Chapter 203: Dangerous Path?
Tsk… annoying bitch.

Alden cursed in his mind.

But he didn’t care more than that to think about her anymore.

He soon reached the principal’s office building.

There were no students to be seen there. Due to a two-week vacation, most of them had gone back to their hometown.

Even if it wasn’t a vacation, only a few students ever went there.

Alden walked through the silent halls.

Rain droplets clung faintly to the windows—leftovers from a downpour.

He reached the grand door.

It opened before he could knock.

Of course it did.

“Alden”, a deep voice called. “Come in.”

Jeremy Voidforge.

Principal of Astria Academy. Archmage. Political manipulator.

And an old freak who wanted to hijack a talented body to prolong his own life.

Alden stepped inside and bowed slightly.

“Greetings, Principal.”

Jeremy sat behind his grand desk.

He wore a sleek black suit. His black hair was neatly combed.

His abyssal black eyes—sharp and knowing—studied Alden carefully.

“Alden Draven. Or should I say… simply Alden now.”

Alden kept his head low. “Yes, sir.”

Jeremy’s gaze lingered on him.

There was a pause.

Then the man spoke again.

“I’ve heard you stayed back in the city of Lustra after the incident at the ruins.”

“Yes, sir. I stayed in the city to take care of some personal matters.”

It was the truth.

“So have you witnessed anything?”

Here comes the question.

Jeremy knew Alden had stayed back and didn’t return with others after the incident at ancient ruins.

He wanted to see if Alden was somehow involved.

Not because he cared or because he wanted evidence.

No.

It was to manipulate Alden if he could find some opening.

But Nyx had promised him—she won’t tell anyone of his involvement.

He felt thankful to her. As it would have caused quite a lot of problems for him otherwise.

So he didn’t need to tell Jeremy the truth.

“No, sir, I exited the city before it happened.” Alden replied smoothly. His expressions were impassive and his heartbeat steady.

Even if Jeremy had any lie detection skills, it wouldn’t work against him with his Voidheart.

“I see,” Jeremy said. “Unfortunate. We were hoping to find more witnesses.”

Alden kept his expression flat. “Apologies, sir. I’m afraid I wasn’t of much use.”

Inside, he was already annoyed.

I know all too well what you want.

Jeremy’s fingers tapped once against the polished surface of his table.

“I’m sure you are already notified,” he said, voice slow, deliberate. “The Draven family has announced your exile.”

Alden’s chest tightened—but only slightly.

He was expecting this.

“Yes, sir.”

“No protests? No emotion?”

“…I understand their decision.”

And by understanding, I mean I hope they all choke on their gold.

“I see,” Jeremy said again.

He sounded… satisfied?

No—calculated.

“It must be difficult, losing your family name. Your position.”

Alden bowed again. “That’s true.”

It was a complete lie.

Who cares about that fucking family anyway?

Jeremy leaned back in his chair.

“But perhaps this misfortune is a sign.”

“…A sign, sir?”

He raised an eyebrow. Alden could already see where this discussion was going.

Jeremy smiled faintly.

“A sign that it’s time to accept my offer.”

Here it is.

The trap.

Alden felt the air turn heavy.

The principal’s voice remained calm and steady.

“I asked you last month to become my disciple.”

“Yes, sir. I remember.”

“And yet you never responded.”

“I apologise. I wasn’t certain… what to say.”

Or rather, I didn’t want to be turned into your personal soul battery.

“You are a gifted student,” Jeremy said. “Rare talent. Good instincts. And now… untethered. You have no family, no obligations. The timing is perfect.”

Perfect—for possession.

Alden didn’t show anything on his face.

Inside, he sighed.

This guy doesn’t even try to hide it anymore.

Jeremy’s eyes glinted.

Subtle—just for a moment.

“I am a space mage,” he said. “I can offer you knowledge most students only dream of. And I treat my disciples like family.”

…So you eat them last?

Alden stayed still for a beat.

Then spoke.

“…I would be honoured, sir.”

Jeremy blinked. “You accept?”

“Yes, sir.”

He bowed deeper.

“I no longer have a family name to carry. If you’ll take me… I’ll do my best.”

And when you try to hijack my body, I’ll make sure to return the favour.

Alden wasn’t being stupid.

He had a plan.

Jeremy smiled wider now. “Excellent.”

He stood again, stepping closer.

“I’ll arrange everything. Your registration as my official disciple. Your schedule will change. Your privileges will be expanded.”

“Understood, sir.”

Jeremy extended a hand.

Alden took it.

Their palms met.

A quiet pulse passed between them.

Jeremy’s magic.

But Alden felt nothing.

Alden didn’t show any expressions outside. Instead, he just smiled inside.

The moment Jeremy tried to mess with his soul…that would be the end of him.

“You’ve made a wise choice,” Jeremy said.

Alden bowed again. “Thank you, Principal.”

“You can call me Master now.” Jeremy gently patted Alden’s shoulder.

Not out of affection.

This damned geezer is still activating the spell.

Alden thought. But outwardly he just said. “Thank you, Master.”

“You may leave.” Jeremy spoke with a gentle smile.

“Yes, sir.”

Alden turned, footsteps quiet as he walked to the door.

Just before he opened it, Jeremy spoke again.

“Oh, and Alden?”

He looked back.

“Yes?”

“…I expect great things from you.”

Sure you do, fucker.

Alden smiled politely.

“I’ll do my best, sir.”

The door closed behind him.

__

The hallway was empty again.

Alden let out a long breath.

…That was creepy.

He started walking.

Rain had stopped. Light fell gently across the stone floor.

I just became the disciple of a space mage and a body thief.

His steps echoed as he made his way back to his dorm.

He glanced down at his hand—the one that shook Jeremy’s.

It felt normal.

But he knew.

He had just stepped onto a very dangerous path.

And strangely… he wasn’t afraid.

He smiled faintly to himself.

Let’s see who outsmarts who first.
