Chapter 1179: Role model
Garret’s days had become so busy that he had started to consider pushing himself to the fifth level to endure his packed schedule better. However, that demanded time he didn’t have, and even relying on the miraculous supplement wouldn’t fix the issue.

So, Garret stuck to his routine, dealing with the many, revolutionary, and complex projects his Prince had assigned him to. Admittedly, no other place could provide Garret with that kind of scientific experience, but every mind had its limits, even one as genius as his.

Realistically, Coravis only had the Great Old One, the terraforming project, and the partial colonization as tasks, but the former was enough to keep entire teams busy for decades.

It wasn’t even a matter of size. The Great Old One was immense, but the potential applications of its shocking flesh seemed endless. They could go from simple supplements to life-changing drugs that could fix incurable genetic conditions.

Modern medicine was bound to change forever once the job was over, but Garret had merely scratched the surface of that field. A batch of supplements was finally ready for the human medical trials, but that was only the first step in a project that could last decades.

The partial colonization was next in line in terms of complexity, albeit it wasn’t even close to the previous project. Garret only had to arrange teams and structures. It was tedious work, but nothing he would consider hard.

As for the terraforming project, it actually exceeded every expectation without needing much input from Garret. The natural ground had arrived, and the same went for some resilient strands of specific vegetation, but their development had outdone the best possible simulations.

Of course, the Prince had told Garret about Coravis’ peculiarities. He had done that in his strange way, leaving nothing for the scientists to check, but those results had proven him right. It seemed the planet itself favored life, aiding its flourishing through mysterious and invisible methods.

Other than that, Garret had picked up the habit of retreating to his quarters in the main sea station when the projects didn’t strictly require his presence. He would never admit he stood guard to the communication array, awaiting any news from his unreachable Prince, so he masked that by helping Abraham with Baoway’s missions.

Truth be told, learning that someone had discovered how to turn the Scalqa’s tissues into artificial organic mana cores slightly hurt Garret’s pride. He was supposed to be the lead scientist in mutations, but an obscure figure had surpassed him.

The discovery was beneficial overall, especially since Abraham confirmed its viability and safety. Baoway would also start producing those artificial mana cores soon. However, Garret still felt he had failed his Prince.

Nevertheless, Garret could only swallow his pride and work harder. His decision to check on Baoway’s projects during his short and rare free time also came from that, but the effort was starting to affect his health after months had passed.

‘Get it together,’ Garret scolded himself when his vision became blurry. ‘He is probably working way harder than you.’

In the past, Garret would have mocked himself for that unreasonable loyalty. He was a man of science and numbers, only focusing on his family and humankind.

Yet, Prince Khan had forced Garret to rethink his title of genius. He had never clung to it, but the difference was impossible to dismiss. The Prince wasn’t great at scientific subjects, but his achievements bordered on the miraculous.

Also, the Prince had broadened Garret’s perspective. He not only gave him access to technology and projects that the Global Army would have never initiated. Prince Khan even told Garret about the threat about to fall on the universe, revolutionizing his entire value scheme.

After learning about the scarlet eyes, Garret couldn’t limit his thinking to humankind anymore. He had to consider the big picture, going past the boundaries of his human mind. Garret didn’t have the Prince’s mystical abilities, but imitating his efforts was something he could do.

Garret opened a drawer from the interactive desk before him, retrieving a tiny container and pointing it at his eyes. He poured the refreshing drops on them, and his vision stabilized, allowing him to look at the holographic screens in his quarters again.

The effort was quite pointless. Garret couldn’t hope to solve Baoway’s projects so easily, especially from another planet. However, imitation was the most straightforward path toward wisdom, so he insisted. Prince Khan had sort of become his role model, so he would copy him, even if he wasn’t there, even if the Prince hadn’t been on Coravis for over a year.

Garret adjusted himself in his seat before casually glancing at the holographic screen to his right. Trackers, communication channels, and other labels shone on it, but everything stood still. Only the clock kept moving, having reached the high count of over one year and three months.

‘He should run out of fuel soon,’ Garret calculated. ‘What is even taking him so long? Did he find another ungodly creature to kill?’

Garret shook his head and diverted his gaze to focus on other holographic screens, but a beeping noise suddenly reached his ears, and his face snapped to his right again.

The screen didn’t show anything, but Garret knew he hadn’t hallucinated. As tired as he was, he was still fit for that job. Garret wouldn’t have allowed himself to work otherwise.

Garret stared at the screen, waiting. An entire silent minute passed, but his gaze never faltered, and the holograms eventually proved him right. A beeping noise resounded again, and the tracker finally showed stable signs of life.

Garret hurriedly pushed every other hologram away to summon a star map, activating all kinds of functions to stabilize that connection, but something arrived before he could complete those tasks. The communication channel suddenly opened, and a robotic, unclear voice came from the interactive desk.

“Cora-,” Garret heard. “D-. Yo-. Receive-?”

“Prince Khan!” Garret gasped, using a far louder voice than he would like to admit. His hands moved even faster, disregarding the previous tasks to enhance and stabilize that communication channel.

“Coravis,” The voice resounded again, this time, more stable and less robotic. “Do you receive me?”

“We receive you, My Prince,” Garret said in a calmer tone, still tinkering with the interactive desk. “Garret here. I’m glad to find you alive and well.”

“About that,” Khan replied from the other end of the interactive desk. “I might need a rescue team.”

“Is something the matter, My Prince?” Garret asked, already notifying various soldiers. “Are you injured?”

“It’s not that,” Khan reassured. “I did the overclock thing from the guides, but the engines ate all the fuel. I had to use the thrusters to dodge a few celestial bodies and adjust my course, but they are gone, too, now.”

“Are you unable to stop?” Garret wondered. “Can’t you redirect the oxygen to the thrusters?”

“Already did that,” Khan explained. “I can kick the ship to a stop, but I’d be stuck in space afterward. Replacing the internal atmosphere will also deplete the remaining oxygen reserves, so I need someone to pick me up.”

Garret couldn’t help but blink. He wasn’t surprised by the fact that Prince Khan could manually stop the ship. Garret was mostly speechless about how easily he accepted that idea. Still, he didn’t let that surprise slow down his hands.

“I’ll track your current trajectory, My Prince,” Garret declared. “I’ll send a few teams to intercept you, so don’t kick anything until they are close!”
