Chapter 75: Shock
Jason
I was beyond stunned and that wasn’t an exaggeration in any way. I stared at the door long after it slammed close, but I felt frozen in place and unable to move an inch.
I might have believed that I had imagined the whole thing up but I knew I hadn’t because I had stopped thinking about the omega for a long time. After searching and searching to no avail, I ended up giving up and concluding that he had ended up dead. However, right now, with the way his vanilla scent was still clinging to the air in the atmosphere, long after he had left, I knew that I hadn’t imagined anything. He had really been here.
I scrubbed my hand over my face and took the seat beside my grandmother’s bed again, and as my eyes fell on her peaceful face, a bitter chuckle bubbled out of my throat. I didn’t realize the omega my grandmother had always told me about was the same one I had searched for over and over again.
Was this a part of the moon goddess joke? Apart from the fact that she made me lose my wolf, she also made it be that my mate whom I rejected was here this whole time?
When I got a call yesterday’s evening that my grandmother had suffered a really severe attack, I had instantly flown down here, because even though I refused to go see her, I actually still like her and wouldn’t want her to die. I had remained here throughout the night because I had been too drained to really do anything more.
My mind traveled back to Rory and I found myself cursing underneath my breath. How the hell was he really here?
He didn’t look like I remembered. He looked way better, he had practically been glowing and it was as if his beauty had tripled since the last time I saw him.
I dug my hand into my hair and pulled on it, wondering who the hell that alpha beside him was. He had draped his hand over Rory’s shoulder and referred to him as ‘love.’
I instantly felt sick and I had to get to my feet and start pacing around. My eyes caught the flowers they brought along with them and I scowled at it, feeling tempted to pick it up and fling it out of the room’s window.
Rory wasn’t the same one I knew three years ago. The Rory that snapped at me and glared at me with so much hatred felt so different.
I could vividly remember how he stumbled over most of his words back then. The Rory who spoke to me was very very confident, and that made me silently wonder just how much he had changed since the last time.
A part of me felt angry. I have been miserable in the last three years. My life never got better, it only got worse and worse, all because I rejected Rory. However, it didn’t look like Rory suffered one bit. If anything, he looked like he lived a very calm and easy life while I suffered tremendously.
After the essence of my enigma wolf withered down to that of a regular alpha, because I was too mortified and always feeling weird and inferior about that, since a year ago, I decided to start wearing scent blockers. It’s better for people to think I don’t have a wolf than for them to see me as a regular alpha. All my life I’ve lived as an enigma and it was something else entirely to adjust to the fact that I’d be regarded as a regular alpha.

The door opened and in came the doctor who I spoke to on arriving last night. He greeted me and walked towards my grandmother to check her vitals.
“She should be awake before the end of tomorrow.” He told me and I gave a stiff nod, still feeling extremely agitated because of the unexpected encounter I had today.
Before the doctor could leave, I stopped him to ask him a question.
“You have access to my grandmother’s personal information, right? I need you to give me the number of the second person in her emergency contact list.” I said to the doctor who was staring at me wearily.
“I can’t do that, sir. That’s a breach of trust which is prohibited.” He responded calmly and anger instantly flared within me. The doctor was clearly judging me and I wanted to punch his face. If my wolf hadn’t chosen to turn dormant, the sheer aura of my engina wolf would have this regular alpha doctor cowering at once. But the fact that I had scent blocked would make the doctor believe I was an ordinary human.
“Look, I need it okay?!” I demanded and the doctor’s lips tinned.
“I still can’t do that, I’m sorry.” He responded. Even when I offered some bribe, he still refused.
“The person whose contact you want to get through this means can get this hospital sued should he find out I was the one who gave it to you.” He explained, brows pinched and I wanted to assure him that Rory would never know I got his contact through this means, but something else in his response caught my attention.
“What do you mean by ‘he’d sue this hospital?’ Can someone like him do that?” I asked, resisting the urge to roll my eyes. Apart from the fact that this hospital was very influential, last I remembered, Rory wasn’t… well off.
However, the doctor’s eyes widened.
“You don’t know Mr. Saunches?” He asked and I assumed that was his surname. When I kept staring at him, he shook his head and began to leave.
“I suggest you look it up, Mr Darkwood.” He responded politely and then he was gone.
I let out an irritated scoff after he left, wondering why a simple thing was so hard for him to do.
I whipped my phone out and typed in Rory’s name, and I was beyond shocked by what I was met with.
