Chapter 178: Severing ties
Rory
As soon as those words left my mouth, Jason’s mouth went into a thinner line as he reached for my hand.
“Rory, don’t pay her any heed.” He admonished while Kenny nodded as he stepped closer to us.
“I remember her accusing you of wanting to ruin her wedding. She’s a horrible person who definitely doesn’t deserve you.” Jenny announced and I laughed a little at the end of his sentence, but I couldn’t deny that he was making a lot of sense.
“That’s right. And didn’t she believe that Trevor over you despite you two being friends? She’s always gonna be that dumb friend that will pick a man over anything else.” Jason bit Oye and at the mention of Trevor, a flood of memories swam through my mind immediately. Once upon a time, with Raya and Trevor, I thought I had discovered a found family for myself, one that’s similar to a favorite trope of mine when it came to books. But it soon ended up coming to an end right before me.
I let out a sigh as I laid my hands on my mates chest.
“Guys, I’m not going out there to invite her in.” I began.
I might have a very good compassionate heart but even I have a limit. And Raya had gotten to that fucking limit. It’s high time I show her that my foot is now on the ground when it comes to her. Like Jenny had said, she really doesn’t deserve me and I didn’t mean it in a gloating way.
Despite her accusing me of wanting to ruin her wedding, when I saw her new husband and his actual wife and kids together, I could have turned a blind eye like my mates asked me to. But because I still liked her and wanted to still look out for her, I confronted him and even called her. But of course she threw my kindness right into my face and literally asked me to go fuck myself. And that’s definitely why I was able to get kidnapped, and of course she didn’t even notice that I was gone.
Which is why she didn’t deserve me and why I definitely wouldn’t be giving her another chance, and that’s if she’s here to apologize.
“Why are you going to see her? Just ignore her.” Jason spoke, looking very unimpressed.
“Yes, just do that. I closed the door in her face anyway but she’s definitely still out there.” Kenny informed us and as if on cue, the bell went off again, and this time, it was accompanied with a bang on the gate and the sound of Raya’s voice calling out my name.
Jason huffed and rolled his eyes in irritation. “The sheer audacity of that woman.” He let out a scoff and I couldn’t stop myself from laughing softly.
“Guys, it’s not that serious, stop looking so murderous.” I informed the two of them with a soft laugh but they didn’t crack a smile.
“It feels serious to me because If you didn’t leave to go call her that day, you’d have been with me all through; then you definitely wouldn’t have gotten kidnapped.” Jason spoke and I sighed, realizing that he was right, and understanding why he and Kenny hated Raya this much now.
I got on my tippy toes and brushed my lips against their cheeks.
“What that matters is that I’m here now and we’re all together, yes?” I began and they both nodded after a few seconds and I beamed at them.
“I just need to go speak to her, to set a few things straight and that would be all.” I assured them and Jenny finally nodded, relenting.
“Fine, but we’ll come with you.” He announced and Jason instantly nodded, and I ended up nodding after a few moments.
“Fine, but don’t get involved. I’ll handle it myself, okay?”

Raya was pacing left to right and right to left when I stepped out of the gate. My mates ended up agreeing to stand at the other side of the gate and listen in instead of coming outside here with me. I thought that was for the better which was why I suggested it.
As soon as she noticed me, she stiffened, her familiar face brightening up, right before she rushed forward to throw her arms around my shoulders.
“Rory!” She gushed out just as I stiffened. Her arms tightened around my shoulders as she went ahead to bury her face in my throat. “Oh, how I’ve missed you so much.” She sighed out and I stiffened even more, and then I reached behind my neck to gently untangle her hands, right before I tugged her away from me and dropped her hands.
The confusion across her face was almost laughable as she blinked at me slowly. She recovered quickly and took my hand in the next moment, a blinding smile across her face.
“My god, I’ve really missed you!” She sighed out, bouncing on her feet a little. She attempted to take my hand in her but I moved my hand away at the last moment and shoved my two hands into my pockets. At this point it was quite obvious that I was being very cold to her but I didn’t care.
I cleared my throat and regarded her pointedly.
“What do you want, Raya?” I asked in a flat voice and she fidgeted at first, moving her weight around and fiddling with her fingers, then she ended up letting out an awkward chuckle.
“Um, aren’t we gonna go in?” She asked after a few moments and I snorted before shaking my head once.
“Unfortunately, not.”

Her eyes widened in confusion.
“Why?” She asked and I held her eyes as I responded.
“Because you’re no longer welcomed into my home.” I announced and she let out a startled gasp, one which made me roll my eyes.
I waited for a few moments before clearing my throat and regarding her pointedly again.
“If you have nothing to say, I’m afraid I have to head back in…” I trailed off at the end of my sentence, watching as she stared at her feet for a few seconds before she suddenly burst out into tears, completely catching me off guard. She reached for my hand this time but I couldn’t bring myself to deny her content again, letting her hold my arm which was still nestled in my pocket. As I stared at her tear stricken face, the urge to comfort her swelled in my chest but I shoved those urges away, reminding myself that Raya didn’t deserve sympathy from me in any way.
Which was why I didn’t say a thing till she spoke.
“You- you were right, Rory. Peter really was after my money!” As soon as those words left her mouth, she slid to the ground and cried super hard. I remained in the same spot, feeling a little numb before finally letting out a sound filled with disbelief. Even though I had been convinced that I was right, this still wasn’t what I expected to hear from her. I had at least thought the Peter guy would spend longer before revealing his true colors.
“I was so stupid. I didn’t sign a prenup. I ignored all the signs, all the red flags, the warnings from you. Now he has taken all that I have and he has left! Leaving me with nothing!” She cried harder this time and I still remained silent for a few minutes. But I ended up sighing and shifting awkwardly.
“Wipe your eyes.” I said awkwardly and she glanced up at me from her crouched position, then she shuffled forward and grasped my feet.
“You were right, and I accused you wrongly. Even when you called me, I still didn’t believe you. For that, I’m so sorry. Please find it in your heart to forgive me.” She cried harder this time, her face mushed against my pants and soaking it with her tears.
I remained in the same position, letting out a small huff, and then I crouched before her. I pulled out a towel from my pocket and offered it to her, and she wiped her face whole her tears ebbed away.
As I stared at her right now, some of the memories we shared together rushed through my mind at that very moment. But at the end of it all, I made sure to remind myself that some good things just have to come to an end.
“Raya… I’ll help you with money, for you and Matilda. You helped me when I had no one else, when Niko was unborn, so of course I’ll come through for you.” I told her as I helped her to her feet. Her eyes brightened and filled up with tears just as she attempted to launch into my chest, but I held her away and shook my head, a grim expression across my face.
“But we can’t be friends any longer.”
