(BL) Hunting The Field Guide - Chapter 88
Chapter 88: A big dog?
Chapter 88: A big dog?
“Mr.
Woods, if there was someone who I thought could convince someone to join them, it would be you.” The Captain smiled at Kellen, who seemed shocked by his response.
“Captain, I’ve only managed to convince Brent to work for me, twice.
I don’t think that counts.
You have too much faith in me.” The Captain winked at Kellen.
“Mm, maybe.
Or I just can’t imagine someone saying no to such a handsome man.” Kellen’s face heated, and he had to look away from the teasing man.
The Captain took it as a win, and smiled easily.
He was a very different man from the stoic, no nonsense Captain Thatcher that everyone else in the room had witnessed before Kellen’s arrival.
“Do you need me for anything else?” Kellen asked, wanting to escape the embarrassment.
The Captain took his time, humming and hawing, before finally grinning, reaching out and ruffling Kellen’s hair, much to his annoyance.
“No, there’s nothing else beyond your company that I need.
But I understand that we are both busy individuals.
It looks like Casper in particular wants to speak with you.” Kellen turned his head in the direction of the Captain’s gaze and found that he was right.
Casper stood there with his little tablet, and a small smile on his face.
“Yes.
Kellen and I were supposed to have a discussion about his Field Guide program.
I think once word spreads about the new gate amongst the common employees, more people will join, but I wanted to talk to him about who we’ve already selected.
And who voluntarily signed up.” Casper’s smile was genuine, and made Kellen’s heart squeeze.
People wanted to be Field Guides?
“Right.
I also came to you earlier to chat with you about things regarding the…program.” The Captain chuckled at Kellen’s hesitant tone, before gently pushing the younger man towards Casper.
“Take good care of him, Casper, or I’ll figure out a way to punish you.” Casper took the Captain’s teasing in stride.
“The good news, Captain, is that I have better ways to tease you.” The Captain, who had only been joking, stared at his Lieutenant and Casper chuckled.
“Did you forget?
I’ve been a part of the team that has guided you until Kellen arrived.
I have many, many things I could disclose to Kellen about you.” A look of horror crossed the Captain’s face, while Kellen felt himself smile in delight.
He was pleased to see that not only could Casper give as good as he got, but that he was also genuinely friends with the Captain.

“Casper, I wasn’t aware blackmailing was a Guide thing.” Kellen felt himself chuckle, and smiled up at the perplexed Captain.
“How else were we going to get Esper’s to listen to us if not for blackmail?” The room fell silent, and Kellen could hear Hill and Brent snorting with laughter.
Hill was back to her spot surrounded by wrappers and papers, while Brent was further away, speaking to an Esper about any information he had on the front lines.
The Captain cleared his throat.
“I will tell you about that when we don’t have such a captive audience, Mr.
Woods.
You hate when I embarrass you so openly.” Kellen blinked, before he gasped.
He slammed his fist down onto his open palm, making a soft noise.
“Oh!
You’re saying with our bodies.
That’s a given though, so I didn’t consider it.” Kellen said, surprising people once more.
Kellen glanced at the two next to him, taking in their shocked expressions.
“What?
It’s well documented that if a Guide and an Esper have a connection, that is bound to happen.
It is not without reason that someone would make that jump, and there are many documented cases where that has happened.
A Guide once prevented a surge by stripping before their Esper.” Casper chuckled, and the Captain nodded.
“We know that, Kellen.
We are just surprised that you made that jump.” Kellen didn’t like what they weren’t saying.
They had underestimated him.
Again.
“That’s unfair.
I’ve been a Guide for over a decade.
I’m inexperienced, not an idiot.” Hill chuckled.
She looked up from where she had been nose deep in papers and unwrapped a lollipop.
“With that attitude?
Not for long.” She laughed, shoving the lollipop in her mouth and it only made Kellen more confused.
“What do you mean?” He asked, and Hill laughed harder.
She used the lollipop in her hand as a pointer, and gestured to the Captain behind him.
“Kellen, my sweet, sweet boy.
The Captain is more than happy to teach you anything you have questions about.
Look at him.
He’s like an overeager puppy.
Just tell him to go fetch and he will.” She was busy laughing to herself while Kellen turned his attention to the Captain.
Hill was right.
The Captain looked as if his yellow eyes were sparkling.
It felt inappropriate, given the situation they found themselves in, with the new gate being such a dangerous thing, but with the Captain looking at him like that, Kellen wasn’t sure what to do.
Flushing, he glanced at Casper, who stood by waiting, and then the rest of the room, who seemed to be holding their breaths.
Kellen fought with himself for a few, tense milliseconds, before finally giving in.
He reached towards the Captain, and yanked the man towards him by the collar, before turning and leading him out the door.
Stunned, and not about to complain, he followed Kellen out of the room.
He couldn’t hide the stupid grin he had on his face either.
The rest of the room was silent, especially Kellen’s friends.
Brent had a stupid grin on his face, mimicking the look the Captain had.
His parents, however, were completely immersed in what they were talking about, almost to the point that others thought they had missed it.
It was only the small, subtle smiles on their faces that gave away the fact that they had witnessed the whole thing. Kellen led the two of them into a secluded area, his heart racing in his chest.
He wasn’t one to do these kinds of things, but the way that the Captain had looked at him….
“Mr.
