Chapter 167: Real Effect Of Voidheart?
In a training room, a black-haired boy stood. His face was covered in a plain black mask which didn’t even have an eyehole.

One might’ve even questioned how someone could look through it.

Alden didn’t have any problems looking through it. He didn’t have his Sword of Chaos in his hand – it still floated peacefully inside his shadow core.

He had decided to fight barehanded.

The reason?

To challenge himself—to push through his limits.

Alden had found out long ago: the more he pushes past his limit, the more he will grow in strength.

That was the main concept of his Supreme Ability. So he might as well embrace it.

But he wasn’t stupid enough to fight barehanded for every fight. He was only doing it now because he knew Cipher would save him if anything went wrong.

After all, she now believed his life was tied to her own daughter.

He had worn his veil of shadows back as soon as he exited Cipher’s office.

He didn’t have any intention to reveal his handsome face to anyone, especially since they didn’t even know his real identity.

Cipher had told him that she hadn’t shared her identity with anyone.

He looked at the front.

Opposite him stood a blonde boy who looked just slightly older than Alden.

His face is also covered by a plain white mask.

According to what Cipher had told him, his opponent Rane was a year older than him. He had Overlord rank potential.

The reason for his low rank despite that was because Rane was another person who had suffered from slavery.

He was sold as a slave when he had just awakened. So he couldn’t even grow his strength.

Fortunately, he was saved by Cipher and became her underling.

Although his rank was low, he balanced it with his high mastery over his spear skills.

Beside the arena, Cipher sat with Vanyaa and a mysterious figure with a hood covering his face.

For some reason, the guy gave Alden chills unconsciously.

Who the hell is he even?

He looks strong.

At least at the level of Jeremy.

Is he perhaps the leader of accord?

Alden dismissed his thoughts. He focused on his opponent only.

Everything blurred around him. His mind felt light. His thoughts turned rational.

He felt similar to when the mysterious skill activated when he had found the Sword of Chaos.

He felt confused for a moment.

What’s happening?

A screen popped up in front of him, erasing his confusion.

[Skill: Voidheart is activated strongly]

[Rationality is heightened]

Is this perhaps a hidden effect of Voidheart?

But he didn’t think much. His useless thoughts vanished. His mind was focused solely on analysing Rane.

“Begin.” Cipher’s voice interrupted his thoughts.

As soon as the voice left her mouth, Rane dashed at him.

His footwork is precise and fluid. His speed was also nothing to scoff at.

If this was a normal fight between minor levels, it would have been easy.

Although Rane was also higher than only a single minor level, he was in the Apprentice Rank.

The power difference increased between major ranks substantially.

So it was actually difficult.

Still, Alden was confident. Through all the trials and training. He understood one thing.

He had many skills and abilities, but his utilisation of them was shit.

He couldn’t use them properly.

If he did use them efficiently, he could probably even defeat someone two levels or even three minor levels higher than him.

He looked at the Rane coming towards him calmly.

His speed was fast, but to Alden’s Eyes of Supreme, it looked slow.

His Spirit Domain fed him all details surrounding him. He could even feel how Rane’s leg muscles tensed up and how his grip on his spear was slightly shifting.

He was planning to jump and thrust his spear downward.

As soon as Rane prepared to jump, Alden took a slight step to the left.

Rane’s spear thrust from upward to the position Alden had been in moments ago.

Alden didn’t attack immediately.

He needed to show his strength properly for once.

Rane wasn’t slow either. As soon as he understood his attack missed,.

He spun his spear from his ducked position.

Alden, who had already sensed that, just jumped quietly.

Rane’s spear passed from under him harmlessly.

Just then—a sudden shift.

Wind exploded outward from Rane as he activated his elemental affinity.

His spear glowed faintly, encased in a layer of cutting wind as he surged forward once more.

His speed spiked drastically, footwork nearly becoming a blur.

Wind manipulation.

So he has a wind element.

He was taking this seriously now.

Someone else would have panicked—but Alden was different. Especially with his rationality boosted.

He took a breath, then let mana flood through his legs.

Flicker Steps.

He activated one of the effects of his footwork technique–Dance of Chaos.

His body simply vanished. It wasn’t a teleportation. It was pure technique.

A chaotic one.

An afterimage of his was left behind where he previously stood—one that Rane attack hit dead centre with a powerful spear thrust.

But it vanished like a mirage as soon as it was attacked.

Rane’s eyes widened, realising too late.

Shadow Step.

Alden emerged from the shadow cast by Rane.

Rane twisted his body to counter—but Alden was faster.

He didn’t use brute force.

He used precision.

A coating of shadow energy appeared around his palm as he hit Rane’s wrist joint.

The spear slipped out of his hand.

Before it could hit the floor.

Alden used another burst—Flicker Step.

He’d only managed to integrate this movement technique properly in the last few days, and even then, his mastery was not so perfect.

But right now, it was enough.

Rane shifted his body wildly, trying to catch the shifting blur—but his strikes only hit smoke and illusion again.

Alden reappeared again—this time, above Rane.

He dropped down, fist coated in shadow energy, and slammed it into Rane’s shoulder.

Rane let out a low sound, collapsing to one knee. But Alden didn’t follow through with a final blow.

Instead, he placed two fingers against Rane’s neck.

A faint trace of his dark mana was present there.

“If I were serious,” Alden said calmly, “you’d be unconscious.”

Rane froze.

Cipher raised an eyebrow.

Even the hooded figure leaned slightly forward.

Silence stretched… then Cipher’s voice echoed across the training room.

“Winner—Alden.”
