Chapter 180: Truth Behind The Attack?
While Alden’s battle was ongoing…

Deep within the ancient ruins, two girls were fighting some demon contractors.

Four demon contractors had ambushed them.

But fight was the wrong word.

It wasn’t a battle—it was a massacre.

The girls weren’t struggling. They were dominating. Cutting through the contractors like air.

Blood stained the ground as screams echoed through the ruins.

The girls moved like predators.

Cold. Precise. Unstoppable.

Amyra wiped her blade clean as the last contractor fell.

Four dead bodies lay behind them now. All Initiate Ranks. They hadn’t even put up a real fight.

“Where to next?” Nyx asked.

“We’ll rejoin Alden, Aziel and Cecilia. Then move towards the centre.”

“Got it, captain.” Nyx replied with a mock salute.

Amyra held back her urge to roll her eyes. After agreeing to be her friend, Nyx had grown even more friendly with her.

Just after their deal to be friends, they were attacked by this group of contractors.

Obviously, as Amyra had expected, they were aiming for her.

But that was the reason on paper.

They weren’t here just to capture her.

No, this was deeper.

Their real goal was something else—it was the students.

Mob students. Low-tier talents.

Sons and daughters of lesser nobles. Easy to overwhelm and easy to slaughter.

More importantly, it’s easy to mourn.

They knew capturing her was nearly impossible. She was provided with many artifacts that could help her escape. She was a valuable pawn for the imperial family after all.

So instead, they went after the weak—and sent an expendable cult to do the job.

The true intent wasn’t the massacre… it was what came after.

Someone would survive.

Someone would “confess” the contractors were after her. Testimonies would be faked. Evidence planted.

They will make it seem like dozens of students died because she was here.

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

The demons wouldn’t even need to twist the story. As that would be done automatically by the emotions of angry parents who will lose their children.

They wanted grief to fester into rage.

So the public would ask:

Why was a princess even at the academy?

Was she worth all this blood?

Wouldn’t their children have survived if she had surrendered herself?

It was foolish. But people with intense emotions were always foolish. She herself was no better.

Amyra could already hear the voices. The whispering of nobles. The commoners shouting. The blame falling on her.

As for why only Amyra was chosen when there was another imperial family member– Lucien – within the academy.

The reason for it was simple–Lucien was worthless. He wasn’t even considered for succession due to his low potential.

But Amyra was different. She was the face of the imperial family. One who was considered the most talented one in centuries.

“Amyra… Are you listening to me?” Nyx’s voice suddenly snapped her out of her thoughts.

“Yes?” Amyra answered.

“Which direction to go?” Nyx asked.

“Don’t you have their location as well? Just check it.” Amyra answered coldly.

“Umm, I’m actually not that good with directions. So it would be better if you led.” Nyx didn’t flinch at Amyra’s cold tone and smiled awkwardly.

Nyx’s sense of direction was really bad.

Even when she had first arrived in this world, she was lost for almost a month before she made her way towards a city.

The most ridiculous thing was that the city was actually just behind the forest.

Amyra didn’t reply and just started walking towards Alden. She wasn’t worried.

She trusted him.

He wouldn’t get hurt, right?

As they moved deeper into the ruins, shadows flickered at the edge of their vision.

Then came the voices.

An ambush.

Three figures emerged from the rubble of a ruined building.

Their robes made it easy to understand their identity as cultists.

Two of them were—Initiate Rank.

But the third radiated power.

Intermideate Apprentice Rank.

Nyx clicked her tongue. “They just don’t quit, do they?”

Amyra didn’t answer. Her eyes locked onto the one in the centre—the Apprentice Rank cultist.

“I’ll take the strong one,” Amyra said coldly. “The other two are yours.”

She had broken through to Apprentice Rank recently. But she has been hiding her breakthrough.

Nyx was still in the Advanced Initiate Rank.

So she decided to handle the Apprentice Rank herself.

The apprentice-rank individual eyed her.

“Princess Amyra, surrender yourself, and we won’t have to be rough.” He spoke with a smirk, eyeing her body.

Amyra didn’t respond.

Lightning crackled.

Purple arcs surged around her as she stepped forward.

The ground beneath her feet burnt with mana.

The cultist she targeted raised a barrier reflexively—but it wouldn’t be enough.

With a swift motion, Amyra raised both hands, a spear of violet lightning forming above her palms.

Arc Blade Spear

She launched it at the enemy.

The Apprentice Rank cultist dodged sideways, barely avoiding a direct hit—but the spear exploded behind him, sending a shockwave.

The attack stirred up the dust which clouded the space as Amyra shot forward, her body glowing with mana.

Lightning crackled around her body.

__

Meanwhile—

Nyx’s figure vanished.

The two Initiate Rank enemies blinked—and she was gone.

Before they could react, a dagger appeared from thin air.

One of them gasped—too late.

The blade slashed across his throat as Nyx appeared behind him, eyes glowing faintly.

“One down.”

The second lunged toward her, with sword raised.

She smirked, then teleported mid-step, disappearing again.

He stumbled—and she reappeared just above him, twisting in the air and throwing one of the daggers downwards.

It pierced his shoulder, forcing him to scream.

Before he could do anything, she teleported again, appearing behind him as she sliced through his neck.

“Two.”

__

Amyra’s battle was more intense as she was fighting purely as a mage.

The Apprentice Rank cultist launched a barrage of crimson fireballs.

Amyra raised a barrier of lightning.

He dashed in with a blade—clearly a hybrid fighter.

But she was ready.

Lightning coiled around her hand like a whip, and she attacked.

The whip caught his blade mid-swing.

She pulled hard, pushing him forward, and drove her knee into his gut.

The cultist coughed blood.

With a roar he activated a burst of demonic energy.

Amyra jumped back.

Fine.

If that’s how he wanted it.

She raised her hand high.

Purple lightning stretched upward, condensing into an orb.

Heaven’s Judgement

Thunder roared as the orb was released downward rapidly.

The cultist instinctively tried to block—but his barrier shattered instantly.

The lightning engulfed him. When the light faded, a charred corpse was lying on the ground.

Amyra lowered her hand, exhaling.

She walked over to Nyx, who was sitting casually on a broken pillar.

“You took your time,” Nyx said, smirking.

“He was stronger than I thought.”

“But not strong enough.”

Amyra could’ve ended the fight within a matter of seconds if she wished.

But she didn’t wish to reveal her powers. Especially when there were few prying eyes observing her every movement.

Amyra looked ahead, toward the centre of the ruins.

They didn’t have time to waste.

“Let’s go,” she said.

This time, Nyx followed without a word.

Their next destination was Alden’s location. Aziel and Cecilia were also close to him.
