Chapter 40: Nerves
Rory
I felt beyond pleased with myself as I headed home from the cafe. For the first time in ages, it felt like I have done something for someone instead of it always being done to me over and over again.
I spent about three hours in the cafe with Raya before we finally parted ways. She told me she was gonna start packing her things before he returns from his trip tomorrow, and that she’d present him with divorce papers once he arrives. She also took her time to thank me for doing this, explaining that this just means I was indeed a good person because whereas I could decide to start fucking her man after she threw me out, I still did the right thing at the end of the day.
I admitted to her that I was beyond hurt by how she instantly believed I could do that, along with the fact that she said I was just like other omegas. She apologized profusely for that and I assured her that it was alright.
I genuinely felt pity for her in all of this, because when trying to look at it from another perspective, then I could understand why she’d believe the man she loved and have a child with, over someone she has only known for a few months.
I wished her all the best and even handed her the $5k Trevor sent to me last night. She tried getting me to take it and use it for anything I wanted but I insisted on her taking it before she ended up accepting it.
Before we parted ways, she asked me if I’d be open to living with her again, and I politely declined. She helped me tremendously when I had no one else to offer me help, and for that I’d be forever grateful, but the trust I had in her was completely gone after she threw me out that way. Throwing me out of her house that day hadn’t even been the real issue, the real issue was her not even bothering to listen to my own narrative before coming up with a conclusion.
She tried promising me that something like this wasn’t gonna happen ever again and that we could be besties again and start living together when she moves out from her husband’s house, and once again, I declined the offer and urged her to not be worried about me because I was managing fine on my own. I also made sure to remind her that I wasn’t angry with her and that we could definitely still hang out, and that I’d also be there whenever she needed someone to talk to.
That night, I slept peacefully.
But the next morning, I was nervous because today was the day Trevor was returning from his trip and I knew a lot of things could happen today. Knowing how smart he is, I knew he could still end up convincing his wife to stay with him, which would in turn put me in a whole lot of trouble with him.
Raya texted me before I left for the restaurant where I worked, and I wished her good luck before exiting the house.

This morning at the restaurant started off really busily, and as I was trying to deliver an order to a table with impatient customers sitting around it, I ended up colliding with someone, which ended with coffee being spilled everywhere. I yelped as the hot liquid burnt my hand, and on looking up, to my horror, I realized that the person I had ran into had a large brown stain over his white shirt which he was trying to hold away from his chest. The cups were shattered between us on the ground and some onlookers were already staring.
I panicked, unsure of what to do first.
“I’m so sorry.” I whispered frantically to the man, nerves getting the best of me and then I hurried to the kitchen to get some water.
“That’s getting deducted from your salary, for your information.” The owner of the cafe, a buff man, informed me with a sneer before I scrambled out of the kitchen.
“Can you help me get my table?” I asked one of the waiters, a beta who I had formed a little rapport with since I started working here. He instantly went off to do that and I went to the man whose shirt I had ruined, offering him the water and towel as he was getting off the call.
“I’m so sorry about your shirt, I didn’t see you there.” I apologized quietly, beyond mortified. When I glanced up at the man, as soon as his scent hit me, I realized that he was an alpha. He sighed as he scrubbed the wet towel against his shirt.
“It’s alright, I know it was a mistake.” He informed me and I found myself relaxing.
“However, since I cannot show up at my meeting like this, I had to reschedule it.” He explained and I felt extremely shitty and I apologized again.
However, he chuckled and urged me to relax and that he really wasn’t blaming me, then he handed me the towel and I accepted it awkwardly, feeling everyone’s eyes on us right now.
“I’m gonna go…” I began after clearing my throat, but then his brows furrowed as he stared at me closely.
“Wait… aren’t you the omega I and a few people saw passed out by the road a few months ago, whom we helped to the hospital. But when I went back, you were already gone.” The alpha suddenly said, eyes widened and I stiffened at once.
“I- I…” I stuttered and he leaned forward to sniff at me and my cheeks colored from embarrassment.
“It’s really you! The hospital said you went by… Rory, isn’t that right?” He continued and I coughed awkwardly before asking him to step outside with me.
Once away from curious eyes, I admitted that indeed, I was the omega he helped to the hospital a few months ago and I thanked him for that.
“So, how have you been?” He asked after a few moments but before I could respond, my phone rang and I pulled it out of my pocket.
It was Trevor, and I accepted the call after hesitating a little.
“You stupid, cheap whore, how dare you trick me?? So you recorded our entire conversation and now Raya is asking for a divorce! How fucking dare you???”
