Chapter 313: Side story-Casper’s night out part 1 Chapter 313: Side story-Casper’s night out part 1 Casper had never been so disrespected in his life. He had had some terrible interactions with new recruits, don’t get him wrong.
Ian, the Esper who was in the intake above Gwen, hadn’t been anything easy to handle, but he hadn’t stalked him to his home and tried to force himself on him.
He had only pestered him at work.
While that had been annoying, and inconvenient, it had been manageable. Now though?
He had never been dragged around like a bag of sand by not only someone who was employed, technically, in his department, nor a baby-faced new recruit.
And then there was the poor, barely legal, barely healed Guide who had been dragged into all of this and reminded him of a scared bunny. How the hell, why the hell did they think this was a good idea?
If two of the more wild employees of the Guild wanted to have a fun night out, why did they drag them along?
Casper was just starting to work on the hole that was in his heart.
He didn’t need any of this. It didn’t appear he had a choice, since no one had come to his defense, not even Kellen.
That part stung.
He had thought that they were getting closer.
Maybe that wasn’t the case if he was throwing him to the wolves. Casper had been dragged, pulled and pushed out of the Guild Tower by the two, rather similar, members of his Guild, and then dragged further into a cab, about a 10 minute cab drive away, and then was deposited into the throbbing, pumping nightlife of the city. Casper had never been here.
He’d never needed to be here.
He had too much on his plate, and dancing and drinking wasn’t really his scene.
He preferred long bubble baths, with maybe a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and a book. The smell of alcohol hit his nose and he scrunched it up.
Ugh.
Maybe he was going to forgo drinking for a while if that was the smell that was going to plague him after this visit. “Do you think there is going to be dancing?” Charlie whispered to Casper while the other two were busy chatting with people who he had no idea how they knew.
Casper glanced at Charlie, knowing damn well that it was his task to keep this man safe. He was trembling, his knees practically knocking against each other, and he had his arms wrapped around himself. Groaning, Casper took off his own, thick, white jacket that was protecting him from the bite of the cold this evening, and wrapped it around Charlie’s shoulders.
He was older, he could take it. “I don’t think you need to worry about that, Charlie.
You should be worried about how to avoid someone propositioning you.” Charlie’s face flushed, and he wrapped the jacket that Casper had given him without a word and nodded. “Oh.
Thank you.
I didn’t think anyone would.” Casper knew that the boy had to have some serious abuse happen to him for him to think that.
He was a pretty boy, like most Guides.
There was something…intrinsically attractive about him.
Casper couldn’t put his finger on it, but Charlie just…had it.
There was a reason that so many slimy people had stuck around him, and another reason why Casper was pissed at Guiding Center C. If they had someone this special, even if they had gotten them through illegal means, they should have reported that immediately to the Center, or the D.E.C., or even the International Guiding Authority.
Any one of those organisations would have stepped up and looked out for him. Instead, he got Kellen, who was not a conciliation prize, but was going to tear Guiding Center C to shreds.
If they had done the right thing, even if it had been a few months late, they wouldn’t have found themselves in this situation.
Regardless, Casper was pretty sure that Charlie wasn’t a C Class, even if he was classified as one. Casper had already looked into it.
Charlie had never been classified properly, and he was a little scared to bring the man to get classified.

Given what he felt from the boy, he could tell he was probably A Class.
He was a bit surprised that Kellen hadn’t spoken to him about Charlie’s class, but at the same time, the man had other concerns on his plate. That, and he was newly an A Class.
Kellen would need some more time to hone his skills to be able to pick up on these things.
Another reason why Casper shouldn’t leave the Guild right away.
Kellen wasn’t experienced in the right ways yet. “Alright you two!
We’re ready to go in!” Gwen called, her grey eyes glittering, and her grin wide.
Brent reached a gloved hand out to both Charlie and Casper, and grasped them on their upper arms.
He yanked them forward, tugging them into the loud, drumming room full of people, smells, and immediately Casper was overstimulated. “I really don’t think I should be here.” Casper called over the music and Brent screwed up his face. “What?” He shouted, loudly, and Casper winced. “I don’t think I should be here!” Casper repeated, louder, and Brent’s expression softened. “Oh, you want a beer?
