Chapter 123: Peter…
Rory
“The reason I asked us to meet up was because I have good news to share.” Raya began, cheeks stretched out in a wide smile as she stared at me from across the table between us. Once upon a time I still held a little anger towards her, but that was now in the past. I had fully moved on from that incident and i’ve grown to genuinely care for her once again. I leaned forward in my seat, waggling my eyebrows.
“Spill the tea then.” I urged and she practically bounced in her seat before finally speaking.
“I’m getting married!” She announced and held her left hand ii and that was when I noticed the fing around her middle finger. I gaped at her for a few moments before getting off my seat to embrace her in a tight hug.
“Oh, my! Raya! I can’t believe this!” I gushed out, taking her hand in mine and squeezing around it. Being this close to revealed how her face was partially glowing right now. knI
Raya robbed herself of so much after her husband, Trevor got locked up. struggled with forgiving herself for falling for him and believing all his lies. It’s been almost four years and at this point, I believe she deserves nothing but happiness.
After I told her those same words, tears welled in her eyes and we embraced each other again. After she collected herself again, we returned back to our seats and she dabbed at her eyes.
“So, who’s the lucky guy?” I asked and this time, a little blush appeared across her cheeks as she stared pointedly at her cup of champagnes.
“A professor. He’s young and good looking. I know he doesn’t make as much as Trevor did in the past but I have more than enough to last me for a lifetime. And, I love him like that and now I no longer pocket watch.” She explained and I cooed, feeling genuinely happy for her right now.
“How long were you two together?” I asked and she hummed.
“About two months.” She revealed and I paused the drink I was about to sip on.
“A few months?” I asked slowly and she nodded vigorously, smiling brightly.
“Yes. I know it’s super fast, but Peter is like the best man ever out there. He’s perfect to be honest. He’s kind, he’s honest, he’s sweet… he’s just too perfect.” She explained and I hummed. I wasn’t feeling that excited anymore and it was because now I was suspecting something.
“Are you sure you guys aren’t moving too fast? A few months isn’t enough to get to know someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.” I explained and she shrugged, giggling softly.
“There’s nothing wrong about going fast though. And we can keep getting to know each other after getting married. It’s gonna be perfect, Rory. You’ll love him, I promise.” Sha continued and this time, I resisted the urge to snort.
“I hope so.” I ended up responding and she whipped out her phone and showed me a few pictures of him. I stared at the pictures closely and a bad feeling settled in my stomach, one I didn’t know how to place my fingers on. It was weird and unexpected. This man was good looking and young, but there was still something else about him, something bad. Of course, I didn’t know how to tell Raya about that because apart from the fact that she clearly wouldn’t believe me, the two of us weren’t close to the extent of advancing each other on personal matters like this.
I handed her the phone back and sighed when she asked me what I thought.
“I still think it’s too fast.” I offered but she waved me off.
“Stop being paranoid, Rory. Nothings gonna happen.” Sha said and for her sake, I hoped so.
“So, when’s the wedding taking place?”
“In a week.” She announced and I gaped at her. This made everything more suspicious.
“A week?? That’s… that’s very fast.” I breathed out and she laughed.
“I know, right? We’re just so excited.” She responded and I frowned at her; trying to figure out the clear ulterior motive in this whole thing.
“Is this Peter guy aware of the fact that you have so much money due to Trevor’s wealth?” I asked and this time, she frowned a little as she nodded.
“Aha! That’s definitely why he wants to get married to you, to get his hands on your money.” I pointed out and Raya blinked slowly before frowning at me again.
“I don’t know, Rory… that’s a bold accusation. Which is offensive because you don’t even know him.” She said this time, frown still on her face. I shook my head as I made to speak.
“No, Raya. That wasn’t what I meant. I wasn’t accusing him, I was just guessing, I guess? Because all of this isn’t making sense to me.” I explained and she folded her arms, appearing angry and hurt. Making me curse underneath my breath.
“You accused him though. And I- I don’t like it.” She continued and I sighed again.
“I’m sorry if I crossed a line. I didn’t mean it that way and of course I respect your decision.” I informed her and she nodded halfheartedly, making me silently berate myself for crossing a line.
“Anyways, the wedding is happening in a week.” She continued and this time, a weird feeling was in the atmosphere.

“I’ll send over two invites.” She went on and I held a finger up.
“You’ll have to make that three.” I told her and she arched a brow. Her confusion was understandable since she doesn’t know about Jason.
“Someone is gonna accompany you and your boyfriend?” She asked and I hummed with a nod. There was no point of me telling her who Jason was, at least not now that our relationship wasn’t official yet.
“Okay!” She agreed and I flashed her a grin, then I picked up my glass of drink.
“Cheers to you.” I said and she giggled as she clicked her glass against mine.
“Cheers to us.” She added and we both threw our drinks back.

On exiting the restaurant, at the handle of my car door, a handkerchief was curled around it and I stare at it in confusion before pulling it off, wondering who put it here. As it fell, a folded paper fell out of it. A frown formed across my face as I bent down to pick it up, and then I opened the paper. It was a handwritten note and I began to read it.
my lovely betrothed bride.
Hello, Rory. It is I, your betrothed husband, Alexander.
It’s been ages. How have you been?
You’re reading this message because I feel like you deserve a heads up after all this years before you get to be in my presence again. Remember the debt your father owed my father? It’s still unsettled and the agreement was for you to get married to me. That agreement was never broken, and that technically meant you’re indebted to me.
Keep an eye out. I’ll come for you as soon as I can, darling.
With love,
Your loving husband-to-be, Alexander.
My hands shook as I read the letter over and over and I mistakenly dripped the letter. Before I could pick it up, the wind picked it up and deposited it right into the waterfall beside me. I let out a ragged sigh, unable to believe what had just happened. After getting a mysterious letter from Alex, I’d have no proof to show of that. Does this mean the universe was on Alex’s side?
I shivered, feeling extremely creeped out because this only meant that Alex knew where I lived and definitely knew the school the kids attend. I suddenly felt sick to my stomach, making me throw up the little content in it. As I tried catching my breath, my eyes darted around because it suddenly felt like I was being watched from every angle.
Of course, I didn’t find anything, which made me feel like I was actually going crazy. If I still had the letter with me, that would have still been a reminder to myself that I wasn’t making all of this up.
When I got into my car in the next moment, I didn’t take long to drive out of the parking lot. I felt extremely uncomfortable and had to keep glancing backward, trying to make sure I wasn’t being followed.
Instead of heading straight home, I headed for the kids school first, confirming that they were in school and not kidnapped or something. I could still vividly remember how mad Alex could be and a series of memories suddenly flooded my mind.
After that, I drove straight home, and how I didn’t get into an accident was nothing but sheer luck, because I lost control of the steering wheel more than five times.
As soon as I stepped into the house, the panic attack started. I didn’t hear anything, only static sound before I collapsed and blacked out.
