.
His Dad was fierce, but he didn’t want to work him up more.
He was still healing, like Kellen was. “Dad, she only started behaving like this after I became an A Class.
I hadn’t really met her prior to that.” Kellen told him and he growled. “Good.
Ellie, cut everything off from the Guiding Center.
We’ll figure something else out.” Kellen shook his head.
He didn’t want to stop his Dad from doing what he loved.
He was a great teacher.
He didn’t want to take that away from him. “Dad, you don’t need to-” His glare shut Kellen’s mouth. “No one gets to hurt my son and get away with it.” “Well, speaking of hurting your son…” Rhys trailed off and Kellen turned his head, staring at him in shock.
Rhys had a small smile on his lips, while his parents tensed.
“What?
Did someone hurt him?” They both demanded in unison and Kellen sighed.
He closed his eyes.
This was not how he wanted today to go. CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Rhys is living for the way that Kellen’s parents are.
He had expected that they had brushed off Kellen’s concerns, but he should have known better.
It was the exact opposite.
Kellen kept everything inside so that his parents didn’t go to jail.
Yet the idiot still thought that they didn’t care about him and didn’t realise how greatly everyone elses words impacted him.
