Chapter 167: impossible
Rory
What’s happening? How is this possible?
I let my eyes fall close for a moment and the feeling of Kenny in my heart was so intense, it made a breath of disbelief whoosh right out of my lungs.
Oh gosh!
It really is Kenny!
But how? How is this possible?
Kenny and I are yet to be officially mated, like I was also yet to be officially mated to Jason. Which means I wasn’t supposed to feel Kenny in my heart right now like I was currently doing. In fact, it’s completely impossible. So, how?
I let out another breath as he pulsed in my heart once more, bringing along with it a wave of familiarity and comfort. I suddenly felt a wave of longing engulf me in the next moment and I didn’t realize tears rolled down my cheeks till they fell on my arm.
I instantly wiped them off, letting out a shaky breath. When I glanced up again, Ace was regarding me with an unsure expression, worry still swimming in his eyes. I swallowed emptily and averted my gaze just as he stepped forward to take my shoulders in his hold.
“Are you okay? Why are you crying?” He asked but I shrugged his hands off and turned away from him, letting my eyes fall close as I tried to feel Kenny again.
Unfortunately; he was gone, like he was never here. There was no trace of his presence in every corner of my heart but I was more than certain that I had felt him moments ago. I squeezed my eyes tight and focused harder and that was when I picked up a pulsing pain. It was seated in the middle of my chest, In the exact spot I had felt Kenny from. That made me frown and try to figure it out, and in a few seconds, I realized that this pain wasn’t mine. It was Kenny, and it was so intense that it was bleeding into my chest, and something like this should genuinely only be possible after we’ve officially mated.
As soon as I blinked my eyes open, I raked my hands through my hair and began to pace around, while trying to figure out why I had felt that amount of pain from Kenny. Was he in danger right now? Is that it? Or is he hurt? Why did that kind of intense amount of pain emit from him and why was it intense enough for me to have been able to feel it?
“What’s happening, Rory?” Ace called out from behind me while I kept pacing. When I ignored him; he walked around to block me.
“You’re starting to scare me. What’s wrong?” He asked, sounding a little panicked but also concerned. I let out a sigh of frustration.
“I felt my mate, okay? And I’m trying to make sense of what I felt.” I told him bristly and his eyes widened.
“Oh. Both of them?” He asked and my entire body stiffened before I tensely shook my head, my tongue feeling too heavy in my mouth.
“Just one.”
“What about the other one?”
I shrugged, my throat feeling tight. “I- I don’t know if he’s still alive.” I admitted quietly and Ace’s eyes widened again, understanding quickly filling his eyes.
“Oh, Rory… I’m so sorry,” he whispered and I glared at him, shoving him back.
“No, don’t be, because he’s alive, okay? He just has to be!” He gritted out and tugged on my hair once. “That bastard Alex shot him but I’m hoping he survived it. I believe he did.” As I spoke, my voice was way more steady than I expected and I kept desperately wishing that my hope would end up coming to pass. That Jason would be alive.
But what if that was why I felt that amount of pain from Kenny? What if it’s because that was the moment Jason died??
I shook my head firmly, angrily shoving those thoughts out of my mind. I shouldn’t be thinking about negative stuff like that right now. What I need to focus on are positive things. Jason is okay, Kenny is okay, and when I return home, we’d be a happy family again. That’s exactly what’s gonna happen.
Yup.
“Shouldn’t we start to leave now though? At this point, it’s by sheer luck that we’re yet to be caught because there’s no way those guys are yet to know that Alex has been killed.” Ace broke the silence, eying me skeptically and I exhaled and dragged a palm over my face before nodding once.
“You’re right: we should get going.” I muttered and he nodded enthusiastically.
“Yup. And hopefully we find a way out of this forest as possible.” He added and I hummed with a nod. That’s the only thing we needed to do. Should we get to civilization again, all I’d need to do is to borrow a phone and make a few important calls and people would instantly come get us.
However, as soon as I took a step forward, a pressing feeling settled over my entire body in the same moment, disagreeing with me moving.

The voice said within me.
I frowned in confusion and assumed I had heard wrong, but when I took a second step, the voice repeated the same thing and my eyes instantly widened as I tried to figure out why the voice was asking me to stay when Ace and I are supposed to keep walking forward. This being within me that sometimes tells me what to do has never been wrong, which was why even though it felt like the most stupid thing to do in this situation, I stopped walking and let my eyes fall close while I try to fully dissect that single word.
Stay.
“Rory? What are you doing?? Let’s get moving!” He called out sharply, piercing through my thoughts and shattering the calmness around me and the connection that was starting to form within me.
I leveled him with a frown.
“We’re not moving,” I informed him and he blanched.
“I need to fully understand something and I need to meditate a bit. Don’t interrupt me.” I informed him before letting my eyes close again. I knew he’d undoubtedly have a lot of questions to ask but I was thankful that he wasn’t interrupting me right now. My mind then fully settled and my soul was able to wrap around that soft unidentifiable voice within me. I let all my thoughts fall away and fully focused on that voice, and that was when it clicked within me.
With a startled gasp, my eyes flew open before darting around till it landed on a frustrated Ace. I beaconed him over and he reluctantly trudged towards me.
“We’ll get out of here soon.” I tell him and he frowned.
“I doubt that since you’ve yet to move from that spot.” He muttered and I rolled my eyes.
“That’s because we’re gonna do that telepathically!” I told him and his eyes widened just as his mouth fell open in clear shock.
That’s right.
Telepathically.

“Are you sure of what you’re doing?” Ace asked for the hundredth time and I groaned as my eyes flew open. My hand around his tightened till he groaned from pain.
“Stop talking, you’re ruining the connection and flow!”
“But we’ve been in this position for hours at this point and nothing has happened!” He argued in response and I sighed.
Even i had my doubts as well when that voice inside me said we’d only be wasting our time if we keep walking forward because we were unknowing walking in circles, and that the only way out was this way, through magic. I didn’t even know that was possible, or that I possess any kind of magic. The only time I figured out there was something a little special about me was when Alex said those things about my blood. Anything aside that was completely unknown to me, like the fact that I apparently had untapped magic inside me.
I was almost convinced that it was my inner self who made all that stuff up Inside my mind. But at the end, I realized it was still that voice. The same voice that had never been wrong since the moment it began to act as an instinct of mine.
“Close your eyes, Ace. Let your mind be empty. And just believe that this would work. Kick all doubts out.” I said to him and he huffed, nose scrunched up.
“Ugh fine, but I feel ridiculous just so you know.” He sighed out before his eyes fell close. I let mine fall close right after and I made my mind go empty, my hold softening strong ace’s hands. I willed on the teleportation to work, trying to picture where I’d like us to be taken to. I ended up coming up with nothing except the image of Kenny and Jason.
The air instantly shifted around us and I gasped, just as Ace yelped and frailed but I tightened my hold on him and kept my eyes tightly shut as the world shifted around us.
And when I blinked my eyes open, I realized Ace and I were in the middle of a hospital ward. On turning my head sideways, I gasped at the sight of two familiar people.
