Chapter 157: the journey
Rory
“Rory, meet the three people who’d be assisting us. Mylo, Issa and Jeremy.” Ella introduced me to three guys who had the same skin as hers. They all looked so gorgeous that it was almost impossible to comprehend: their hairs were flowing so much as well, and they all offered me warm smiles as they all stepped forward to hug me tightly. I had thought they’d regard me weirdly since I was certain Ella already told them I’d like to return back to earth. And for that, I’m very glad.
“So, we’ll leave by dawn tomorrow. But for now, why don’t we all get to know each other? Then you can tell us about yous experiences on earth because we’re very intrigued that you experienced something so good that you want to return back to it.” Mylo said this time and I grew a little tense before nodding in agreement. I’d have preferred to stay by myself so I could think about my life but I also didn’t want to turn down the people who are gonna be helping me out in the next three days.
Which was why after I agreed, they all huddled ma forward and in no time, we got into some sort of hut. But the inside of it was decorated exquisitely and it looked just as beautiful as every other part of this world looked.
We were all ushered to a table and drinks were served, but when I tasted it, I tasted nothing. Ella was quick to assure me that after 3 days, I’ll be able to do everything they do here, which included that.
I let out a sigh as I tried to focus on the conversation at hand. The guys were teasing each other and it looked so much like they were really close friends.
“In case you’re wondering how we all got sent back here since unlike Ella who’s yet to be sent to earth, the rest of us have been sent before. And our experiences were different shades of horrible. We thankfully couldn’t remember most of it, bit our spirit was already weakened because of that when we returned here. After we turned back into what we actually are, our spirits returned to its normal state. But we can all feel how strong your energy is, which means you weren’t lying when you said you wanted to return because of the life you left behind.” Jeremy spoke this time and I nodded once he was done speaking before nodding.
“Yeah, you’re right. And I’m so sorry over how much you all suffered on earth.” I offered but they all waved me off, assuring me that it’s been ages so now they’re over it.
“But are you really sure you want to leave? If that ends up working and you end up getting sent back to your old life, you might not end up remembering a thing from this life. And if you do leave like you want to, you’ll lose out of all the perks of remaining here… because if you do remain here, you’ll slowly grow into your powers.” Issa spoke this time and I felt my eyes widened as I stared between all their faces.
“Powers? You all have powers??” I asked and they all nodded while chuckling at my expression. I had thought Ella was the only one who had powers so far and I had kind of forgotten about that till right now.
“Of course, and so do you, you just can’t know what your gift is just yet. You can only know what your gift is after spending at least a year down here.” Ella spoke this time and when my eyes only widened further, she continued, waving at her friends. “That’s the only reason why I told you we’d be needing extra help, because everyone has separate gifts, and we’d need those separate gifts. Mylo has supernatural strength, Issa is faster than the waves, and Jeremy can control lights and shadows.” She explained and I felt my mind reel as I tried to process all what I had just heard.
“Wow.” I breathed out and they all hummed.
“So do you still wanna leave? If you do, you’ll miss out on that.” Ella added this time and I glanced down at my fingers while sighing softly. While all what they were saying about magic sounded intriguing and nice, I honestly couldn’t be bothered about that. I was content enough with what I had, which was a happy family. Knowing that Jason might indeed be dead made everything worse, because magic won’t make up for his loss, and it would be pretty useless to me if it can’t help in bringing Jason back to life.
I exhaled as I finally glanced up.
“You know what, guys? While all what you’ve just said sounds nice, I still wanna go home.” I admitted quietly and Ella let out a small sigh before shrugging and nodding.
“Alright then. We leave at dawn.”
“I don’t know how to repay you all for what you’re about to hear. Thank you all so much.” I called out with my hands clasped before me. Mylo snorted before waving me off.
“Don’t thank us yet because it might not end up amounting to anything. At the end of the day, it depends on the decision of the Queen mother. Just hope she’s in a good mood by the time we get to her,”
My stomach tightened in the next moment and I swallowed emptily.
“Is she usually in a bad mood?” I asked and they all exchanged looks first before snorting.
“You haven’t the slightest idea.”

At the start of the journey, I was certain it was gonna be really hard. Especially where we got to the part where we shifted from everywhere feeling normal to everywhere feeling like an actual sea, whereby we had to begin actual swimming. The others didn’t have a problem except me. Breathing wasn’t the problem. Kicking my feet was. At the end, I began to slow them down till Jeremy decided to hold my hand, and from there on, swimming was way easier and smoother. The friends talked and chatted throughout the whole journey. At certain points, they even tried pulling me into the conversations and while I appreciated their efforts to keep me involved, my mind was too unfocused since I was either thinking of my family back on earth or I was silently praying that the Queen mother will be in a good mood by the time we get there; then she’ll listen to me and grant me my heart desire.
On the second day, I got hit with a wave of depression. At a point, I bursted out into tears as grief gripped my chest so hard that I struggled to breathe for about five minutes. The grief was so chilling and cloying that I didn’t stop gasping for breath till hands grabbed my wrist and squeezed tightly.
Later, I realized that it was Issa who had done that, and when I went up to thank him after hours had passed, he assured me that it was alright, and he also made me realize that he sometimes feels those stabbing pulses of grief but he wishes he could know why they come and go, or if he could remember what was triggering those feelings.
At the end of the second day, I was in a low mood and chose to sit far away from the group while they ate. I didn’t need to eat or drink since my body didn’t need them yet. I noticed a finger of mine was starting to turn blue and that was already making me panic. The group assured me that that I had nothing to worry about if the queen mother would listen to me and help me out. The issue here is if she’d actually help or not,
On the third day, my arms and legs were blue and I felt like a walking dead. This was also the day we began to encounter actual obstacles that require the group to use their magic. I witnessed it at work and was beyond awed at how different and unique each person’s magic was.
“You’re fully blue.” Ella said after they had cleared up the obstacles and she had returned here to get me. Then I glanced into the nearest mirror and was so shocked that I almost fainted. I was blue from head to toe.
Ella asked me if I still remembered things from my past life at this point and after briefly running through my mind, I realized that I really still remember all of my memories. After nodding at her, she smiled wearily.

“I guess you’re really destined to return back to earth. And we’ve finally arrived at the Queen Mother’s home. You only need to through that entrance. If you’re worthy; she’ll appear to you and help you out. If you’re not, you’d become her latest dinner.”