Woods, did I do something wrong?” The Captain asked as soon as there weren’t any prying eyes around, and Kellen came to a stop.
He was panting.
He had no idea why.
He pressed his hand against his chest, feeling his heartbeat quickening.
It was probably in reaction to what he was about to do.
“Mr.
Woods?” When Kellen hadn’t turned around, the Captain grew anxious and called his name again.
Finally, Kellen turned around.
Blinking, the Captain seemed startled at the serious expression Kellen had on his face.
Kellen drank in his facial expression, the shape of his jaw, and the way his uniform fit him well.
He swallowed.
“Kellen, is everything-” The Captain tried again, but Kellen growled at him.
His yellow eyes immediately dipped to gold as the younger man grabbed his neck.
“Shut up, Captain.” Kellen ordered, and the Captain nodded as Kellen leaned forward and pressed his lips against his.
It was Kellen’s first time kissing him, at least, he was pretty sure, and he was worried he was doing an awful job.
But he wasn’t able to contain this feeling in his chest any longer.
For some time, as soon as he’d laid eyes on the Captain in the conference room he’d had this overwhelming urge to do…something.
It wasn’t until Hill had teased him that he’d come to this conclusion.
The Captain groaned, their lips pressed together and gripped the back of Kellen’s head with his hand.
He pulled away slightly, opening his eyes to stare into Kellen’s.
“You wanted a kiss?” He murmured softly, and Kellen felt his face heat.
For some reason, hearing it out loud felt wrong.
Dirty.
Embarrassed, Kellen glanced down and the Captain exhaled.
“No, none of that.
If you wanted a kiss, all you needed to do was say so.” Kellen opened his mouth to argue with him, but the Captain shut him up.
Covering his mouth with his, the Captain pressed their bodies together, hiding them even more from view as he feasted on the Guide.
Kellen’s brain left him as he clung to the Esper’s neck, his tongue swirling against the aggressive strokes of the Captain’s.
Kellen couldn’t help the moan that left his lips as the Captain rubbed the spot he liked most in his mouth, the Captain’s hand burying in Kellen’s hair to tug at it just right.
Kellen’s fingers became claws on the back of the Captain’s neck, and Kellen used his free hand to wrap around the Captain’s waist, pulling him closer.
Kellen would have kissed him longer if he didn’t hear a group of people pass by them, causing him to freeze.
The Captain, sensing the change, pulled away.
He was panting, staring at Kellen with a golden gaze, his lips wet, and his cheeks flushed.
Kellen had a feeling he didn’t look much different.
“Fuck.
I wanted to kiss you longer.” The Captain murmured.
Kellen swallowed, fighting the instinct to kiss the man again.
“You were okay with that?” Kellen asked, and realised that the Captain had a slightly dazed look on his face.
He watched in awe as the Captain blinked, before turning his gaze directly to Kellen.
A slow, pleased male smile crossed his face.
“Okay with that?
Kellen, sweetheart, you can pounce on me any time, any where.” Kellen felt his face heat.
He looked away from him, unsure what to say, only to feel the Captain lean in and press a kiss against his cheek.
He didn’t stop, and pressed more kisses against his cheek and jaw until Kellen pushed him away.
The Captain laughed, his face relaxed, and his eyes were full of an emotion Kellen wasn’t sure he was ready to put a word to.
Swallowing, Kellen met the Captain’s gaze, and watched as the emotion didn’t change, but the Captain’s expression did.
He leaned forward, pressing another kiss to Kellen’s cheek, before kissing the tip of his nose.
“We should get back, Kellen.
Since you wanted to speak with Casper.
Even if I want to eat you up like an ice-cream cone, I feel that would be disrespectful since I did call your parents in to help me.” The Captain said, and Kellen nodded in response.
“You’re right.” He agreed, not wanting to say out loud that out of everyone in that room, his parents would understand the most.
But, for some reason, Kellen didn’t want to let go of the Captain yet.
His grip tightened, and the Captain’s eyes widened.
Kellen licked his lips, and watched as the Captain’s gaze darted towards the movement.
Kellen, not wanting to break contact, thought of something, anything to say.
“D-Did that make you feel less insecure?” He asked, and the Captain’s lips twitched. Sensing what Kellen wasn’t able to put into words, but what was written all over his face, the Captain bent closer towards the Guide, and Kellen sucked in. “Kellen, are you trying out that new power you got?’ Kellen’s eyes widened as he stared at the S Class Esper before him. “My new power?” He asked and the Captain nodded, pressing his lips against his cheeks. “Yes, the one you said you knew all about.
The power that a Guide has over an Esper?” Kellen blinked, feeling swept up in the moment between them, especially when the Captain pulled him closer and Kellen could feel their uniforms rubbing against each other. “Uh, well, I don’t-” The Captain’s lips trailed up to his ear, and the soft, breathy exhale the Captain released into his ear had him freeze. “As Hill suggested, I am more than willing to teach you all about it.
What powers you have over me.
What powers I have over you.” He chuckled, and Kellen swallowed thickly.
“But I should warn you, it does come at a cost.” Kellen, for all that he was worth, tried not to react to his words. “W-What does it cost?” He asked softly, and the Captain grinned.
He pressed a kiss against Kellen’s exposed neck, and Kellen shivered. “It’s going to cost you about three hours, and by the end of it you’re going to know exactly what being a good boy is all about.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS CalyB Thanks so much for reading!