Okay!” Casper stared in shock as he was handed off to Kellen’s younger sister while Brent dragged Charlie away.
Charlie at least looked back and gave him a wave, which Casper returned. When was he going to see the young man again? “Come on!
My friends have a table over here!” Gwen called, grabbing Casper’s hand and tugging him over.
He was pulled through the crowd, his glasses getting bumped and almost falling off, so he had to hold onto them while Gwen dragged him through the sea of people.
By the time he got out he was short of breath, irritated, and more ready to leave. “Gwen!” Several voices called, and Gwen was attacked by about three girls and one boy.
She was all smiles, still holding onto Casper’s hand as she chattered quickly away to her friends.
Casper turned away from them slightly, taking in the area that they had gotten into. It was apparently a V.I.P.
section, filled with tables, booths, and really, just places to relax.
Beyond the thin rope and bouncer who appeared to be keeping this area secured was the throbbing, pulsing crowd.
Casper would bet that the rope, or the whole area, had a dampening effect on it since it was quieter over here and he could hear his own thoughts. Gwen tugged on Casper’s hand and he turned his head.
He found four sets of very excited, very bright eyes watching him. “Casper, these are my friends.
We grew up together, and they are practically childhood friends.
Kellen has babysat me and every single last one of them.” Gwen told him with pride, and Casper felt his lips twitch.
He could just imagine how Kellen would have handled it.
He was sure that the man hadn’t always been drill sergeant-esque, but he just couldn’t imagine him as anything but that at the moment. “Hello Gwen’s friends.” Casper greeted, giving them a slight bow in acknowledgement.
Several of them looked flushed, and he wondered how much they had already been drinking. “Oh, please come sit!
We’re so excited to hear about Gwen and Kellen’s new Guild, and straight from the horse’s mouth, no less!
I’ll get us some shots.
Do you like Burt Reynolds, Casper?” Casper was shoved and pushed into the booth and closed in on on either side.
At least he had Gwen on one side, but he had one of her friends on the other. “I have no idea what that is.” Casper told her confidently and Gwen groaned. “Oh no.
Are you going to be as bad as Kellen?
Do you at least drink things besides cider?” She asked and Casper gave her a rather strange look. “I rarely drink, and if I do, it’s usually a beer or wine.” He shrugged.
“It wasn’t a big concern, and when you have the Captain around, drinking just wasn’t as fun.” That intrigued everyone. “What do you mean?” Gwen asked, leaning in closely.
Casper didn’t want to tell her not to press her boobs against him, but he did shift slightly away, putting a gap between them. “Well, he can drink an endless amount because he can, basically, get rid of all that he’s drunk.
It was annoying, and I watched Karen try to challenge him several times and fail.” Gwen’s eyes glittered. “She lost?” She asked, clearly surprised and Casper chuckled. “Karen hasn’t won a damn thing since she joined the Guild.
She was used to being the top everywhere she went, and then as soon as she met the Captain and-” He cut off, amusement suddenly gone.
“Well, she’s been on a losing streak ever since.” Casper ended, and shared looks around the table.
Casper saw them, but didn’t say anything.
He knew better. If they had been looked after by Kellen, they probably had huge hearts, and wanted to take care of everyone.
It was annoying, but a trait that was admirable that Kellen had kept after being on the front lines. “Hmm.
She certainly hasn’t behaved that way if she keeps losing.
Do you think she’s a glutton for punishment?” Gwen pondered and Casper let out a dry laugh. “She’s a glutton for everything, Gwen.
She’s never been satisfied with anything, as far as I can tell, but don’t tell her I said that.
She’s my current tea supplier, and I would hate for that to stop.” A few servers approached, arms full of drinks, food, and other assorted things and Casper watched in shock as they were placed on the table before them.
Food, in a night club?
What were these idiots thinking? Gwen caught him staring, horrified, and she winked.
She grabbed two shot glasses, passing one to Casper and clinking them together. “Can’t drink on an empty stomach, now can you?
Cheers, Casper.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Casper, someone who has never gone out before, has only heard horror stories from people, listening in on conversations, and things he has read online.
