Chapter 98: Contemplations
Rory
I’d be lying if I say I wasn’t shocked. I was beyond shocked by what he had just said, because it was the last thing I expected him to say. I blinked once, closely staring at him, and on realizing that he was serious, I could only let out a low laugh of disbelief.
“Oh god, you’re actually being serious?” I muttered, resisting the urge to laugh, and by the tense nod Jason gave me, it was clear that he was forcing himself to do so.
I rolled my eyes and let out a small huff, and then I pointed a finger at him.
“You don’t even like my man, so why the hell should I even bother myself considering this suggestion of yours got a second?” I demanded, not missing the way his teeth gritted when I referred to Kenny as my man.
“It’s just for you to accept me and make our scents together, Ken and I won’t have any sort of contact or anything, this is between you and I, however, he can be present and just watch in those situations.” He continued and I let out another huff of disbelief. Enigmas were indeed audacious beings, the way he had all but drawn up a conclusion without waiting for a response.
“I think I’m gonna pass,” I tell him and almost immediately, a frown appeared across his face.
“Why?”
This time, I rolled my eyes.
“Well, not that I owe you an explanation or anything, but I’m very very certain kenny won’t accept something like this. If ke wasn’t even in the picture, I still won’t accept it, I don’t know what made you think you’re suddenly the one calling the shots here, but im still not interested in forgiving you anyway so I’ll pass.”
He spluttered for a few moments.
“You really won’t agree to do this with me?” He asked and I hummed with a nod.
“That’s exactly what I said, and why should I help you anyway? You’ve acted like an entitled prick to me since the moment we crossed paths again, and like that’s not enough, you’ve gotten into a fight with Kenny more than once, do you even think he’d be interested in agreeing to that ridiculous suggestion just to help you, hm?” I questioned and he pursed his lips, going silent for a few minutes, and then he broke the silence again.
“But you’re aware that if you don’t agree to do this for me, I won’t be able to help my child. He’s an enigma and you said he needs me. Because I’d only be able to actually help him after my wolf wakes up from its dormant state.”
I spluttered, feeling extremely appalled as his words echoed through my head for a few seconds, and then anger began to grow within me.
“Are you suddenly using my child for your own selfish desires?” I demanded angrily, feeling myself grow more and more appalled as the seconds went by. “It’s barely been an hour since you found out you have a child, you’re yet to even meet him, and yet, you want to start using him already? Why are you like this and what the hell is your problem?” I demanded angrily again and Jason remained silent while massaging his forehead.
“I wasn’t trying to use him though, that would be disgusting of me! I really didn’t, I was genuinely concerned and worried about him and I still am, and that’s the only reason I mentioned it, because I want to help him out as fast as possible. Do you think I’m happy about the fact that I never got to know of my son’s existence until today? It’s saddening and heartbreaking and I’ve been sitting here wondering how much time of his life that I’ve lost and won’t be able to get back. It hurts, Rory, it does. So I’d never use him for any selfish reason.”
Once he was done speaking, I realized that I was gaping at him and I hurriedly closed my mouth just as I felt all the anger within me instantly whoosh away, leaving me to sit and feel stunned as the minutes stretched out between us.
I ended up awkwardly clearly my throat. “I was just being protective, I’m always like that when it comes to Niko,” I muttered and Jason nodded tensely this time, returning back to staring into his empty cup on the table before him.
“Where did you go though? After you left my house, where did you go? I looked for you everywhere but you were nowhere to be found.” He explained and I huffed before shrugging a little.
“That’s because I got kidnapping.”
His eyes widened a little as he leaned forward once again,
“Kidnapped by who?”
I shrugged again and responded. “By Alex.” I revealed before continuing. “Remember that dey you had to hide me from Alex. Well, after you sent me away, I got caught by his men and taken to him and after he beat me up, he locked me up, but someone managed to help me escape and that’s exactly how I successfully escaped that pack.” I explained and the shock across Jason’s face was starkly obvious.
“Damn.” He muttered and I let out a huff.
“That’s only a tip of the ice berg though. I went through a whole lot after escaping to this City, but I’m glad I was able to pull though at the end of it all.” I explained and Jason let out a low hum as he nodded his head in agreement to my statement.
“I was able to meet Kenny as well and he’s the best thing this city gave me.” I explained and Jason remained silent this time, pursing his lips and looking away from a moment and I rolled my eyes.
“Did you know grandma Nini was my grandmother when you guys crossed paths?” He ended up asking after a few minutes and I shook my head.
“I actually didn’t, because if I did, I definitely wouldn’t have accepted a dime from her, I wouldn’t even have allowed myself to get close to her at all, we’d have still been complete strangers till date,” I explained and he frowned.
“Why though?”

I rolled my eyes, “I’m sure you can figure that out yourself,” I muttered and he huffed, laughing a little.
“Why? Because you hated me? But would it even have mattered?”
Anger bristled within me a little. “Of course it would have mattered. Did you remember how you rejected me? Very cruelly, like my presence suddenly made you feel disgusted. You threw me out like I was trash, of course I hated and still hate you.” I paused before continuing. “I even learned from your butler that you were engaged and getting married the very next dey after you rejected me. So how was the marriage? And how’s your wife. Wait, you have a wife right?? So what are you doing here??!”
That completely slipped from my mind until this very moment and it felt so unbelievable to me.
Jason’s lips was in a thin line as he finally turned his head around and shook his head.
“I don’t have a wife, I ended up calling off that engagement.” He revealed and my mouth fell open from shock.
“You did? Why?!”
“Because of you.” He explained and I spluttered, feeling shocked once again.
“Because of me??! Why? Didn’t you love her?” I demanded and he pursed his lips and leaned back in his seat.
“Enough of that, none of it matters anymore. It’s in the past. What matters now is you talking to Kenny about what I suggested, and also you thinking about it yourself as well.” He explained and I felt myself frown a little before responding.
“Need I remind you of your obvious dislike for Kenny? Which is the exact way he hates you, so why are you still thinking this can work? You’re very barbaric and it doesn’t take you long to start punching Kenny, so this is me reminding you that it really won’t be able to work.” I calmly explained to him but he only let out a small huff before dragging his palm over his face and sighing loudly.
“I don’t know, okay? I just feel like it’s worth a shot.” He explained with a shrug and I sighed this time.
“Kenny is very level headed and logical, and he loves Niko like his own child, so he might agree to this only because of that. However, the actual issue here is you being able to keep your wolf under control and not attack him like you frequently do, when he’s literally my man.”
Jason visibly gritted his teeth. “He’s never calm whenever he’s around me though, he’s always angry, always glaring at me and clearly wishing he could kill me with his eyes,” Jason grumbled but I ignored him and rose to my feet, picking up my things.
“Just talk to Kenny about it and think about it as well, okay?” He called out as I turned to leave.
“No promises.” I called back at him.
